Friendlies Round-Up – Saturday

Olivier Giroud grabs his seventh goal of the summer as Arsenal battle to a draw at home to Napoli. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson are the unlikely heroes as Liverpool beat Olympiakos in Steven Gerrard’s Anfield testimonial, Kim Bo-Kyung scores for the third game in succession for Cardiff, Nikica Jelavic climbs off the bench to notch again for Everton, while Dwight Gayle is amongst the goals as Palace cruise past Waterford.

Liverpool 2 Olympiakos 0
It’s five wins and five clean sheets in five now for the Reds as Brendan Rodgers’ side registered another victory in Steven Gerrard’s testimonial yesterday afternoon. Kolo Toure once again got the nod ahead of Martin Skrtel as Daniel Agger’s central defensive partner, while Gerrard was fielded as the most advanced central midfielder in a 4-3-3 formation which saw Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling handed the flank roles on either side of Iago Aspas. The Spaniard maintained his impressive pre-season form by supplying the assist for Joe Allen’s opener before Jordan Henderson fired home the second after being teed up by Sterling.

Luis Suarez climbed off the bench just after the hour mark and, despite his ongoing transfer wrangles, was afforded a warm reception by the home support – speaking to the press after the match, Rodgers admitted he hopes the fans reaction will convince the Uruguayan to turn his back on a potential move to Arsenal:

“It was probably not the reception that you guys thought! They love their own, and Luis is still very much part of the group and the team. He was probably humbled by the reception. There might have been that wee bit of trepidation about the reaction he might have got, but people who’ve been at this club a lot longer than me and know the Liverpool way, they know the fans always respect their people and respect their own. Today was another message from them that they love him here. We all love him, as a manager, players and supporters. We’re trying to keep our best players.”

Cardiff 1 Chievo 0
The Bluebirds registered their first win in three attempts with a narrow triumph over their Serie A opponents yesterday. Malky Mackay started with new boy John Brayford at right-back and partnered Mark Hudson with Ben Turner at centre-half before the former made way for record signing Steven Caulker on the hour mark. Yet again, Kim Bo-Kyung was a class apart and continued his strong pre-season form with the only goal of the game – he has now played a part in all four of Cardiff’s strikes (three goals and an assist) over the last three friendlies. Unsurprisingly, the South Korean’s scoring exploits were the main subject of his manager’s post-match praise:

“It’s something we wanted to add in terms of the all-round make-up of his game. Today he (Kim) showed some sublime touches, but again got on the score-sheet which is important for him in his slightly different role. He’s only young, you’ve got to remember that – and coming in from a completely different culture and language, his English has improved massively over the year. As the season went on you saw how he got to grips with the Championship, understood the type of football that it was and I think we saw the improvement as the year went on. I knew about the raw talent the boy had, it was about giving him time to settle.”

Mackay also took time to roll out an injury update after a couple of the Bluebirds’ main men were omitted from the squad for yesterday’s showdown:

“Jordon (Mutch) had a problem with his groin in the warm up with fifteen minutes to go, it’s not too serious. Joe Mason rolled his ankle during the week against Port Talbot and Craig Bellamy was ill overnight so again, short term things. (Andreas)Cornelius was tackled a couple of days ago in training and he’s got a sore ankle, we’re working on it at the moment. We will scan Jordon today and see where he is.”

Arsenal 2 Napoli 2
With a pair of weekend Emirates Cup matches on the agenda, Arsene Wenger made five changes from the side that started against Urawa Reds last Friday. Carl Jenkinson and Kieran Gibbs returned in the full-back roles alongside Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny in defence, while Jack Wilshere partnered Aaron Ramsey in the double-pivot, with Tomas Rosicky tucking in behind Olivier Giroud. Two goals down at the break (with Lukas Podolski missing a first-half spot-kick) the hosts rallied after the likes of Theo Walcott, Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were introduced and Giroud sparked a late comeback with an overhead bicycle kick – his seventh pre-season strike – before Koscielny notched the equaliser after Pepe Reina parried a Mertesacker header into his path.

Celta Vigo 0 Southampton 0 (4-1 on pens)
The Saints penultimate game of the summer ended in a spot-kick defeat after the match finished goalless in normal time. With Nathaniel Clyne still injured Mauricio Pochettino rolled out for many what could be his starting outfield 10 for the Gameweek 1 trip to West Brom, with Callum Chambers fielded at right-back, Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin in the double-pivot and an attacking midfield trio of Jay Rodriguez, Gaston Ramirez and Adam Lallana behind lone forward Rickie Lambert. Pochettino did, however, start with Kelvin Davis in goal before he was replaced by Artur Boruc in one of nine half-time changes, with Chambers the only player to last the full 90 minutes after Luke Shaw was replaced by Danny Fox late on.

Prior to the game, reports in the local press had suggested both Ramirez and Maya Yoshida may be struggling for fitness ahead of the season opener, though. Yesterday was their first game time of the summer after an extended break due to Confederations Cup duties and with the duo going head to head on the international stage in Japan just three days before the Hawthorns trip, Pochettino will be keenly monitoring their levels, given they were both afforded just 45 minutes apiece yesterday.

Monaco 5 Tottenham 2
The visitors were made to pay the price for fielding an under-strength backline in France yesterday evening. In a week that saw Steven Caulker sold to Cardiff, Andre Villas-Boas’ decision to test Jake Livermore and Ezekiel Fryers in the heart of his defence backfired as Radamel Falcao and co ran riot. The Spurs boss rolled out a 4-2-3-1 formation and intriguingly handed new boy Nacer Chadli the role in “the hole”, with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Aaron Lennon taking the flank positions behind Jermain Defoe – the latter was replaced by Harry Kane after just eight minutes, having limped off with a “tight hamstring” according to Villas-Boas. The Spurs boss handed many fringe players a chance to impress from the bench and made seven alterations in total, with both Kane and fellow-sub Andros Townsend staking a claim with a goal apiece.

Waterford United 0 Crystal Palace 4
Ian Holloway’s side grabbed their third win in four pre-season matches yesterday evening. Kagisho Dikgacoi played his first match since picking up an injury in the Championship Play-Off final back in May, Danny Gabbidon returned to central defence, while summer signings Stephen Dobbie, Jerome Thomas and Dwight Gayle also featured. Dobbie produced a goal and assist for the Eagles, teeing up Gayle to notch the visitors’ second after opening the scoring himself, and in spite of a raft of second-half changes, Holloway’s side were able to extend their lad thanks to further strikes from Ibra Sekajja and Osman Sow.

Everton 1 Real Madrid 2
Having rolled out a 3-4-3 against Juventus in midweek, Roberto Martinez lined his side up in a 4-5-1 formation for the clash against Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the earlier hours of this morning. Johnny Heitinga returned to the starting XI but was moved into central midfield alongside Marouane Fellaini and Leon Osman, while Kevin Mirallas and Steven Naismith took the flank roles as Arouna Kone led the line in only his second start since arriving from Wigan. Nikica Jelavic – one of six second-half changes by the Toffees boss – once again impressed off the bench, notching his side’s only goal courtesy of a Naismith assist but despite a period of pressure where they had a goal disallowed and hit the post, the Merseysiders were unable to find the net again.

Speaking to the club’s official website after the match, Naismith praised the display of former Glasgow Rangers team mate Jelavic and backed the Croatian to come good after he also bagged a brace in last weekend’s win over Blackburn:

“Throughout pre-season he has looked sharp and he has got a bit of confidence back. I think last season he lost a bit of that through not playing every week. In training he has looked very sharp as well and maybe the signings that came in have put a bit of pressure on him and he wants to be starting for Everton.”

With Lukaku and Dzeko you have a serious risk of both not starting and that is not a bench that you want 4 of Quinn/Thomas/Parr/Chester/Brayford all starting!!!!!

It you are taking a punt up top I think you have to lose one mid and upgrade two of those 5 week players.

Assuming Bale is leaving for Real Madrid, is a no-RVP team really sensible? The reason is I ask this is due to the lack of captaincy options that are actually available right now. Assuming no Bale and no RVP, who are the captain options? Hazard for GW1 and Walcott seem to stick out but with Sturridge/Aguero having had no pre-season, Silva being a consistent but not explosive candidate, Coutinho still being a bit of an unknown entity and not really an option for GW2 and GW3, who exactly is left?

I believe that GW1 will probably see RVP as most captained despite everyone on here and those who understand the game a bit more will have Hazard. Following that though, who exactly sticks out for a GW2 option?
With no Bale, would people actually a) have Soldado, and b) dare to captain him in a favourable fixture at home to Swansea? If not then does it not seem that RVP might be the next best option against Chelsea at home? If this is the case, then surely his inclusion from GW1 is a necessity.
Nothing else really sticks out for GW2 except once again Walcott against Fulham away, but even this is debatable as there is always the possibility of Cazorla and Giroud taking his points.

Coming on to GW3, it seems a Man City player sticks out as the option but uncertainty clouding the places of Aguero/Dzeko/Negredo and the lack of an explosiveness but David Silva, there again lies a problem.

On to GW4 it seems that RVP is undoubtedly the option to have for captain and begins to become 'essential'.

With all this in mind then, is it wise to go without RVP from the start? He could be a decent captain for GW2 due to lack of other options and is likely to score well in GW1 anyway where a lot of people may even captain him. With a 36-37% ownership last time I checked, it could be suicidal to not have RVP in your team and will be a struggle to get him in afterwards following the template cheap forward line consisting of the likes of Lukaku, Benteke, Dzeko, JRod, etc.

So what do people think? Does the lack of any other captaincy options due to absences (Aguero, Sturridge) or sharing of points (Arsenal - Giroud/Walcott/Santi) make RVP essential from the start?

I'm starting to come around to the idea too. My reasoning is that if he flops, it's easy to get rid of him, for example in GW3 when people will need to get rid of some of the DGWers. But if he starts like last year and you don't have him, well, good luck bringing him in.

On a similar note, you mentioned Hazard: is it a good tactic to downgrade Hazard to Oscar to leverage funds to buy RvP?

I don't personally see RVP as a good captain option at all for home to Chelsea and away to Liverpool in GW2+3 and so I guess I don't see your point fully!

Personally I will have Coutinho or Mirallas on GW2 and Silva for GW3. Because without RVP you can assemble the best midfield I have ever seen in over 6 years of playing this game.

it's not balanced though...the people with inferior captain options will be spending a lot of money elsewhere and hopefully picking up points from this...so the RVP decision is more complex than is implied by your post

there are many ways to score points in this game. you can go down the all eggs in one basket route invest in star players (last season RVP+Suarez+Bale) and captain them week in week out. or you can spread around the wealth and go for a balanced team.

they may well get you to the same result, if they dont then its down to luck (good or bad) either way.
over 2-3 GWs the sample size is way too small to judge. what happens is you get bandwagons form on the smallest of data possible.

not saying what is best but there are more than one way to skin a cat.
you can have RVP or you can spread the value amongst 2-3 quality players in your squad. one tactic or another is unlikely to kill you - its the knee jerking from one to the other which will though

Well I'm going to stick my neck out and build a team without Van Persie. I'd decided to omit both him and Bale in fact so that I have a squad of 15 decent players with no make-weights (arguably bar the 2nd keeper)

I've never done an RMT before, but I'd really appreciate some feedback.

      GK Cech, Boruc
DEF Merts, Kos, Ivanovic, Zab, Coleman
MID Hazard, Coutinho, Mirallas, Zaha, Kim (Cardiff)
      FWD Giroud, Dzeko, Aspas

Now I know what you'll all say - I've spent far too much at the back. So let me explain my thinking:
      1. The FPL bods have done some subtle tinkering to prices this year after it became too easy to build a super-midfield last year.
      2. In addition, after Van Persie, the next tranche of expensive forwards are risky - banned, head in the wrong place or subject to rotation. This is actually a strong argument to include Van Persie, of course - but let me go on to my third point.
      3. I believe that this year defenders will be worth investing in more than in previous years - certain ones, anyway. I'm referring to the Mourinho effect. I expect him to revert to his old tactics when he managed Chelsea, making Stamford Bridge a fortress, and grinding out 1-0s all over the shop. What's more, whereas he has too many midfielders and will have to rotate a lot, I expect his back line to be more settled, once we know what it is. Thus I'm confident that Cech is worth investing in as a season keeper (Boruc is really in just for GW 2 and 3), and Cole and Ivanovic will total up plenty over the season. I also wonder if his playing style will have the back line playing loads of short passes to each other and toting up bonuses.

Arsenal have a settled back line and easy fixtures to start with. City have an easy start to, but over the season I see them being an 'anti-Chelsea' - scoring tons but being less careful at the back, so Zab may not stay long. Coleman is OOP and good value.

The midfield doesn't need much explaining; Hazard will be my GW1 cap but I am concerned that M may save some of his best players for the United and Bayern games, putting out a second-string for the easy homers in GW1. Mirallis is OOP, Zaha has been good pre-season and I reckon is ahead of Young and Nani so will be a starter. Kim has been quietly impressing in pre-season. I did have Joe Allen there, but I've taken him out in case I decide to switch Cech for Mignolet later on to free up cash.

Front line - Giroud is a starter unless Arsene brings someone in, and he's been on fire pre-season. Aspas has also impressed and is a sure starter until/unless Suarez returns. Dzeko I'm unsure about - he's staked a claim in pre-season but he'll be rotated. I'm guessing with Aguero not fully fit and the other 2 forwards being newbies, Dzeko will start the first few games. I did have Lukaku, but I'm not confident how many minutes he'll get.

In addition, of my starting XI, 10 are at home in GW1 (inc 3 DGW Chelsea players), so I honestly think this team will get me off to a blistering start.

Please, feel free to disagree and shoot me down!!!!

It's not that your decided to go with an expensive backline so much as it's that you're spent too much on your bench.

At best you're gong to have 10.5mil tied up every week in two defenders who will rarely pay.

We want to aim to have as much of our "capital" on the pitch each week earning us returns.

This is even more important at the start of the year when we haven't yet had a chance to build up or team's value.

That's a very fair point. For GW1 Chelsea's 2 home fixtures look like easy points in the bag. Right now my midfield and forward line look good to me, and the first couple of GWs will give me a chance to see which of them look disappointing. So for GW3 I should be making a double transfer to scale down the back and add someone who appears to hit early form further up the pitch. As I mentioned in my long explanation, I suspect that changes to bonus points might mean that it's not so bad having 4 or even 5 at the back this year, so I'm taking a chance and breaking the mould with received wisdom on formations.

Sir, I see the value in 'heavy hitting' defenders, I truly do.
Players like Baines & Evra would have cracked the Top 10 scoring midfielders last
year so they've proved their worth as it were.

However, I do not agree with your reasoning to buck tradition in favour of fielding 4/5 defenders because of the new BPS. I feel you've put too much stock into how the BPS will affect scoring.

As this table shows, under the new BPS the largest swing we would have seen amongst any player would have been Vertonghen adding only 6pts to his total score... Hardly enough to warrant significant changes to our approach, right?

            http://public.tableausoftware.com/views/OptaBonusPointSystemEffect/OptaBonusPointSystemEffect?:embed=y&:display_count=no

Surely after seeing this data you'll want to re-think this strategy & consider reallocating your budget to players with better attacking potential.

Yeh, I'm not really disagreeing with that. In the short term, I feel that with Chelsea's DGW1 and Arsenal and City's opening fixtures, there are clean sheets to be had early doors. Furthermore, further up the pitch, with the likes of Chelsea and City it's hard to see who'll be regular starters. So I'm hanging back a few GWs to see which top-class midfielders and strikers rise to the top. Thus my squad for GW1 doesn't necessarily reflect my long-term strategy; rather, I'm looking for a season-starting boost.

Agreed Anelka is a punt but £5.5m is a nice price. If Soldado is £9m I could go Aspas instead of Anelka with a plan of Ivano, Hazard & Lukaku to Zaba, Silva & Soldado before the blank for minus 4 (in the hope of avoiding any rises/drops).

    The Great Front Line Debate

This has been the part of my team where I have chopped and changed constantly, never really being happy with the final product. Thought I would help out others who, like me, are struggling to make the right choices. So I'm going to go through striking options from each team and basically then giving you a list of recommendations:

    Arsenal
Giroud (8.5m) is your best bet in the Gunners front line. He now has 7 preseason goals and barring any crazy transfers by Wenger he will be the main striker for the season. The other option is Podolski (8.5m), however he has developed himself into a winger instead of a centre forward. He may get more assists then Giroud, but the Frenchman is a bigger goal threat and if you aren't keen on having Walcott (9.5m), I recommend Giroud. Also watch out for Sanogo (5.0m) later in the season.

    Aston Villa
With the double gameweek to start the season, there are three options to choose from when it comes to the Villa strikers. Benteke (9.0) is the popular option, and if he can resurrect the form from the end of last season, he could be looking at 20+ goals again this season, and is a viable DGW option. The other options are Weimann (6.0m) and Agbonglahor (7.0m), who could both partner Benteke up front if Villa roll out a 3-4-3, if not, then I don't think they are worth the risk. Keep an eye on Bent (6.5m), as he may end up staying at Villa and become another DGW option.

    Cardiff City
Though we don't know as much about the promoted teams, from the preseason it seems that Cornelius (5.5m) is their main man for the season. Other options appear to be Campbell (5.5m) and Maynard (4.5m), however the latter seems like being a bench option later in the match.

    Chelsea
With Mourinho back at the helm, there are three options you can go with in the double gameweek. With Spain having an international match just a day or so before the match against Hull, it is highly unlikely that Torres (9.0m) will start, however he should start against Villa later in the gameweek. So the battle for the centre forward role against Hull comes down to Ba (8.5m) and Lukaku (8.0m), with the latter seeming more likely to start off the back of some solid preseason form. Tread carefully with any of these choices, as none seem nailed on as Chelsea's main striker.

    Crystal Palace
From the preseason matches, it seems like there are only three potential options for the start of the season for Holloway's men. With their main striker Murray (5.5m) currently injured, Gayle (5.0m), Dobbie (4.5m) and Wilbrahim (4.5m) are the men who could be reaping the rewards of Holloway's attacking style. Gayle looks the most likely, with Dobbie next in line, don't see Wilbrahim getting too many starts.

    Everton
Martinez looks like he might have some trouble picking his centre forward this season, with an abundance of options at his disposal. These include Kone (7.0m), Anichebe (5.5m), Delofeu (6.0m) and Jelavic (7.5m). If Jelavic leaves, then Kone looks like he will lead the line, with Anichebe possibly playing in the hole, if not, it's hard to say how they'll line up.

    Fulham
With Jol looking for a new striker, it seems like the chances of Rodallega (5.5m) and possibly even Ruiz (6.0m) are getting slim. One striker you can count on at Fulham is Berbatov (7.5m), who was a solid choice last season and looks well priced again this season.

    Hull City
Although it is doubtful that many people would be keen on getting a Hull striker, three present possible investment for those who are keen. Graham (5.5m) could be set to be their main forward for the season, with Aluko (5.0m) and Fryatt (4.5m) as the other options. Honestly though, don't get a Hull striker, plenty of better options.

    Liverpool
With Suarez (11.0m) suspended and Sturridge (9.0) under an injury cloud, the main striker option at Liverpool looks like being Aspas (7.0), who has been impressive in preseason. The only problem with going with a Liverpool striker is that you won't get 1 of Toure, Mignolet and Gerrard/Coutinho, so choose wisely.

    Manchester City
This is seriously the hardest one to review, because Pellegrini is spoilt for choice this season. The preseason hype is around Dzeko (7.5m), due to the injury cloud over Aguero (11.0m), however the other two choices you have are Negredo (9.5m) and Jovetic (9.5m). The rotation risk has always been an issue with City, however Dzeko looks like the best bet for the start of the season, and at that price he is a solid option.

    Manchester United
Everyone seems to be under the impressions that RVP (14.0m) is the only viable option in United's attack, with Hernandez (7.5m) and Welbeck (7.5m) looking like being substitutes. Of course, this all depends on what happens with Rooney (10.5m) and whether he is going to Chelsea or not. RVP just seems too pricey for the start of the season, but he is a solid captain option every week.

    Newcastle
With it seeming unlikely that Bent will go to the Toon, Cisse (8.5m) and Gouffran (6.5m) are the best bets if you wanted to go down that path. Problem is that Cisse is too pricey and Gouffran isn't that great, so avoid the Toon strikers for now.

    Norwich
After signing van Wolfswinkel (7.0m) and Hooper (6.5m), it seems unlikely that Becchio (5.0m) will get much game time, however Hooper is very nicely priced and has shown that he can fit straight into Hughton's structure with a brace in his first game for the Canaries. Van Wolfswinkel also offers good potential, and with Snodgrass and others providing plenty of chances for both of the new front men.

    Southampton
There are only two options in the Saints front line, Lambert (7.5m) and Rodriguez (6.0m), and over the preseason there has been debate as to which one should be picked for your team. The assumption is that Rodriguez will be the centre forward, with Lambert playing in the hole. This gives both men the chance to score and assist, so Rodriguez presents the greater potential when he is 1.5m cheaper.

    Stoke City
Normally you wouldn't look at Stoke as being an attacking option, however Crouch (6.0m) looks very tempting with a decent run of fixtures early. Could be a decent differential. The other options with Stoke are Jones (5.0m) and Jerome (5.0m), but both seem unlikely to score that highly.

    Sunderland
With Fletcher (7.5m) in doubt through injury, Altidore (7.0m) could be another differential option at the Black Cats, with Di Canio looking to play free-flowing football again this season. There really aren't any other options until Fletcher comes back, so if you're keen for a Sunderland player, go with Altidore for now.

    Swansea
With Michu (9.0m) playing in the hole as a midfielder, your only striker option looks like being Bony (8.0m), who seems like he could be a great choice this season. Hard fixtures early mean that he would be a better choice later on, but Swansea have proved to be fixture proof in the past. Moore (4.5m) is their only other striker, but expect him to only get a little bit of game time.

    Tottenham
With all the hype around Bale possibly leaving, Soldado looks like being the best bet when it comes to an attacking option, but only if he's 10m or less. Other options are Adebayor (8.0m) and Defoe (8.5m), but when Soldado comes in their game time could be severely cut.

    West Brom
With the acquisition of Anelka (5.5m), West Brom have a strong front line going into the new season. It seems unlikely that Rosenberg (5.0m) and Odemwinge (6.0m) will get much game time, and it looks like it will be between Anelka and Long (6.5m) for the main spot. At 34, Anelka is looking fit and strong and could be the bargain of the season if he can rekindle the form in 2008/9 which saw him win the Golden Boot.

    West Ham
Last, but certainly not least, the Hammers might be without Carroll (7.5m), giving Maiga (5.0m) a chance to shine with the great early fixtures. Another good differential option could be Vaz Te (5.5m), and he could challenge Maiga for the centre forward role if Carroll is unfit to play.

Well that pretty much sums it up, so now here are my top picks, and then the front line I'm looking to go with:

    Top Picks
    Giroud
    Benteke
    RVP
    Soldado
    Dzeko
    Anelka
    Rodriguez
    Berbatov
    Bony
    Hooper
    Aspas

    My front 3:

    Dzeko Soldado Giroud

Hope that helps guys, just thought I would share my thoughts and hopefully they made sense 🙂

I have always liked to have 3 proper strikers in my team and I believe this has been the tactic of most top performers and winners of the game but I am really struggling too this season. If money were no object then I would pick RVP, Aguero and Sturridge but two of those have injury concerns and rotation risks later in the season. Where as the midfield options of 9.5m and less are so abundant that I will have to resort to 3-5-2 this season I think.

3-5-2 has been a popular choice. Alternatively, you could have rotating 5th mid and 3rd striker so that you swap between 3-5-2 and 3-4-3. I was tempted by the Jarvis/Rodriguez rotation 🙂

I'm pretty happy atm with it assuming Bale goes, haven't tinkered in a while now!

    Migs - Mannone

    Riether - Cole - Clyne - Chester - Parr

    Coutinho - Walcott - Hazard - Noble

RVP - Lambert - 6.5 (Hooper atm but we will say what happens with transfers)

Bit uneasy on Coutinho now with more and more pool signings :/

RMT Please. Feels like I'm good to go, only real concern at present is when rotation starts for the front line, but think all those strikers could score well in the opening weeks. Likely doing without RVP until WC:

Has the potential to do really well there.

They are a well run club, he has a manager there that really likes him and Fulham are in need of a creative midfielder.

I doubt he will be indulged anywhere near as much as he was under Warnock in the promotion season so he could end up being a good fit there.

Good luck to him if he goes and thanks for helping take us back to the promised land. Just a shame we messed it all up once we got there.

It would be a shame, Henry.

I genuinely hope he does fulfill it because he has bags of ability and, on his day, he can be unplayable. He has his faults but if you can harness all the good things he can do he can be a real force at the top level.

It's a shame that it looks like he will never fulfill that potential at Loftus Rd, but probably best for all concerned if he moves on now.

hello fellow fantasy football scout compadres,
I have a little bit of a conundrum,
    Kim> Bellamy
I've moved in Kim, at 0.7% ownership he's a nice differential and it's a handy .5 to save!
    🙂

now, the conundrum is, am i falling to much into Friendly form?
Is anyone else getting aboard the mighty Kim Bandwagon?

As a fantasy manger that's something i had to hear
but as a Cardiff supporter, I hope I'm right about Kim being a good pick and wrong about Bellamy being a not so good pick 🙂

I'm tempted by Kim. But I'm going 3-4-3 to start with so would rather save the 0.5m on my fifth midfielder and get a 4.5m option.

If you're going 3-5-2 then go for it, you could do a lot worse.

Thanks for the help (+1s done!)
I'm going 3-4-3 with 4M in the kitty for a rainy day!
Robbie Brady and Kim rotating (as well as J.Rod/Brayford/Chester for the other spot)
so it can change from 3-4-3 to 4-4-2 or even a 4-3-3 🙂

Current thinking is to have 4 DGWers and keep sufficient money back to switch to RVP thereafter.

    Mignolet (Boruc)
    Cole Mert Collins (Brayford, Chester)
    Hazard Walcott Snodgrass Mirallas (Thomas)
    Lukaku Benteke Anelka

    5.5m in bank.

Benteke -> RvP and Lukaku-> Dzeko (if playing) or Berba over first couple of GW.
Will leave me with 1m to spend elsewhere (may downgrade on of Cole/Mert to upgrade in midfield)

    Thoughts?

I think that unless you are planning a WC then you will lose any gains in GW1 by GW3 with two players without fixtures and poor subs or by transferring away the points you made up. Personally I think it's 2 maybe 3 at best for DGW or just go for 5-6 and plan to WC and get on every bandwagon.

played Morata at Real, Lukaku will start GW1, and if he scores he might start the second game, but most likely Torres will start the second game with Lukaku getting a 30 min sub appearance

Swansea's first two fixtures are not so good (well, except Tottenham's defense seems so-so right now) and he's expensive now. Personally I was trying to get him in my team but I'm also trying to fit RvP and it's tough. But he's been in a few teams. He might be a good choice from GW2 and on.

I think Swansea are definitely top 6 material with Laudrup in charge. Michu, even at £9m, could be a good way to go, you know.

Clearly he and Bony are going to score the majority of Swans goals. Even with bad fixtures you can make the case that Michu is almost fixture proof.
