With Gameweek four behind us we once again delve into the Sky Sports game, reviewing the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, the bonus point beneficiaries and the latest transfer market trends. As always, we also look ahead to the forthcoming Gameweek, with a couple of suggested captain options.

Gameweek 4 Man of the Match Awards

Listed below is a match-by-match breakdown of the players who won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Man United vs Crystal PalaceWayne Rooney
Aston Villa vs NewcastleHatem Ben Arfa
Fulham vs West BromMorgan Amilfitano
Hull City vs CardiffJoe Lewis
Stoke City vs Man CityCharlie Adam
Sunderland vs ArsenalMesut Ozil
Tottenham vs NorwichGylfi Sigurdsson
Everton vs ChelseaGareth Barry
Southampton vs West HamJussi Jaaskelainen
Swansea vs LiverpoolDaniel Sturridge

For the first time this season goalkeepers entered the thoughts of the Sky reporter with two shot stoppers – Joe Lewis and Jussi Jaaskelainen – managing to achieve the accolade. Elsewhere the awards were spread amongst six midfielders and two forwards. Charlie Adam and Hatem Ben Arfa have now received the plaudits twice in four matches and come in at a budget friendly 4.9 million and 5.9 million respectively – both also have a hand in set pieces and seem viable options to fund further big-hitting options.

Gameweek 4 Bonus Points

Six goalkeepers picked up save bonus last week. Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet was one of the beneficiaries and has now picked up bonus points in two of his four fixtures – he has also been credited with 19 saves overall, the highest of any stopper.

In defence, a total of 12 players fetched bonus, six for tackles and six for passes completed. No one managed to achieve both, although Swansea’s young full-back Ben Davies came closest with 62 completed passes and 2 tackles, a couple of challenges short.

In midfield, 19 players picked up bonus – eight for tackling and 13 for passes, which was the highest amount of any Gameweek so far. Jon Obi-Mikel and Aaron Ramsey were the two men to gain bonus for both – Ramsey’s all round game has helped him pick up passing and tackling bonus three times each in his four games so far, earning an additional 12 points.

In the forward positions, somewhat surprisingly, two players gained tackling bonus. Steven Naismith and Bryan Ruiz were the men defending from the front – although both found themselves in slightly deeper or wider roles than their classification as a frontman suggests.

A reminder that Fantasy Football Scout members can access all the data regarding bonus points using player stats and clicking the Sky Sports tab.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

NameTeamValue% of Managers
SilvaMan City8.44.70%
ColeWest Ham4.72.82%
ColemanEverton6.52.33%
SturridgeLiverpool9.21.92%
CazorlaArsenal8.71.89%

Injury seems to have forced the hand of Fantasy managers in most of the names above, however the removal of the in-form Seamus Coleman (2.33%) and Daniel Sturridge (1.92%) seems a little hasty. We can only assume these sales were in order to fund other big hitting options elsewhere.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
OzilArsenal8.86.63%
RamseyArsenal5.84.81%
Ben ArfaNewcastle5.93.62%
SturridgeLiverpool9.23.36%
RoseTottenham4.73.35%

Arsenal players continue to dominate the transfers in with Mesut Ozil (6.63%) and Aaron Ramsey (4.81%) picking up yet more suitors. Hatem Ben Arfa’s last two games have been eye-catching with 3.62% of Fantasy managers acquiring the Frenchman on the back of two goals and MoTM awards in his last couple of fixtures. Daniel Sturridge (3.36%) and Danny Rose (3.35%) feature again this week, though the latter was subbed off in Tottenham’s Europa League win over Tromso last night and looks a doubt for Sunday’s trip to Cardiff.

Gameweek 5 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the armband options for Gameweek 5, we can again highlight two alternatives, one using a captain change during the Gameweek and one using a transfer.

Captain Option 1

You have a captain playing in Saturday’s fixtures and use a captain change to a player set to feature in Sunday’s fixtures. If you used option one from last week you should be coming into the Gameweek with Daniel Sturridge holding the armband.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge → Robin Van Persie

Although Robin Van Persie’s trip to the Etihad on Sunday is hardly ideal, this tactic would enable you to enter Gameweek 6 without making a captain change, with the armband on the Dutchman for the following Saturday’s home fixture against West Brom.

Captain Option 2

You have a captain playing Saturday and use a transfer to a player featuring in Sunday’s matches.

Our Strategy:
Daniel Sturridge → Oliver Giroud

Using this method you would have the armband on the Arsenal forward at home to Stoke on Sunday and then later in the Gameweek you could use your captain change to a player involved the following Saturday – or simply keep it on Giroud, who rolls up to the Liberty in the teatime kick-off.

The Fantasy Football Scout League

Our own Fantasy Football Scout League is currently riding high on top of the Private League rankings. With a £1,000 prize to the winner, you’d be mad not to get involved. To join, visit Sky Sports Fantasy Football and key in League Name: FFScout, League Code: 8000112.

A quick RMT for my WC team?

    Boruc, Mignolet
    Zabaleta, Enrique, Chester, Shawcross, Coleman
    Walcott, HBA, Michu, Whittingham, Colback
    Benteke, Giroud, Sturridge

Going Enrique > Fonte (or someone in that pricerange) and Sturridge > Suarez in the next few GWs.

I quite like my midfield actually. Taken a lot of consideration and I have found myself favoring a top notch defense as they get all the bonuses nowadays. But thanks for feedback, I'll keep it in mind if things go south!

3-4-3, but always good with decent backup and the option of going 4-3-3. I have in fact, as Robinho suggested, downgraded Shawcross to Wilson, so I can either up my mid a bit or further upgrade (also as suggested) ie zab to vertonghen or something like that.

Or I can do nothing, keep my 2.3m in the bank and go straight for Sturridge>Suarez next gw.

I reckon so. I'm not convinced about City defensively but more importantly 4 of their next 5 are fairly tricky. As opposed to Spurs who have a brilliant run and Vert loves the BAPs.

Yeah he won't manage 90% pass completion so will be behind 1 BPS point at least (if Mert manages to get 90% that is). He will get a lot more assists though and score the odd goal, which are worth considerable BPS of course.

Gibbs assisted both goals in the Arsenal's win over Marseille and assisted against Fenerbahce.

Main thing for me is how injury prone he is and what state the Arsenal defence is in.

He will attack more than usual because Arsenal's left side is drifting into the right a lot. Our only current options there are Wilshere and Ozil.

Would it be unwise or maybe genius to field Ravel and bench Barkley for this GW? I think Ravel will start, is at home and we've heard so much about him. This game coukd easily be a 0-0 but if anyone can bring the magic I think it will be Ravel or Lukaku for Everton.

So to summise: Ravel or Barkley tomorrow?

    Cheers!

I don't think it will be a 0-0 with Lukaku on the field. I would have played Barkley ahead of Ravel. But its a game, and its all about punts!

I watched Ravel against Southampton. His positioning isn't too attractive, he's playing in central midfield behind Nolan (if he starts). If he does score, I think it'll almost certainly be from a long shot, which he isn't too bad at to be fair. Showed some nice touches and tried to dribble with mixed success.

Don't see much mention of Walters on here, even though he's on the watchllist, well priced, good fixtures and good threatening stats.

Or do people only consider players AFTER they've just scored a goal (Moses, Ramsey, Arfa, Eriksen, Michu, etc)?

Scoring a goal/ big points haul usually points to those players being in form and therefore worthy of picking. Especially instead of inconsistent players such as Walters

Not sure whether to go Benteke or Sturridge this week. Whichever one I keep will be sold for Suarez the following week.

The bookies say Sturridge is the man to go for. Last week was the first time I have ever owned Benteke & now I may just have to sell 😯

Not much love for Benteke as a captain option this week amongst the regulars here?

He did the double over Norwich last season, and I fancy him more than Sturridge this week for the reason that when Coutinho got taken off last weekend, Liverpool dropped in their rate of chance creation dramatically.

No Coutinho seems detrimental to Pools attack even though he isnt directly assisting DS15. Thoughts?

yea there's messi and then there's everyone else.

i think there are 2 types of dribblers, the santi cazorla's and the aaron lennon's of the world, the legit skillful players and the speed demons.

the latter category is usually horrible at passing. i think it's cos they are brought up based on speed and just lost the foundations of a good touch and pass - hard to do when running at full speed.

they're doing the business at the moment, but interesting that RVP has the most shots off target so far. i'd imagine if he converted even HALF of those 10, alot of people here will be singing a different tune.
