Our weekly look at the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game is rolled out once again, as we analyse the leading lights in the Scout League and cast an eye over the fluctuating transfer market, as winter wildcards continue to be fluttered:

Scout League Standings

T.I. remains at the top of the Scout League after registering 86 points in the Gameweek gone by. He opted for four players for the double – captain Theo Walcott, Santi Cazorla, Joe Cole and Guy Demel returned 60 points between then, while Robin Van Persie was joined by Everton pair Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines in picking up the points. T.I. is now the world number one and sits on 1522 points overall, with a wildcard still in his locker.

A non-mover in second spot is Kelvin Travers. He opted for five double Gameweek players – captain Walcott was joined by Cazorla, Thomas Vermaelen, Kevin Nolan and Jussi Jaaskelainen, while Van Persie, Michu, Juan Mata, Ben Davies and Luke Shaw also chipped in with six or more points apiece. Thanks to a 99 point haul in Gameweek 23, he sits on 1521 points – a single point behind T.I. and in second place in the overall standings; he also still has a wildcard left to play.

Our top two have established a gap over the chasing pack, with Eddie McGeever the best of the rest in third. He picked up 92 points last time round, though opted for only four double Gameweek options – captain Walcott, Mark Nobel, Kieran Gibbs and Jaaskelainen – while Van Persie was joined by Luis Suarez and Carlos Tevez up top. Elsewhere, Michu, Mata and Nathaniel Clyne all produced the goods. He sits in 14th spot overall on 1496 points and is another with a wildcard still up his sleeve.

Former world number one Iyad Zahlan holds steady in fourth spot after an 89 point haul in the Gameweek gone by. Having played his wildcard, he handed four double Gameweek players a chance to impress – captain Walcott, Wojciech Szczesny, Bacary Sagna and Demel. Van Persie, Suarez, Shaw, Fellaini, Michu and Mata also chipped in as he moved to 1495 points – 15th in the overall standings.

Dan Jones completes our top five thanks to a 97 point return over the double. He drafted in five players from Arsenal and West Ham and, while Szczesny, Demel and Joey O’Brien failed to prosper at the back, captain Walcott and Lukas Podolski produced 53 points between them. Van Persie, Fellaini, Michu, Leighton Baines and Frank Lampard all helped Dan move to 1495 points – 17th in the world standing. He’s the fourth of our featured players with a wildcard still to play.

The performances of our top five keeps Fantasy Football Scout at the top of the Best Leagues, with a 4.8 point gap over our nearest rivals – the FFS Members league. TI leads the way there, with world number three Julian Zipparo sitting in second spot.

For the contributors, Mark remains on top thanks to a 108 point return in Gameweek 23. With the armband on Walcott, he also collected hauls from Podolski, Baines, Van Persie, Mata, Fellaini, Michu, Davies and Edin Dzeko and sits in 897th spot in the overall standings.

Market Trends

Swansea’s Ben Davies has proven the most popular player this week so far. Over 50,000 Fantasy managers have snapped up the cut-price left-back after his 10 point haul against Stoke last weekend – elsewhere at the back, Joey O’Brien’s return from injury has earned him 31,000 new owners, while the budget appeal of Nathaniel Clyne has persuaded 22,000 to jump on board the bandwagon. Unfortunately for Ryan Nelsen’s 15,000+ new owners, he plays his final match for QPR on Tuesday against City before leaving to take over at MLS club Toronto FC.

In midfield, there’s a bit of variety in this week’s transfers in, with wildcards earning many plenty new owners. Juan Mata and Theo Walcott are the top two, with 40,000 and 38,000 respectively, though Marouane Fellaini and Michu continue to pick up plenty investment, with a combined new ownership of 57,000 to date. Steven Gerrard, David Silva and Gareth Bale have all appealed in the premium bracket, while Jonathan de Guzman’s 15 points against Stoke last Saturday have earned him almost 30,000 new owners.

Up top, the mid-price pair of Steven Fletcher and Daniel Sturridge lead the way with over 41,000 and 28,000 transfers in respectively. The top two scoring forwards, Luis Suarez and Robin Van Persie, continue to increase in ownership –both have made their way into over 20,000 new squads, as has Loic Remy, though the latter is a doubt for QPR’s FA Cup clash with MK Dons this weekend, with Harry Redknapp revealing he “is struggling” to make it.

For transfers out, it’s no surprise to see Eden Hazard (59,000) as the main man after his dismissal at Swansea in midweek – the Chelsea midfielder is set to serve a three-match ban, though the FA could increase this upon revision. Demba Ba is next in line, with over 52,000 Fantasy managers already frustrated by Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy, while over 37,000 have quickly moved on Santi Cazorla following Arsenal’s double. Stoke’s poor defensive form has persuaded 23,000 to part company with Ryan Shawcross, while top scoring keeper Asmir Begovic (13,000) has also been shipped on, though the Potters have some decent home games on the horizon.

With the double now done, West Ham pair Jussi Jaaskelainen and Kevin Nolan have been transferred out by a combined 42,000 after recent poor form, while misfiring forwards such as Jermain Defoe (30,000), Dimitar Berbatov (25,000) and Fernando Torres (18,000) have also been sacrificed as forward lines are reshaped.

OK, so Marv could lose his place when Barfa back plus Newcastle signing another midfielder.

Is Guthrie the only real downgrade option?

Who do you think is the best option for a 5th mid:-

    A) Noble(5.0m) On penalties and free-kicks, decent fixtures
    B) Puncheon(5.0m) Bad fixtures, new manager but can be consistent
    C) Gardner(4.9m) On penalties and free-kicks, decent fixtures, differential
    D) Maloney(4.8m) On penalties and free-kicks, decent fixtures, differential

Im on maloney ATM. What do u guys think? Any other suggestions are welcome. Thanks 😀

For those interested in double rises this GW, I reckon Davies will rise again, making it 4.2 to 4.4.

He could be the only one though, however there could be some more nearer deadline.

Not only that, but Assou-Ekotto, who a) is just back from injury, b) isn't guaranteed (although should) to even get his place back, AND C) GIVES HIM TRIPLE SPURS!!!!!

Triple United, or triple City, or at a push triple Chelsea, and even triple anyone is skeptical this year.

That just looks mental to me.

So as alluded (word of the week!!) to on the previous page, I am entertaining the thought of upgrading (changing maybe/probably to some) my p5 to include Silva or Gerrard, and it will be for Michu. His goals have dried up, and Swansea have a couple of away matches that I am not overly keen on for attacking returns.

Silva/Gerrard and Fletcher/Berbatov, for Michu and Ba sound like sound business fellas???

    Silva Bale Mata Walcott Fellaini
    RVP Fletcher

This is what im thinking, and it looks quite arousing to me.

The only problem is Michu is more of a threat than Silva and Gerrard (regardless of Silvas recent brace and form, and gerrards returns) and I missed enough of Michus points at the start of the season to really even be entertaining the thought of taking him out. The only other option is to do Michu to De Guzman and then get Aguero in, and still have the 3-5-2, but I don't really like that idea all that much to be honest.

My problem with Michu is his high ownership if he gets a big haul one week, u might be looking at a red arrow. I ditched him around oct/nov as fixtures looked tough and he went on a run and basically burnt me. I advise to keep and ship some1 else.

Is there a such word for when two words are exact synonyms.

    Aka I want to ask the profound question;

Are sustainability and structural optimisation synonyms?

Its just it doesnt feel right. I want to pass this essay on the question alone so need to get it perfect.

Sustainability is about long term effects requiring resources within your means. It should not affect future generations. Structural optimisation is about minimising materials and costs etc in the present.

Surely structural optimisation is getting the most out of the structure in terms of facilities created and resources improved, where as sustainability is about maintaining a certain standard throughout time?

I think the terms are getting so blended these days by designers that its harder to give such black and white definitions to them.

Design for deconstruction is no longer a purely sustainability endeavour, because of advances in quality of prefabrication, it can be used to reduce costs in construction to.

Ginkapo. There is no such thing as an exact synonym, BECAUSE the reference of two different words will NEVER be the same, no matter how similar the meaning.
      The usual example is settee/sofa.
However, here is a diagram which may help the formulation of your thoughts:

      http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/File:Homograph_homophone_venn_diagram.svg

As to your two technical terms, I am grinding away. Back shortly.

Fellaini or Cazorla over the next 4-6 weeks? I'm leaning towards keeping Santi atm

Just took a look at a few defensive rotations in the ticker (finally got round to using the drag-and-drop function).

Some of the budget ones I'm looking at...

    STO/QPR
WIG NOR RDG ful WHM SUN WBA ful AVL/WIG eve STO NOR/rdg sun NEW sot

    NEW/SUN
SWA rdg ARS SOT FUL STO NOR MUN FUL SUN EVE avl STO SOT ARS

    AVL/RDG
NEW SUN WHM WIG MCI AVL/rdg QPR LIV SOT FUL nor SUN/QPR nor/ful CHE wig/whm

    STO/SOT
WIG wig RDG ful/new WHM/QPR new/nor WBA CHE AVL WHM qpr NOR/WBA sun sun STO

    NOR/AVL
NEW qpr WHM/FUL EVE MCI rdg/SOT QPR wig SWA FUL RDG SUN AVL WBA wig

Also one of interest - Swansea. Now Swansea keep more clean sheets away than at home because they shut up shop, and they're good at it, keeping cleanies at Arsenal, Everton, QPR and Reading and of course Chelsea in the Carling Cup. So you can take advantage of that and play your Swansea defender away. Most of the away fixtures in these two rotations are Swansea away.

    SWA/SOT
sun whm/wig QPR liv/new QPR wba LIV TOT nor WHM SOT WBA MCI mun STO/FUL

    SWA/SUN
SWA whm/rdg QPR wba/liv FUL/NEW qpr/wba NOR TOT nor wig SOT avl STO SOT FUL

(PS as you might know NEW/SUN is perfect home and away rotation because they're very nearby so policing and transport means only one can play at home each week.)

Frankly playing him every game might not be a bad option.

I could go one big defender (Zabaleta or Evans), Davies, and three rotating cheapies. Then go wild up front.

I think it's just that the cup doesn't feel important anymore. People don't take it seriously enough, don't play completely full strength teams. It's a shame. Obviously like other cups which people still take seriously such as the European Cup and World Cup...

Considering downgrading Michu to Hernandez and rotating him with Taarabt. Apart from GW27 they rotate well and it would free up another 2.1m
