Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

    Hey guys,

1 freebie this week, is it worth using? Without it and toure still being injured my defense would look like this:

    Jara, salcido, alcaraz.

Pretty lightweight I know. Maybe salcido can score since i doubt they'll keep a cleany!

VDV and Berbs, or N'Zog and Tevez? Really struggling on this one. I already have Berbs, and will be bringing in VDV or N'Zog this week (prefer N'Zog to Adam). VDV would need leave me enough to do Berbs > Tevez in the future, which I'm sure I will want to do after the next 3 gameweeks.

Hi guys, this is my team for the weekend:

      Foster,
      Elmo,O'Shea,Jara,
      Nani,Malouda,Nasri,VdV,Adam,
      Drogba(C),Tevez.

      Subs: Krul,Elmander,Coleman,Samba.

Is the starting XI right?I know Blackpool are away to Birmingham but I've still gone with Adam instead of Elmander as I trust him more to deliver.
Also,I'll be getting through this week without making any transfers as I played my WC last week,so for the next week I have 2 free transfers and I'm considering doing Nasri->Fabregas,Tevez->Berbs and VdV->Ferguson(or Tevez->Chamakh and VdV->N'Zogbia,which looks better atm) for a 4 pt. hit.Of course,it is with a heavy heart that I'll have to bid adieu to Tevez and VdV but you can't have Fabs AND those two guys along with all the other stars in the same team. The other option,to avoid a 4 pt. hit is to sell Malouda for Fabs and do Nasri->N'Zog,but I don't think it is worth it selling Malouda as I feel he is a season keeper.Don't know what to do guys. Please help.Any opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

      If you had Nasri:

      A) Would you try to get rid of him and get Fabregas in no matter how many hits

      B) Hang on to him and hope he does well over the next three weeks

        C) Keep Nasri and get Fabregas anyway

Not sure if you should do C) but it's certainly an option with WHM NEW wol coming up.

        I definitely wouldn't go with B)

It's not possible, too expensive. Even if I dump Alex for a 4.0 defender, I cannot make it work to bring in both Nani and VdV, unless I dump Tevez, Drogba, or Fabregas, which would be stupid for me to do.

Anyone thinking of Bent this week home to Villa? Villa haven't kept a clean sheet away, and Bent is the main scorer obviously for Sunderland. It would be a 4 point hit for me.

Some other intriguing stats for the Bent chances of scoring: Villa have let a lot of shots and chances go in the box (Bent scored all of his goals in the box). Bent's scored 3 penalties, and Villa have conceded the most fouls in the league so far.

surprised that not many have bent on this site. last season he was a must have imo for the early-mid season, the change in price this year might be why nobody has him now. people seem to think that berbs and tevez were better options at a similar price range, although tevez has since risen to 11mil so he's out of my radar.

No Toure is out so City wont be as strong at the back, besides it makes for a boring GW when you have 3 players from the same team.

I think the 11 points are a bit misleading for Brunt having seen the game against MU. Nevertheless, he is a great value player for 5-6 points a game.

Did Ancelotti say anything about his starting lineup against Wolves tomorrow?

      See heres the thing.

Is it too risky to (C) Cashley over both Drogba and Malouda? I was looking at Opta stats and it seems that Foley (Wolves right back, I didn't know) didn't make a single tackle in the 90 minutes he was on the pitch against West Ham and only. But then everyone else will be (C) Drogba, but I have that feeling y'know? Also he must be due a goal surely? Been playing really well of late. I will hope for a goal an assist a cleanie and 3 BP's I see it now. 18 points..... Decisions ............. Decisions ............

Foley didn't make a single tackle. How dare you talk about one of my key defenders like that!

Has anyone played Sky FF before? Basically you can make transfers during a gameweek but it is unclear how the scoring works. If you transfer out someone who played on Saturday and got 1 point for someone plays on Sunday and gets 2 points will the total for the two players be 2 points or 3. Help would be appreciated to clear this up for me.

Asked this earlier but didn't get any responses so thought I'd try again. This is my team for the weekend:

        Foster,
        Elmo,O’Shea,Jara,
        Nani,Malouda,Nasri,VdV,Adam,
        Drogba(C),Tevez.

        Subs: Krul,Elmander,Coleman,Samba.

Is the starting XI right?I know Blackpool are away to Birmingham but I’ve still gone with Adam instead of Elmander as I trust him more to deliver.
Also,I’ll be getting through this week without making any transfers as I played my WC last week,so for the next week I have 2 free transfers and I’m considering doing Nasri->Fabregas,Tevez->Berbs and VdV->Ferguson(or Tevez->Chamakh and VdV->N’Zogbia,which looks better atm) for a 4 pt. hit.Of course,it is with a heavy heart that I’ll have to bid adieu to Tevez and VdV but you can’t have Fabs AND those two guys along with all the other stars in the same team. The other option,to avoid a 4 pt. hit is to sell Malouda for Fabs and do Nasri->N’Zog,but I don’t think it is worth it selling Malouda as I feel he is a season keeper.Don’t know what to do guys. Please help.Any opinions are welcome. Thanks in advance and sorry for the long post.

Don't be sorry for the LONG post, change it so it is a bit more friendly to the eye, spaces/Paragraphs. It just puts you off like that....

            1. the starting XI is fine. i dunno about foster and krul, am struggling to choose between them for my keeper (see above)
            2. the second option is better, cos a) there is no ferguson, b) VDV and tevez are more important than malouda and c) there is no 4pt hit. IMO malouda blows hot and cold, he gets involved when chelsea score 6 but if they win 1-0 or 2-0 he will likely score 3pts max. also he gets rotated now that kalou is back

Thanks bro. Will still need some convincing to sell Malouda but at least you've given the push. And you are right, with Chamakh and Berbs not really taking the league by storm so far,Tevez deserves to stay, and VdV is pure fantasy gold.I might really end up selling Malouda,as crazy as it sounds.
