Aaron Ramsey is expected to shake off a thigh complaint in time for Arsenal’s trip to Swansea. Steve Bruce reveals Robbie Brady is nursing a hernia problem. Danny Rose is likely to return for Tottenham, West Brom have concerns up front as they head to Old Trafford, Bryan Ruiz requires a late fitness test ahead of Fulham’s clash with Cardiff, while Palace welcome back Joel Ward but lose Damien Delaney for the trip to Southampton:

Arsene Wenger had plenty midfield issue to discuss in this morning’s press conference. The Gunners boss has revealed Theo Walcott is “realistically five weeks away” from a return to the first-team fold, though Santi Cazorla could be back after the international break. Wenger also revealed both Mathieu Flamini and Aaron Ramsey will be assessed prior to tomorrow’s trip to Swansea – Flamini has “a small shoulder problem”, while Ramsey, according to his manager, “has a little thigh problem but should be alright”. While the Ramsey prognosis seems positive, it is, nonethleless the 730,000+ Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers who have drafted the Welshman in over the last forthnight.

Having recently lost James Chester and Robert Koren for up to two months through injury, Hull boss Steve Bruce has admitted he is monitoring Robbie Brady’s condition, with the winger suffering from a hernia problem. At present, Bruce remains positive over Brady’s availability and is still uncertain whether the former United man will need to go under the knife to resolve the issue:

“Robbie has a problem that will obviously need to be sorted out sooner or later. We shall continue to monitor him and see how he goes and, at this stage, it is touch and go whether or not he will need an operation. The last thing you need after just coming up from the Championship is injuries to key players – and we have already got two key men ruled out for lengthy spells. Losing these lads is a big blow, but now we have just got to get on with it and hope we don’t have any more bad luck on the injury front.”

The Baggies have worries over a couple of forwards for their trip to Old Trafford this weekend. Nicolas Anelka and Victor Anichebe are both uncertain to feature against the champions – Steve Clarke could be set to field Shane Long as the lone forward if he retains the 4-2-3-1 system that proved so successful against Sunderland last weekend. Chris Brunt remains sidelined with a groin injury, though, with Scott Sinclair likely to benefit with another start on the left.

Andre Villas-Boas is confient of welcoming back Danny Rose to the Tottenham fold for tomorrow lunchtime’s clash against Chelsea at the Lane. The left-back has missed the last two games in all competitions with a toe problem but according to his manager:

“For Danny, there is a 90 per cent chance that he will make the game, so that gives us options down that flank.”

Rose should wrestle the starting role from Kyle Naughton, though Villas-Boas still has doubts over Younes Kaboul’s availability due to a thigh problem. Michael Dawson is set to continue in central defence, though Vlad Chiriches made his debut in the midweek cup win at Villa and offers an alternative.

Paul Lambert has a number of concerns as Villa prepare for the visit of City. The midlands club are, of course, without Christian Benteke for Saturday’s home clash with Manuel Pellegrini’s men but Lambert revealed the Belgian isn’t the only player he could be missing. Ashley Westwood remains a real doubt with the thigh problem that kept him out of last week’s win at Norwich while Gabby Agbonlahor, Antonio Luna, Fabian Delph and Ciaran Clark all picked up problems in the Canaries win and were omitted from the side that lost to Spurs in the cup earlier this week. The Villa boss remains optimistic, however, that the latter quartet will be ready in time and was also positive on a quicker-than-expected return for Benteke, going on to say:

“He is doing great and I think he will be back quicker. He is doing really fine now and seems a lot happier within himself. We just have to wait and see. We’ve got two games before the international break. The international break has probably come at the right time for him and for us and he is doing great at the minute. The worst fear was that he was going to be out for considerable time but the way he is progressing, I think everybody is pretty happy.”

Crystal Palace will be without centre-half Damien Delaney for tomorrow’s trip to Southampton. The defender was subbed off with an ankle injury in last week’s home defeat by Swansea and was initially expected to be facing a long spell on the sidelines but Ian Holloway suggested he has “half a chance” of making next week’s trip to Liverpool. Joel Ward is back for the Eagles, though, and will return at right-back, allowing Adrian Mariappa to move inside and partner Danny Gabbidon at centre-half.

Martin Jol could be set to welcome back Aaron Hughes and Bryan Ruiz to the Fulham fold this weekend. The Cottagers boss explained yesterday:

“Aaron will join us tomorrow and he will do a fitness test. Bryan is the same – I think he could be involved but we are not 100 per cent certain yet because he hasn’t trained with me, so he will join us on Friday.”

Fulham will be without Maarten Stekelenburg, Matthew Briggs and Ashkan Dejagah once again, though, with David Stockdale again benefitting from the Dutchman’s shoulder injury absence.

Barring an injury, you're very unlikely to get a regular player for that money

      Rangel (5.4) - Chico (5.0) - Williams(5.0) - Davies(5.0)/Naylor(4.4)

Naylor will at best share time with Davies.

True, worth consideration. As a Hammers fan my head tells me that when Downing and Cole are back they'll walk straight into the side but, you're right, he's certainly a more flair pick than Colback!

not really..it also screws up some of us more dedicted players as well. 😉

RVP injured plays into the FFS community hands, as many casuals will just have him as default captain. We are savvy enough to move on from the Dutchman if he's out.

Arsenal playing much better football without Arteta

Absolutely not. Ramsey is the in form CM in the league right now. Arteta doesn't have the legs to play the box to box role.

Yes, right now. He won't be in a couple of weeks. That's when you rotate. Arteta offers a completely different style than box to box and, while slowing up the play sometime (which is crucial in many matches) could easily prove very beneficial for Ozil.

And then of course they'll play Arteta and Ramsey, then when Wilshere is back they'll play him some etc. Lotta rotation.

Pretty much, rotate them. We know Ramsey plays well alongside him so Arteta deserves a chance to play beside him and see how he does. I see a good deal of rotation in that central area.

I think you are underestimating Ramseys importance, he has been our best player this season. More tackles, passes and goals than anyone in our team. As long as we keep winning, our midfield should be Flamini, Ramsey & Ozil.

I'm not at all, the point is Arsenal will have a few fixtures where neither Ramsey or Flamini are vital. Bench one and play Arteta to see how he settles, he's a quality player, absolutely stupid to not give him any time to see how he fits in with this new side.

I definitely wouldn't say we're playing better football without Arteta.. If he's fully fit he'll 100% start over Flamini.

Flamini will be useful against certain teams but not needed week in week out imo.

I didn't expect him to get his place at all, I'm still surprised AVB rates him. He tackles well but he's a terrible passer. Given the precedent, however, I'd now be surprised if he didn't keep his place for at least the next few games.

In terms of the long run, I don't expect him to keep his place - but I've been consistently wrong about that for a year or more. I think, and this is completely unscientific, that most Spurs fans think Kaboul is the better centre back, I don't know enough about Chiriches.

it is this. i described it as romanticism the other day. kaboul probably is the better centre back but only when 100% fit. similar to sandro, he has to play surely but is currently on the bench due to his own injury issues and replacements holding their own

Fantasy football scout daily hot topic

What's your policy for taking a hit to ensure you have at least one player on your bench?

With so many injuries at the moment many managers' benches are full of red and orange flags. Sure you may be able to field 11, but if another unexpected injury occurs is it worth taking a hit to ensure you have a back up. Or do you like to throw caution to the wind and hope for the best?

I took a hit to get in Brady two weeks ago, and although it didn't pay off that week - it did last week, and actually it's the only hit that's paid off for me in about 3 years.

i never do hit but this gw i was forced too do it cause off too manny injured players

      if i had decent starting 11 i wouldn't take those 4

think my team will benefit from this hit at long run as well

I take hits to field 11.

Could only field 8 this week so therefore on wc.

All my other hits have paid dividends

1 advantage with a points hit is that you can use the following week to use a different transfer. I have transferred Baines in for a hit for Toure. Over the next few weeks Baines should outscore Toure by more than 4 points. It is a long term transfer. I made a similar transfer bringing in Zab for a hit and that has paid off.

As for injuries if I had say 5 long term injuries as is possible this week. I would want to take a hit to transfer 2 of those out.

It also depends on the player out. If they are big hitters then making a transfer is more likely to pay off. No point taking a hit to bring a budget player in.

Given up with even bothering to count how many points hits I've taken this year.

Has the gameweek from hell last week after playing my wildcard. Made 8 changes to the squad, then had RvP, Walcott, Benteke and Bassong all go injured over the weekend. The only shining light was that I had transferred in Ramsey and Lukaku, but wasted my captaincy by handing it to HBA. :/

As I no longer care about my overall points totals, i've taken a 16 point hit this week to get in:

      RvP > Rooney
      Tekkers > Giroud
      Walcott > Özil
      Coloccini > Baines
      Bassong > Shaw

I'm sitting bottom of all my leagues anyway so it's not like it will make much difference!

kolo toure has meant i need another defender just in case. unfortunately this week that meant a hit.
it means if kolo plays though i have a strong back 4, if not then a more 'normal' 3-4-3

If a player is going to be out for a while (e.g. Walcott, Benteke and Koren for me this week) and I know that I have other issues in my team that will need to be looked at in the coming weeks (like Toure, Collins and Nolan) than I reluctantly take the hit as not doing the transfers will leave problems in future weeks. I do try and make sure that the players I'm putting in have good recent form and decent fixtures for the next few weeks though. The value of a hit has to be measured over the longer term if price rises and drops are involved - so is effectively impossible to calculate. I take too many hits, but I think many players take too few.

I don't bother too much with overall rank...in fact at all (don't even know where i am come to think of it)....I prefer the cat and mouse of just the mini league so in answer to the post it depends where i'm at. If i'm twenty points clear then i have a bit of slack...twenty points behind and i'd ride it out....Fifty points clear and i'm transfering for fun...

Hmm that price bracket is definitely tricky. Not sure about the rest of your team but the obvious picks are Ramsey (although injury doubt now), Mirallas (out of favour around here but will come good eventually), Moses, or Arnautovic. Or just go Brady/Whitts (probably the latter with the Brady news) and spend the extra cash elsewhere.

Any ideas though? I have been playing around a lot and I think they're the best two options. I'm not a fan of paying more than 6.0 for a defender if that helps, I'm not interested in Baines or Vert. My other two defenders are Turner and Coleman.
