Injuries

It has been confirmed that Robin Van Persie will be sidelined for Arsenal’s clash with Stoke City on Wednesday with a hamstring injury. The news comes as a huge blow to Arsenal but also to the thousands of Fantasy Managers who opted to captain Van Persie for this current double gameweek; his returns from the second fixture are now lost.

Having already fetched an impressive 13 Fantasy Premier League points in gameweek 27 against Wolves (or 26 points for those who captained the player), Van Persie owners were hoping for a high-scoring conclusion in an attractive fixture at home to Tony Pulis’ men. Scoring a remarkable 10 goals in his last 7 Premier League outings, on top of 15 bonus points and a couple of assists, the Dutch striker has proven himself as a crucial and consistent asset for FPL teams far and wide.

With Arsenal drawing a blank fixture in gameweek 28, Fantasy Managers will have already been plotting to either sell or, more likely, bench Van Persie this weekend. By the time Gameweek 29 comes around, on March 5, Van Persie should have recovered with Wenger predicting a return for Sunday’s Carling Cup Final with Birmingham. Today’s setback shouldn’t ruin long-term plans, but pessimists out there will be more than aware of Van Persie’s previous injuries problems and praying for no further setbacks. With a Champions League second leg with Barcelona beckoning shortly after the gameweek 29 trip to Sunderland, there is also the risk that Wenger may well rest his star striker should he have further fears over the fragility of his hamstring. That will likely depend on the success of his replacements tomorrow night.

In Van Persie’s absence, Marouane Chamakh, who has been used sparingly since the turn of the year and played just 24 minutes of Premier League football, will likely come in and take over the attacking reins. Although lacking in playing time as of late, the Moroccan demonstrated his abilities earlier in the season by scoring 7 goals and returning 5 assists. Nicklas Bendtner will also stake a claim however – he has had his moments coming from the bench in recent matches and will be eager to take his opportunity having been overshadowed by the form of Van Persie.

Cesc Fabregas looks set to take over spot-kick and set-piece duties with Van Persie sidelined. Those Fantasy Managers who captained the Arsenal skipper going into gameweek 27 will surely be feeling far more secure about their decision in the light of this news.

Arsene Wenger has also confirmed that another of his in-form players, Laurent Koscielny, will be missing on Wednesday night. Sebastien Squillaci is now likely to form a central defensive partnership with Johan Djourou for the game.

johnfinlay John swears he'll deliver unbiased Fantasy Premier League tips and news...until Leeds get promoted.

    (stuck on last page)
Hi all, been haven’t been on for a while with no games at the weekend.

Others who have ashley young, he has v. good fixtures, but for the last three weeks villa have scored 4 goals but wasn’t involved in any, just got yellows in 2 games.
Are people keeping faith in him? He is a differential over my rival who is 20 points ahead of me, the thing is will he get back on form. I feel the week I transfer him out he’s gonna score.
Was planning on getting cahill in for fabregas but now that cahill is doubtful I’m not sure..

    Opinions?

I'm keeping with Ashley Young, he plays in a very favourable position. Took the last penalty when both he and Bent were on the pitch and takes good free kicks.

The injury news recently has been killing me. Was planning on getting Saha and Cahill in for this week but that looks like it is off now. Now RVP, if Clichy is rested that would some it up.

Although last time I captained RVP against Stoke he got -4 so at least I was saved that humilation again.

Also it would be great if a suspension tightrope was set up again, it was really useful last year and if someone could take the time to make another one it would be most appreciated.

But if Anderson only went for 7 more than Broad then he wasn't exactly very impressive either then was he?

Don't worry, SCJ took a couple of token wickets at the end, as per usual....

Anderson was absolutely horrendous at the death, as he usually is. He should bowl all of his overs before the 40th overs.

That 'wicket' Broad took that didn't stand because we had too many fielders out of the circle was an absolute embarrassment. You don't even see that sort of stuff in schoolboy cricket. It was also an absolute disaster for someone with Broad (c). 🙁

                    Wrong, wrong and wrong......

He forfeited a wicket by idiotically not coming inside the circle as broad bowled, swann bowled infinitely better than him, Trott and Bopara both batted better than him.

Well someone with Biatsen captain was very unimpressed when he decided to stop scoring after he reached 35 then around 20 balls later got out.

Swann proved to be the right pick though.

I think everyone knew that spinners would be the best bowlers on these pitches, I just didn't appreciate how important a good economy rate can be...

Mitchell could well be the most important player in the whole tournament. Tait - and to a lesser extent Lee - will inevitably leak runs, especially against the better teams, so the Aussies will desperately need Mitch to keep it tight, or else their bowling attack will fall apart.

He bowled seriously well against Zimbabwe, so the signs are positive. He barely bowled a bad ball in 9 overs.

i still think it's about right. vdv's loss is more than made up for by modric's return. spurs have a weird knack of winning by the odd goal or at least not losing. last game against sunderland being a classic example

I might actually go for Shoaib instead of Ajmal... He could absolutely decimate the Kenyans.

But I don't really want to be stuck with him for the Sri Lanka game in a few days time... Against a serious side he could go for a lot of runs. I'd much rather have Ajmal for that game. Hmmmmmm....

Evening all. With all this depressing injury news :), I'm trying to come up with my plan for the next couple of weeks. What do you reckon on bringing Meireles in for next week only?

I'm not sold on either Cahill or Arteta despite their double and fixtures. That would mean doing

Fab + Odem to Meireles + Rooney for GW28
    then Meireles to Nasri GW29

    any thoughts?

merieles has a tough game against man united to come, and i don't think he can keep up this scoring run of his.

If you want someone cheaper as a differential, may i suggest fellaini of everton or even giggs.

I have Meireles already and he's not let me down so far. He actually may turn out to be a good differential, specially with all the top guns getting crocked all over the place.

I'm going for Odem to Rooney too this week. Both solid moves on paper. Hopefully they'll work out in real life too for both of our sakes.

Worry about GW29 next week as too many possible injuries could still happen to change your priorities.

cheers Nomar, all my plans are going to be last minute changes with all these injuries around but I think I'm going to go with Meireles and Rooney (at the mo).

Demi, it's only this week I was asking about which is WHM, LIV havent the best of fixtures coming up I agree.

If you read about half way down page 1 where DBRonaldo and I (and Quaid) are having a little tete a tete regarding Colonel Gaddafi and the problems in Libya. The arguement seems to escalate between Quaid and DBR (gets a bit personal) then DBR goes into great length about the advantages of having a psychology degree........but what really makes me laugh is the post following this highbrow argument which is 'soop' saying "I am eating my yoghurt with an upside down spoon"......ha ha ha ha....I laughed and laughed!!!!!

Not from what I read. I could be wrong, but I think he basically just questioned Dbronaldo's fitness to comment and the appropriateness of this forum to discuss the matter.
Not that I'm taking the side of a Mackem or anything, just there appears to be a misconception that says he supports Gaddafi.

Seriously what is it lately with people making up fake quotes for me.

I joked about reading psychology books. Joked that it was useful. Hence the wink.

Still though Alsybach you have yet to add anything of your own or respond to what i asked you (claiming i was a know it all). Still though if you dont want me to have an opinion i can see why you would take such offence at someone questioning Gaddaffi.

Hmmmm cheers, might take a punt on him.
Was going to go for Gul but rethought it now as I want to keep my Aussies with them playing in a couple of days.

He is a very good prospect and will do well tomorrow. Certain to open the innings alongwith either Hafeez or Akmal.

i was looking at him as a cheapy but he's place in the team seems unpredictable. the opening partenership is just as likely to be akmal and hafeez

    It's kind of a win/lose for me.

I'm really glad I "C" Fabs now as I was kind of choked about not "C" RVP but now with RVP out, I also lose out on one of my main players getting me anything, kind of a give and take I guess.

Top 5 average. Chances are looking good to getting two Top 10 players to enter before the deadline. Would boast the average a fair bit.
