As our recent Tweet has revealed, Andy Carroll’s availability for the Gameweek 23 remains a doubt, with Alan Pardew granting the striker a break in the sun to help him recuperate for the derby match with Sunderland.

Carroll has been sent to Dubai to rest and he is not set to return to a chillier climes until Wednesday with his fitness is set to be assessed the following day. Carroll’s Fantasy owners remain in the dark on his chances of making the Sunderland clash then but Alan Pardew did at least offer us this on the situation…

“It’s an injury that’s difficult to judge because it’s just a small tear in his thigh, but it’s a big muscle. Striking balls is a big problem. He’s walking and getting around feeling no problem but it’s when he starts kicking it will cause him a problem. We won’t know his chances until next Thursday.”

Carroll has already suffered an Fantasy Premier League price drop to 6.4 following his absence over the past two Gameweeks; his ownership has fallen from 54% to 47% in that time. With the Gameweek 22 wildcard now active, his sales seem set to continue and only confirmation of his availability for the clash with the Black Cats will likely stem that tide.

Personally, I’m holding tight. Like many of his Fantasy owners, I would suffer a heavy loss of funds if I sold Carroll on and, given his consistency and Newcastle’s mini-revival under Pardew, he may even present a decent differential on his return. That stance depends greatly on Thursday’s assessment however; if the prognosis suggests a prolonged absence, Carroll will surely suffer accelerated sales as wildcards are put to use before the Gameweek 27 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Good morning.

A question about the WC. Never really thought about it when i used my 1st....since you have unlimited transfer during the GW you use your WC, can you conceivably bring in all guys at the very beginning of the week that could rise twice before the next deadline, drop them when they rise, and pocket the extra cash toward players you actually want and put them in right at the deadline. And if that does work, wouldnt it make sense to do it when there is a longer than usual game week? For example if used between GW 24-25, you have 10 days whereas between 25-26, you only have 4.

You are correct on both counts, but the reality of it is not many will rise twice and you will probably want to keep most of those that do anyway.

Yes is the answer. Plenty of us did it with Walcott early on.

        Wow!! A whole £0.1m.

As has been said before, the only way you can benefit from this tactic is by jumping on a bandwagon for a player you would otherwise not want.

Bandwagons are frequent but not many come along at the same time. So even if you find one with a player who you will immediately ship, you're not going to make a lot.

Overall, it is a minor money making tactic and whether this gets you more points is debatable. In theory, your last 0.1m is getting to the stage of the season where it is practically worthless.

      Yep that's the idea.

Also I had an idea along those lines for some mass collusion - if everyone on here agreed to transfer in a few piece of shit players w/ zero ownership during the wildcard and then sell them all at the same time, everyone would walk away with an easy profit. Not sure how many people would be needed to make the numbers work though, one for TM to work out maybe?

You'd need at least 75,000 people to transfer in to get a 0.2 rise (assuming no one is transferring out at the same time and you'd have to allow for transfers 'lost' between passing the rise threshold and before the first rise has taken place).

Was planning on no changes this week and 2 for next week so I could get Fabs in for Nasri.

However, not sure I'll want Gerrard for GW24 anymore. Thinking of getting N'Zog for Nasri and then Gerrard to Fabs.

Hoping to stay away from wildcard until GW27 so only considering making non points hit changes for the next few weeks.

My defence sucks though (Kolarov, Konchesky are rotation risks/one sacked manager away from being irrelevant in a Liverpool shirt) Cashley is expensive flop but at least is guaranteed playing time until I wildcard. Hangeland has good fixtures and Foley good for 1 pt off the bench.

Maybe I should leave Gerrard and Nasri in for GW24 and get Utd defender instead of Konchesky?

Putting losses in value aside, if wildcarding this week, which players do people think are 'essential'?

Any others than VDV, Nani, Fabs, Adam, Tevez ?

Certainly until GW24, possibly GW25 - L'Pool have Stoke at home. Really depends, how he performs in the doubles. Fortunatly, if you have a nosey at the GW25 fixtures there's not many others strikers out there who have more favourable fixtures for Torres in GW25.

Whats the general consensus on when is best to use Wildcard #2 ?

I just cant see it being of any/much use!

    Team is:

    Foster-Carson
    Kolorov-Rafael-Konchesky-Evatt-Johnson
    Nasri-VD Vaart-Nani-Yaya Toure-Adam
    Tevez-Carroll-Torres

I'm pretty well set up for the next 2 GWs (prob get rid of Konchesky though).

I'll have 3 Man U and 3 Man City players going into GW27 (DGW), so was planning on using it then but would end up flooding team with ARS/BIR/TOT but their fixtures in GW28 suck.

Just a pity that we cant use Wildcard #2 AFTER GW27 lol

Is anyone able to help me solve the puzzle? lol

Options are either use it for GW 24 or for GW 26 (setting up for 27 and leaving 2 frees for 28).

Look at what transfers you would make if you played it for 24. If you can get close enough without playing it, then just hold on til 26.

The longer you can keep it the better obviously unless there is a compelling reason to play it.

Well, Vermaelen is back in a couple of weeks and I doubt there will be any nailing on until then, maybe he's blue tacked on.

          Dear Fantasy Football Gods.
I am having a terrible year… every chance i take fails, every captain i picks fails miserably, every trade i make backfires….
so I think I need an outsiders perspective…

          Foster (Gordon)
          Vidic Kyrgiakos Kolarov (Onuoha, Jara)
          VDV, adam, Fabs, nani, Song
          VP, tevez, varney

Am thinking of losing Kolarov for someone (don’t know who) cheaper and upgrading Song to Nasri. Onuoha -> bardsley would free up some cash but not enough for that move…

Thanks in advance for any help

Can someone look at my team, I've been trying to work out whether I should wild card now or after GW 24 and it's doing my head in.. The team I can make now would still benefit from the 24 double and be set up only really needing 2 changes in time for 26.. But I don't want to be rash with it as this is gonna be the most key choice of the season!

Hey guys, appreciate some thoughts / ideas

            My team as it stands..

            Foster, Jussi
            Rafael, Kolarov, Bardsley (Carr, Foley)
            Nani, Nasri, VDV, Adam, VDV
            Drogba Tevez, Carroll

            thoughts on potential WC team

            Foster Al Habsi
            Coleman, Rafael, Bardsley, Hangeland Foley
            Nani, Nasri, Fabregas, VDV, Adam
            Davies K, Tevez, Carroll

Thinking I could even downgrade Kevin Davies to a Varney or someone under 5 and be able to upgrade a defender..

WC unnecessary imo, you're on really doing 2 major transfers:

              Drogba - cheapie
              Barton - Fabs

and some tinkering in your defence.

Drogba is worth keeping for next week, and you already have Nasri for Arsenal cover so Fabs isn't a necessity yet.

Just do a couple of minor changes and sit tight on the WC, there could be some major changes needed in the next few weeks.

And in case anyone cares my WC team would be..

            Kingson, Foster

            Djourou, Bardsley, Kolarov, Rafael, Coleman

Fabregas, Van der Vaart, Nani, Depmsey, Adam

            Berbatov, Tevez, Campbell

And the two transfers between 24 and 26 I had in mind would be Dempsey - Barton
            Campbell - RVP

            This is my sorry defence:

              Reina/Al habsi

              gerrard, vdv, nani, adam, brunt

              drogba, tevez, carroll

spent the last few gameweeks working towards l'pools/b'pools doubles. So far not that impressive. was going to spend the next two weeks bringing in rafael and berba or rooney for their upcoming double. right now im thinking of doing kolarov to rafael next week, cause this week city has wolves while united go to spurs. so do i do drogba for rooney or berbs (which one?) this week or do both moves next week? the way things are going a united striker at tottenham seems a better bet than drogba home to blackburn. What you lot think

Drogba at home against us is going to be big. Liverpool are terrible, and if Chelsea play even just a bit better, we'll let in 3.

I'm basically pretty happy with my team now without having wildcarded, i could save it til week 27 and do all my swaps then but i could do it all with freebies before then if i leave it to that point.

Makes me think i might as well just use it this week and get the transfers out the way sooner!

              Team is

              Foster Jaask
              Rafael Kolarov Jara Simpson GJ
              Fabs Nasri Nani VDV Adam
              Tevez Carroll DJ

              WC team will be
              Foster Begovic
              Rafael Kolarov Djourou Coleman Dann
              Fabs Nasri Nani VDV Adam
              Tevez Carroll Odemwingie

But even then, i'm only doing 3 swaps because i wouldn't want to get Dann or Odemwingie in for GJ and DJ yet.

So what to do?! Guess i might as well wait for week 27 so i can take care of any injuries or anything that might have come up, or make the most of transfers.

i see there is some talk of who to play on defence.

with kolarov, konchesky, coleman, bardsley, simpson, am i wise in sitting konch/simpson?

i also have reina home to everton or al habsi home to fulham.

im thinking coleman over konch and play reina in case a CS does occur, hedging my bets which is the best thing i can say about my pool players.
