The ScoutCast – Episode Ninety Three – Wrapped Up

Possibly the most un-Christmas-like Christmas Podcast we’ve ever recorded, thanks mainly to Granville being banned from editing in the entire MP3 of Dean Martin’s “Let it Snow” but also because neither of us had time to sort our pressies. To be fair, I’m surprised that Granville felt an ounce Christmas spirit after Santi’s showing at Reading opened up a 40-point “chasm” in our min-league. Do I have it all wrapped up already?

To his credit, my co-host takes it all on his bearded chin, joining me to discuss the Felliani fallout, its impact on the transfer trends in “all aboard”, a preview of the weekend fixtures and provided his assistance in the management of the ScoutCast team: an outfit which plundered no less than 80 points thanks to Santi’s haul and Reading’s bulging net.

Unitie the bow and rip this one open via this link, or stream the merriment via the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would anyone consider Moses for a cheap route into the Chelsea side?

Apart from the demolition at City which was a tight game until the wrongly awarded penalty they were unlucky not to get something against United, 0-0 v Arsenal, won at Anfield and they are improving all the time, growing in confidence and the players are becoming more familiar with each other. Lambert's teams play with no fear either so they won't be daunted by the task.

2 fair points above, i'm a villa fan and agree they're improving. just when they're really on the back foot they can bring it upon themselves a bit and you just get the feeling they'll concede.

    To sum up ....

Mata played 90 minutes tonight, which we didn't want, but surely he will start at the weekend? But then Hazard looks more of a guaranteed starter, and looked dangerous tonight.

Although was the real winner of the 'who to put in my team' race tonight actually Gareth Bale?

      All good points, wise sirs.

I agree, Bale is just back from injury and this is the kind of game that Spurs might even lose 1-0.

Between Hazard and Mata, Mata is the one that you want to keep in your side for at least the forseeable future.

Agree, think I'll get Bale in. Chelsea travelled 11k miles in the last few days, Mata and Haz could be tired/rotated.

Silva returns always seem to be modest.

Already have Caz, although if I didn't i'd probably be tempted more by Walcott - can't believe Caz will ever repeat what he did against Reading.

Smashing ... can't wait to give this a listen tonight. Thanks, Mark and Granny.

And a question, as an ardent American fan of footy:

How in the world can clubs/the FA be considering standing terrace sections and/or netting/fencing after the confirmation - finally - of the Hillsborough investigation? It just seems surreal and ironic to me, in a devastating sort of way ...

A 'real' question, no trolling here.

Yeah I don't think standing sections have any place in the English game given the history. Yeah it might work in the Bundesliga but that doesn't mean it needs introduced to the PL. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

There is standing in the English game, just not in the Premier League. They are talking about standing rails anyway, in small sections of the ground, not the open terraces of yesteryear. I'm totally in favour of it, give people the choice.

It doesn't sound that bad an idea. I would worry about heated games like we saw between United and City or United v Liverpool. Angry hyped up fans without a designated seat could spill into trouble. It's only a good idea if everyone there acts accordingly otherwise it can become very unpredictable.

And the lower leagues don't deal with the same volume of crowds at their games and most of the time much less animosity between fans.

Too early to start planning for the Jan WC? Makes sense to load up on ARS and WHU in preparation for the DGW, although the timing of when to play it is a bit tricky given they both have good fixtures before and after the DGW.

        What's the verdict?
