PlayON Returns To The Scout

We’re delighted to announce that Fantasy Football Scout will be supporting PlayON over the coming season – a weekly Fantasy game which debuted on the site at the tail-end of the last campaign. Many of our community tried the game out at that time and, due to the positive reaction from you and our own enjoyment in playing the game, we’re now supporting the game for the duration of the 2013/14 season.

This will mean some pre-season guides which will outline the deeper strategies of the game next week, with regular weekly articles offering tips for the forthcoming Gameweek. We’ll also be running official Fantasy Football Scout game with prize pools donated by PlayON. There’s also plans for specific PlayON tables for our members, to help give them that extra edge. More on all that to come.

What is PlayON?

The concept of PlayON is beautifully simple, although there is a welcome level of depth underpinning the game; a factor that will appeal to the more seasoned Fantasy manager.

You pick a starting eleven from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Easy.

The depth comes in when you start to look at player prices. These vary week to week and are based on an algorithm that measures recent performance and adjusts their price accordingly. With a bit of research and knowledge, then, you can easily spot a bargain to hopefully give you an edge. You can resave your team as many times as you want right up to 2 hours before the first kick-off. It’s your last saved team that gets entered into all your games.

Once your team is built, this can then be used to enter a number of multiplayer games or one-on-one challenges. You can play a free multiplayer game without making a deposit or just challenge another player for fun.

Alternatively, you can play for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of wining your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings. Similarly, you can challenge another player one-on-one with a slider used to select the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Gareth Southgate and Opta Joe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged.

Why Should I Play?

Apart from the pricing system giving the knowledgeable Fantasy manager an edge, PlayON’s scoring system plays into the hands of those familiar and comfortable with statistics.

While goals, assists and clean sheets all contribute big points to your players’ totals, you also score points for shots on target, saves, interceptions, clearances and tackles. All the data is gathered from Opta so, those Scout visitors who have access to our Members area will have a real edge when it comes to team selection. Using our tables and player comparison tool, you can quickly begin to unearth some gems when you couple this with the player pricing.

The live matchday page is also worth experiencing. Once the matches kick-off, you can watch a live feed of the match events that effect your team with your points totting up as they roll in, vidiprinter style. The standings in your games are also updated live so you can see how you’re faring and if you’re currently in the money.

The game is also developing communities of players, united under their own club. Simply choose the club you wish to represent. Each week you play your team points get added to your club total. In addition, the top points scorer from each club represents the club in the “League of Titans” the following week. Every 10 weeks, the top two teams in each division are promoted and the bottom 2 teams are relegated. We’ll bring you more on this feature next week.

How Do I Start?

It’s all pretty easy. Register an account at PlayON at www.playon.co.uk. You don’t have to make a deposit as you can play the free multiplayer games without shelling out.

We’ve been set up as Ambassadors in the game along with Fowler, Southgate and OptaJoe. This doesn’t mean we’ll be handing out Ferrero Rocher before the match but it does mean we get a fancy badge and can set up multiplayer games and be challenged for one-on-ones.

There is a “Freebie” game running that all can join and you can find us and challenge our team to a one-on-one game for £1. You can also easily create your own games for you and a group of mates. You’ll also find the Fantasy Football Scout team in the “Ambassadors Game”.

As it is the start of the season, PlayON have an offer for people creating a multiplayer game for their friends – set up a real money game for Gameweek 1 and when 10 people join, PlayON will add a £10 bonus to the pot so everyone benefits.

We’ve also got our own regular Fantasy Football Scout multiplayer game dedicated to our community. That’s just £2 to enter and PlayON are guaranteeing a £500 prize pot in Gameweek 1 – potentially, this offers a fine start to the season for one of our community members. PlayON will also be providing more guarantees and bonuses each month throughout the season – so get involved!

You have to be aged over 18 to play real money games at PlayON and if you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

If you're not set on Weimann then upgrade him to Giroud and then if you can get that extra 0.5m you can upgrade Lambert to Lukaku so you still have a DGW striker and a more solid front 3 🙂

Morning lads, getting pretty excited that the first game is almost a week away, and now I'm just doing the fine tuning of my team. Thoughts on the better combo:

    A: Zabaleta and Giroud

    Or

    B: Coleman and Soldado

    Thanks in advance fellas 🙂

cole is the 'safe' choice but also the least likely to get big points. luiz is a no-go due to injury concerns. ivan is a slight rotation risk but, given azpil's friendly in close proximity with gw1, will almost definitely start the first game and *probably* the second too.

the really interesting question is terry. will jose favour him after all this time? does he get into the team by default in one or both of the games gw1? he's an absolute steal at 6.0 if so.

i think ivanovic won't play second. i think he's a bench warmer now.

gw 2 onwards should be: azpil luiz terry cole. cahill is third choice maybe and ivanovic is 4th choice CB

Does anyone else think Jenkinson is a good shout? Sagna has been playing center-back for preseason and says he like it there, Koscielny and Vermaelen are apparently injured and Jenkinson was a fairly frequent rotation option. At 4.5 it really seems good, any critics?

the problem is that unless you're wildcarding early, you'll presumably be using early transfers to ship out your chelsea/villa players, so you'll be stuck with a guy who'll soon be relegated to the bench. i'd only pick him if you're willing to take the risk.

no, i mean everyone's getting chelsea (or villa, but mainly chelsea) players for the double gameweek 1, unless they're nuts 😛 and then getting rid of them as fast as possible because they don't play in gameweek 3. so free transfers are gonna be at a premium early on.

i think double liverpool defense is fine although i'm not spending that much on defense myself. i'd be more concerned about aspas, don't think he's worth the money myself. i prefer lampard to oscar for 0.5 less--even if oscar played 180 mins and lamps played 120, i still think lamps could potentially outscore him. i know oscar has had spells where he's picked up the pace, but yet to prove himself IMO and we can't be sure jose will play him every game when there's so much competition (don't forget schurrle for example, he's not another marin and will get plenty of games)

still don't see the point in getting benteke for two away games against top 4 sides. the potential is not great, and their fixtures after that are pretty dire too even ignoring the gw3 absence.

i quite like morrison assuming he starts. snodgrass or nolan are the popular alternatives for mid-price midfielders.

Boruc to a 4.0 or another 4.5. Dont double on SOT defence
      Toure to a 4.5- Collins?
Morrison is good for a punt, dont do 2 out there punts Zaha out

IMO there will be plenty of bandwagons to get on , for price rises, set your inital team up with players guaranteed to start

Morrison should start, he is their best player after all. But with Oscar, Zaha and Aspas all borderline punts you may suffer a touch.

There is no such thing as a good 4.5 midfielder. Thomas is the common choice around here, but you should never play him, so it doesn't really matter.

Best 4.0 defender seems to be Brayford right now. Best 4.5 defender is debatable, but I'm going with Collins.

Thomas will play, but he won't get any points. If he's featuring in your starting XI, there's a problem with your team.

Garrido isn't nailed on. Get Turner if you want Norwich defense.

4.5 - pair up Collins and Clyne/Shaw. I suspect Soldado is nailed on. They didn't spend 28M to have him learn watching Adebayor.

Hey lads, haven't been keeping an eye or pre-season so my team is pretty much from 2 weeks ago.
First RMT, what are the issues? I'm sure there's something.. haha 🙂
    Appreciate it!

    Foster - Boruc
    Terry - Mertesacker - Coleman - Collins - McNaughton
    Hazard - Walcott - Nolan - Snodgrass - Thomas
    RVP - Lukaku - JRod

I wouldn't mind that to be honest as I can't take advantage of rotation with the hope that Coleman's attacking gain is fixture proof.

The positive about him is that you're confident when you captain him, even if he has hard fixtures. You just have that confidence going. Plus, I have 3 Chelsea players; not worth my worries to trade in RVP when I'm dumping.

      Dzeko (rotation risk)
      Bentenke (crap schedule)
Sturridge (health questions... and "can he be The Guy"? questions)
      Lukaku (rotation risk)
Bony (crap schedule; sharing with Michu)
      Berbatov (talented, yet lazy)
Giroud/Podolski (wouldn't you rather just have Walcott?)
Van Wolfswinkel & Hooper (which one will emerge?)
Lambert (if he's so good, why is everyone all over J-Rod?)
      Carroll (health question for GW1)
      Newcastle trio (who?)
Bent (can't buy a start unless transferred)
Altidore (had one terrible year at Hull followed by two great years in the Dutch league... can he cut it in the EPL at age 23 now? with Fletcher a health issue, does he get his chance to shine in the first 3 matches?)

Add on who I missed and dispute as you will.

Chelsea midfield are a total crapshoot, although I suspect Hazard is the most likely to play both. I have Lampard because I need the extra cash, but Mourinho has said he needs fitness. Mata has some sort of niggle but if he plays both games he's probably the best scoring bet. Oscar might be worth a shot. It'll all be 20/20 hindsight after Villa with many managers on here saying "if only I had stayed with X" . . .

Your team doesn't really play to the DGW either, but that isn't necessarily a problem. It gives you more flexibility.

It really depends on the other players in your team.

For a Liverpool defender, Toure is a great budget option, but if you've got money, try GJ.

For City, it's a bit tougher to tell, but Zabaleta looks likely to start. Not too sure about Lescott, though.

We all want our Chelsea defender to start twice, but who will?

    Chelseas defence across the friendlies:

    1
Wallace (Ivanovic ht), Kalas (Cahill ht), Terry (Chalobah ht), Cole (Bertrand ht)

    2
Ivanovic (Wallace h/t), Chalobah (Kalas h/t), Terry (c) (Cahill h/t), Bertrand (Cole h/t)

    3
    Wallace (Ivanovic h/t), Cahill, Terry (c) (Kalas h/t), Bertrand (Cole h/t);

    4
    Ivanovic (Azpilicueta 67), Cahill (David Luiz 60), Terry (c), Cole (Bertrand 72);

    5
    Azpilicueta (Terry h/t), Cahill, Ivanovic, Bertrand (Cole h/t);

    6
    Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry (c) (Azpilicueta 73), Cole;

    Conclusions:

    RB
Overall minutes: Ivanovic 450; Azpilicueta 85
Notes: The only occasion Azpilicueta started at RB, Ivanovic was playing at CB. JM seems to contradict his earlier statement that Ivanovic will play as only RB. Practically speaking we could see:

A Ivanovic plays both games at RB
B Ivanovic plays the first game at RB, and Azpilicueta plays the second at RB
C Ivanovic plays the first game at RB, the second at CB, and Azpilicueta plays the second at RB

In my opinion, A and C are more likely because of Ivanovic's greater pre-season; compared to Azpilicueta's low minutes and friendly leading up to the Hull City Game. Option C however does imply that either Terry or Cahill will miss out on the second.

Lastly, there has been some suggestion that Azpilicueta is better suited to the RB role as he may be able to overlap with Mata who would be cutting in. I am skeptical about this as Ivanovic is an accomplished RB, and attempting to predict JM's tactics is fraught with danger.

    CB
Overall minutes: Terry 343 Cahill 420 Luiz 30
Notes: Any dismissive notions about Cahill's game time under JM may be undermined by his frequent appearances in pre-season. Luiz's participation in the Confederations Cup and hamstring injury may mean the misses the start of the season.

    LB
Overall minutes: Bertrand 198 Cole 342
Notes: Bertrand has played significant minutes, but in my opinion Cole should start both games of the DGW. There is a significant gulf in class between Cole and Bertrand, quite unlike the competition that exists in the other position's of Chelsea's rearguard.

    Plan

Assess what defence JM plays against Roma.
Pay close attention to pre-match conferences.
Follow-up the recovery of David Luiz, as he may recover in time for the second game..even the opener.
See how Azpilicueta fares in the friendly if he were to - however unlikely - pick up an injury.
    Cross fingers 🙂

I suspect Mourinho is pretty cold blooded in terms of picking his best CB pairing but I think Terry will get the nod. Terry looked pretty solid in the 2 games I saw in the US. I just think v. Hull -
          Ivan/Cahill/Terry/Cole
          v. Villa -
          Aspi/Ivan/Terry/Cole
          Just a guess obviously.

To drop 6.5 on Ivanovic, or even 6.0 with JT, and have him miss a game doesn't make sense.

Cech + bonus points + saves + same cost at Ivanovic makes sense.

I'm very happy you have put this out there, but again, that game against Villa may prove aggravating massively. Will JM drop half of his best players to give him a rest for the big Man U match, or not?
On the bright side, Ivanovic seems to have got plenty of time under his belt, and his flexibility means he has more chance of playing. Good good.

Serbia's friendly against Colombia will be played in Spain. Thus the flight time will not be a problem, and Ivanovic will be fit to play against Hull. Ivanovic seems set to start the game against Hull, but nobody can sure if he starts against Villa.

        Jussi isn't really worth 5.5

If you want an expensive keeper like that, go for Migs. Otherwise downgrade to a keeper that rotates well with Boruc.

Everything else looks alright. Interesting choice to captain Lukaku over Hazard.

I struggle paying 5.5 for Jaaskelainen, although I suspect WHM will be in the 10-12 CS category. As you have Walcott, I might drop Giroud, and pick up a CHE defender. This DGW1 has at least 1 CS. possibly 2, written all over it.

        no Lambert for me.

So far I'm on Bale, Aspas, Benteke

        Coutinho is looking good but
Aspas should nail down central attacking in opening fixtures, but when Sturridge's fit he's the Liverpool guy I'd want.
        Soldado hasn't have any preseason
So does Bale, but he's Bale.
Benteke is on fire during preseason, but fixtures is shit and he doesn't score against big teams, and I will take him out most probably for a hit later on.
whereas Dzeko is also on fine form and is a good short-term punt.

Right now Kagawa's chance for nailed on is below 50%. It's because he didn't play much in preseason. There is still Welbeck or Rooney. Or even Adnan Januzaj. Even if Rooney leaves, Kagawa's chance to be nailed on in the beginning matches is still 40%, Welbeck 45%, Adnan 15%.

Dzeko, lambert or jrod, anelka, aspas - all good options but with some risk.

        Thanks.

I'll go with Anelka for now for my bench, so I can have 5 starting midfielders.

Which Chelsea player will be away next week for the international game? I know Mata and Torres are rested. Thanks!
