Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

Dembele trying to score vs Jara is not an Ideal situation,

Dembele scores +4 but Jara loses his clean sheet -4
Jara keeps a clean sheet +4 Dembele does nothing 2 points

I would play Coleman over Jara hoping for some attacking points.

Rooney, Rooney, Rooney! I've been saying that this whole kerfuffle is very similar to what John Terry did in the summer of 2009, with his flirting with Citeh. Not nice, but it happens when contracts are up for renewal.

Rooney hasn't gone about it the right way, obviously, but a large part of this can charitably be put down to his agent (Paul Stretford, who is a complete c**t) advising him badly.

As a Utd fan, I don't like the way he has behaved this past week (could not care less about the hookers, by the way, don't think any football fan cares about that kind of thing involving one of their own players), but I'm delighted he's staying.

Cheers, mate. There'll be people on here saying how greedy he's been, but 95% of professional footballers are greedy.

If you go into contract negotiations saying 'I love this club, I'll never leave', it doesn't put you in the best bargaining position. I wish the whole thing had played out behind closed doors, but there you go.

Maybe, but Terry could have put the nonsense to bed quite easily by saying he wanted to stay. Not saying he should have done that, but just comparing it to the Rooney situation.

Terry's flirting with Citeh happened in the summer, so he couldn't get dropped from games like Rooney has been, which obviously made the situation worse.

I'd play Coleman, but then again I fancy an Everton win at the weekend.

Out of the four I'd play Coleman, Barton, Morrison and Dann in that order. Dann only last because I don't like doubling up.

More for the long term than this GW...

    1) Berbatov and Malouda

    OR

    2) Tevez and up to £8m mid

It's doing my head in. I'm now leaning towards 2 as I have Chelsea coverage in Alex (soon to be Bosingwa) and Drogba and Man U in Nani. Do have YaYa too but he is getting sold soon.

Malouda may start to suffer from rotation I think and Tevez on pens but perhaps Berb will also be on pens?

Flirted with it, then flirted with giving the armband to Malouda. If he starts, he'll score more than Drogba.

But he probably won't start, so I'll captain the Ivory Coastian.

Why do you say he probably won't start? There has been nothing to suggest that so far today

All right, POSSIBLY won't start, which is enough for me to give the armband to someone else. Last thing I want is my captain coming on for a point in the 87th minute.

Oh, for f*ck's sake. I'll rewrite it:

If he starts, I think he'll score more points than Drogba.

          Happy?

Why not avoid all the fuss and doubts and just go Van de Vaart instead ? As I originally said 🙂 🙂

I have VDV, Drogba and Malouda...of all 3, VDV is most likely to play 90 mins...and home to Everton, I can see him being much involved...

If you don't have Drogba he's a great alternative

He'll be fresh, but the rest of his team wont be.

If you got points for number of shots, then I def would...

    REPOST again:

I would like some feedback gents

1 free transfer this week. Should I make a change?

    Mignolet – Carson

    O’Shea – Alex – Foley – Elmohamady – Coleman

    Malouda – Bale – Fabregas – Barton – Dempsey

    Drogba – Tevez – Odemwingie

Was thinking about Dempsey + Alex > Nani + Alcaraz

    What do you think?

    Cheers

I think Nani is a must-have, especially with no other Utd cover. Rooney signing his new contract will be a massive boost, to the fans and the players.

You might want to go for a Birmingham defender rather than Alcaraz - Wigan play quite attractive, attacking football under Martinez, whereas Birmingham play ugly, defensive football.

I always make sure I have 1 Birmingham defender / keeper in FPL.

I meant no other Utd attacking cover, I see you've got O'Shea.

Citeh - what do we think? Tevez & Ade to start (so Tevez goal threat diminished). Balotelli to replace one of them around the hour?

What am I having for lunch on January 26? And will I eat more apples than bananas next year?

After this gameweek Malouda>Fabs or Nasri. Or if i bring in Jones instead of Bosingwa i could do N'Zogbia>Nasri & keep Malouda
