As we approach today’s 4 o’clock kick-off, our bookmaker friends at Paddy Power have sent over their own preview of a match laced with hype and anticipation, as Fernando Torres steps up to make his Chelsea debut against his former club.

Paddy Says…

Is it irony or tragedy that Liverpool should face their former hero so soon? Whatever the events that unfold during the game, there is going to be plenty of drama in the build-up thanks to the hullabaloo surrounding the recent transfers. The arrival of Luis Suarez for a pitiful £23 million was almost overlooked following Fernando Torres’ record move, but it has been the feisty Uruguayan who has been first out of the blocks with a debut goal in midweek win over Stoke.

While Torres will naturally be the focus of attention leading up to kick-off, theres a reason why he’s the joint favourite to score first with Didier Drogba at 4/1. The Ivorian has had the better of the Liverpool backline on many an occasion and it wouldn’t be entirely unexpected if Drogba were to steal centre stage.

After opening his account, Suarez shouldn’t be overlooked. Some may question the validity of his goalscoring record in the Dutch league but it can’t be totally dismissed. He’s shown at club and international level that he isn’t just a goalscorer; on top of his impressive scoring rate, he’s also proved to be an effective provider of opportunities too. If he doesn’t score first at 7/1 or anytime at 23/10, his workrate and creativity could still make him a key figure for the visitors.

Raul Meireles has been Liverpool’s star performer of late however, and has found a useful scoring touch with three in four games. He’s nicely priced at 16/1 to score first and 6/1 to score anytime. Team-mate Steven Gerrard is at 11/1 to score first, while Frank Lampard, back on the scoresheet at Sunderland in midweek, is at 6/1. Set-pieces or spot-kicks could be decisive today, so both offer decent value in a game which could well be decided by brilliance or controversy. You can get 3/1 on a penalty being scored.

With pace up front and quality goalscorers in midfield on show, both defences could be put under real pressure and a big yellow card count and perhaps the odd red, wouldn’t be a massive surprise. Clean sheets look unlikely and, although Liverpool have kept three consecutive shut-outs, they are 4/1 to extend that run.

Overall this is a tricky one to call, but at 4/1 Liverpool look the better value of two teams which are more evenly matched than perhaps odds suggest.

This Week’s Money Back Special

If the last goal in the match is scored by Torres for either side, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st /last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on the match.

Free £20 Bet for All New Accounts

If you’re new to this betting lark and new to Paddy Power then you can take up any of these odds and offers and get yourself a bonus. You can sign up via this site and get a free £20 when you register and bet a tenner.

Finally of course, we should state that all these offers are only available to those aged 18 and over and are subject to Paddy Power’s terms and conditions.

of course it was wrong, if he wanted to get trophies he should've joined Barca. He'll go down as a legend only at Atletico now, unfortunate for him. If he gets injured at Chelsea we all know the club won't have patience with him like he had at Liverpool.

Something that I've been thinking about - Blackpool really are in free fall. Cannot defend to save their lives. Their last 5 games they have conceded 16 goals (3,2,3,3,5). Except for the Sunderland game where Richardson struck both goals, the opposition's main striker has had a field day -

    Odemwingie (2 goals)
    Berbatov (2 goals)
    Obinna (2 goals + 1 assist)
    Saha (4 goals)

Personally, while I keep Adam in my team, I'm going to look at their fixtures are try to have the key strikers they are going up against. If Defoe wasn't in such terrible form, I would be seriously considering him as captain for this GW with a double including a game vs Blackpool.

    Opinions?

yeah but the likes of fabregas and rvp and Walcott etc need to be rested as their injury prone, only player I'd consider would be vdv but he's also injury prone, for anyone chasing dadoe could be a sneaky choice can see him banging in a few vs blackpool, forgot that spurs have Cl 🙂

And do you have big enough balls?.... I'm curious 😉

I can see city manu/manc finishing 0-0 so you should be alright..

3 DGW players over Nani isn't that hard a decision with a derby game.

Yup, it is tough.. the Manc derby is likely to be tight imo too, maybe 0-0 or 1-1.. but I don't think you can afford to bench either Berb or Tevez on the chance they grab a goal or two.

And Demps might score, but 3 pts is very probable v Chelsea.

Got to play one of Nani, Tevez, Kolarov next week. I'm thinking Kolarov in a 4-4-2

    What do you reckon?

      ...Ya' what?
Manchester United are the second highest scorer's in the league and Manchester City don't keep cleansheets away from home, especially when Lolarov plays.

Yeah, he's had two weeks of good attacking points. I doubt he'll do it when he's got Evra, Rafeal and Vidic to content with, let-alone Man U's front line.

Tevez or Nani much much better options. Personally: Tevez as no Ferdinand.

Man City always play for 0-0s against the big teams though.

I probably would have played Ferdinand if he was fit. Not so sure what to do with Kolarov, Tevez and Nani now. Got Djourou and VDV to deal with too.
