Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

    Jara
    Jags

    Knight

Is it worth doing Alex to Bosingwa for a 4pt hit? My other defenders are Jones, Faye, Williamson and Elmo.

Well, then Bosingwa would have to outscore them by 4 points to make it a break even transfer.

Is a bit of a gamble for a four pt hit. Just remembered ancelloti subbing Fereira after 59 mins in first game of season. Given he hasn't started for over a year the same fate could well fall on the Bos man. I'm bringing him in on my free, but wouldn't recommend a hit if you have other defenders who will be playing.

No line-ups revealed, at worst one of Malouda/A. Cole will be rested unless Ancelotti goes abosolutely blitzo with the kids.

Seen as Malouda and Kalou both got taken off, my suspicion would be that it could be Anelka who is given the rest this week.

Would be very suprised if Kalou didn't start. With Ramires out I would think (with Malouda the one under threat from Anelka or Kakuta)

        Bos Ivan Terry Cole
        Essien Mikel Zhirkov
        Kalou Drogba Malouda

O'Shea you'd think would get more cleansheets long-term than Salcido, just not sure whether he'll have RB enough of the time.

The singer. Carroll was benched on his last away game, and may not be mentally fully there.

Malouda hasn't been announced as not playing this week, so there's no chance I'd bench/sell him ...this week.

He's owned by 900% of managers and we can all afford the odd mistake even if he doesn't play, he's got his chance to go out with a bang for me.

If anyone is going to be rested it'll probably be A. Cole as I'm buying him, for a proxy hit.

chelsea have lacked a player who runs at people in the last couple of league games. that player is kalou. anelka has the advantage over malouda that he didn't play twice for france the other week. malouda has the advantage over anelka that kalou is better on the right than the left. it's going to be a horrible wait for that team news

...BUT, kalou has just come back from a few weeks out and played almost a full game on a plastic pitch. basically no one knows

He only came off 8 minutes before full time though SuperDunny. Not that much of a difference tbh.

oh ok, that's true. Still it's a positive indication for Malouda owners imo

That's a real toughie. Head says Fergusson (Home, bonus point magnet) but Blackpool have been best away from home so far. Form says Petrov. In conclusion, go with Figs.

fergusons in at the moment with petrov first sub. i expect 3-6 from ferguson whereas petrov could be 2-7 id guess. prob stick with ferguson

The Bos man is coming in but for who is the big question? Struggling to decide as not sure who is going to play at the back for Man City Sunday (is it worth keeping Richards in case he starts CB in Toure's absence? Any news on Toure?)

    Candidates:

1 Richards (worth 5.6 to me) - my preference
    2 K Toure (6.3)
    3 O'Shea (5.6)

    Thanks

P.S. I'm thinking O'Shea - Coleman next weeek anyway. Other defenders elmo (def in my XI) Foley (def not)
