Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

    N’Zogbia v Adam

I am aware that a few of us want to get either N’Zogbia or Adam this week, with a view to playing them pretty much every week.

Like most of you, I will need to play whoever I bring in most weeks, as the rest of my midfield will be Nani, Malouda, Fabregas and Barton with Drogba and Tevez up front!

    So, here’s a few facts: -

    Next 10 Games

N’Zogbia – BOL ful bla LIV WBA mun whm STK eve AVL wol ARS
Adam – bir WBA EVE avl whm WOL bol MUN stk TOT LIV sun

Fulham, Blackburn, United, West Ham, Everton, Villa and Arsenal will probably all be low scoring for Wigan and I’m not convinced that N’Zogbia will get a big points haul in any of those games.
In effect, N’Zogbia owners will be hoping he performs v Bolton, Stoke and WBA.

Adam’s fixtures are slightly better I think – he should score points v WBA, Everton, and Wolves and there is certainly a chance in a few of the other games (Birmingham this week potentially too).

Another fact, Adam is .1 cheaper than N’Zogbia at the minute, which does make a difference. I have to trade Etherinton to N’Zogbia or Adam this week as I’m about .3 off being able to afford fabs next week.

Blackpool have scored twice as many goals as Wigan.

Adam has had 19 shots (7 on target) compared to N’Zogbia’s 10 shots (6 on target). Adam has also got 2 goals and 3 assists, compared to N’Zogbias 2 goals and 1 dodgy assist.

The bonus point war is 11 v 7.

My opinion is that if you need a player for this week only, get N’Zogbia, but for a long term player Adam looks the choice.

I think Ill be choosing Adam but its close, I think it will come down to who fits in better fixture wise within my team…

Nice analysis, i agree with you. They are both great options for the price. I wonder if N’Zog might get the penalty duties at Wigan in the near future?

Nice analysis cheggars but hasn’t adam played more games than nzogbia? surely it would be better to compare pts/gls/assists/bp’s per minute than total this season?

Copy to next page maybe if you think we can continue this thread as I think it could be very informative to those going for either of these players (I am not going for either btw just being a good citizen )

I didn't read all of it, but surely its an easy decision. Both of N'Zogbia's goals came in one game, so he's not the most consistent point scorer. Adam on the other hand is the heart and soul of Blackpool. He takes penalties and most of their set plays. I have had him for a few weeks now and he has been quality. He's also cheaper then Zog.

Also, to have that midfield, and those strikers, and nearly be able to afford Fabregas, the rest of your team must be TERRIBLE!

      But anyway, go for Adam

One small point that has perhaps been overlooked...

N'Zogbia may well be a Birmingham or even Liverpool player come Jan 11,

Whereas Adam will still be at Blackpool (and im thinkin they will have stumbled into relegation form by then).

Why is what might happen in several months time even worth considering? Fantasy football is all about what is happening right now – if a players circumstances change for whatever reasons, then you react to that, but right now both players are in good form making them both worthy additions to any team

Because its not "several" is it? its "two" months (and a week).

and in answer to a post where the next 10 games are referenced - it's worth considering.

It has nothing to do with planning 10 weeks ahead, the post is about making a choice between the two

              and states

"My opinion is that if you need a player for this week only, get N’Zogbia, but for a long term player Adam looks the choice."

you can turn the arguement against N'zogbia if you want by suggesting he may go abroad (but his current transfer status as a "wantaway" hasn't altered and is relevant when using a phrase like "long term")

Your logic is faulty. By comparing points for a player who has spent 50% more time on the pitch than another, you are missing an obvious trick.

Adam is clearly a bonus point darling at the moment but N'Zogbia has been one for about a year now. Look at points per minute and N'Zogbia edges it. Compare the teams and you'd have to be swayed by the fact that Wigan are a premiership team while Blackpool are new to the game and can we be sure that they have enough to maintain their start of season momentum. If I were to compare with the last two play-off promotees, Blackpool have more in common with Hull than Burnley but comparing to either would make for scary reading to anyone holding Adam.

Whether Wigan are any better is open to debate but you should at least compare like with like. Replace N'zogbia with Fabregas or Lampard then try to draw the same conclusion.

Well said Woy. To me adam is a bit like eagles or elliott at burnley last year. While thay did alright at the start and in patches it all went down hill after a good start.

I predit the wheels coming right off the bpool wagon in spectacular fashion and them to relegated by the seasons end.

In short I would go nzogbia but not delighted about either tbh. If you can afford that bit more go for ethers instead.

          Etherington? yuck!

I agree with you that Blackpools form is very likely to fall away but i don't think the comparisons between Adam and Eagles/Elliot are fair. Adam is a much better player than both those two plus he is guaranteed 90 minutes every week (which Eagles CERTAINLY wasn't). He also taken penalties and just about everything else

Fair points SuperDunny. I suppose you could say adam will easily do better than those two but I dont see him getting any more than 3.5ish per game average for the season.

Thats nearly half what he is running at currently and nzog should top that by .3pts-.5pts per game or so I would imagine.

Wow this pagination thing really sucks. Reminds me why I stopped posting here.

Is it too risky to (C) Cashley over both Drogba and Malouda? I was looking at Opta stats and it seems that Foley (Wolves right back, I didn’t know) didn’t make a single tackle in the 90 minutes he was on the pitch against West Ham and only. But then everyone else will be (C) Drogba, but I have that feeling y’know? Also he must be due a goal surely? Been playing really well of late. I will hope for a goal an assist a cleanie and 3 BP’s I see it now. 18 points….. Decisions …………. Decisions …………

Ancelotti's thoughts on Bosingwa are interesting. Just wondered whether he's "sexing it up".

Tomorrow Bosingwa will start from the beginning and this is very good news,' Ancelotti announced.
'Everyone is excited about seeing him play and I hope everything will be okay of him. After one year we have to be patient with him but he had a fantastic period of training and he is fit 100 per cent.'

Ancelotti describes Bosingwa as important player, in no small part due to the requirement for full-backs with a powerful burst of pace and physical resistance to the exertion involved in running up and down the line all game.

    Mignolet – Carson

    O’Shea – Alex – Foley – Elmohamady – Coleman

    Malouda – Bale – Fabregas – Barton – Dempsey

    Drogba – Tevez – Odemwingie

leaving me with the same 0.3 in the bank

      Thoughts?

    My team for GW9

    Foster
    Dann Elmohamady Konchesky
    Fabregas Bale Nani Nolan
    Drogba(C)Carroll Tevez

    Hahnemann Albrighton Shawcross Samba

    1) Is Bale worth keeping or transfer out? my only worry is there might be a chance of him being rested.

    2) Nolan > Brunt?

I remember reading Ancelotti talking about Bosingwa being ACole's twin on the right and do think he will be nailed should fitness follow.

Having Alex, I'm tempted; cheaper and possibly more attacking threat. Just wonder if he'll get 60 mins this week-end.

    Almunia --- Foster
    El Mohamady-- Alex--Toure--Vidic--Konchesky
    Nani--Malouda--Bale--Adam--Etherington
    Tevez--Carroll--Berbatov

Lampard averaged approx 8 points per game last year, Fabs was about 8.8 I think. Lampard played a lot more, so they total points doesn't tell the whole story. A fully fit Fabs is better than Lamps.

Yes....as a Gooner myself, I disagree with "Shahriyar" too....

Although Cesc is class - yea, world class - I have NEVER see him as a major goal-scoring midfielder. I can recall patches - like 10 matches in a row - when he has not scored. Compare that to the goal-scoring machine that is Lampard. Even Gerrard is more of a goal threat than Cesc !

Where Cesc scores well is assists, penalties, bonus points. But theh, Lampard gets all these too....

I have actually gone for Walcott as my Arsenal man. He will not play every match, but at 7m is real value. He will score more goals than Cesc from now until end of season too (he already has 4 goals in 2 and a bit games)

          🙂

Krul (away at West Ham) or Robinson (away at Liverpool) ?

I cannot decide....Robinson is a better keeper but cannot see BLK keeping clean sheet at Liverpool...

So I have Krul at the moment...I think NEW havs e better chance of clean sheet than BLK.....

    Comments ? 🙂

        Mmmmmmm...not sure about that logic.....

If BLK were at home I would certainly go Robinson, but I can actually see a big win (3 - 0) job to Liverpool...so for any "save" pts he gets, he will get minus points....

Whereas there is the possibility NEW could keep a clean at Upton Park...
