Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

HBA > Paulinho worth a hit? Got HBA at 7 so the spare change will allow me to do Hazard > Walcott after the International Break even after Hazard falls to 9.1

    Thoughts?

That might be a decent long-term transfer. Wouldn't worry about future transfers, something will probably happen next week that'll throw your plans into disarray.

Ya Chelsea assets have been dissapointing, Hazard is certainly a class players but Chelsea have major issues and he's not worth the money. If it all works out then Theo is the man to get in, I'll be doing it myself when he's back to fitness.

So done 4pts to get Yaya and Ramsay in....finally.

Would you do anything further with this squad?

    Migs Boruc
Enrique Zabaleta Coleman Chester(i know) Burner
    Ozil Ramsay Yaya Brady Barkley
    Rooney Sturridge Giroud

.8m in bank. Would love Suarface and a Spurs player of some sort. Maybe to Enrique to Dawson and just about enough to upgrade Sturridge to Suarez (but i'd love to double S n S!!!!).

I am going hit bonkers this year early, to get some mega team value rolling, and basically just to enjoy myself. I think i've done it all pretty well so far and am lingering right off the 300k mark ready to pounce.

Had a 69 pt week and am happy with that. Thanks to Brady, Barkley, Rooney and Sturridge I am sitting pretty.

    Thanks.

My Forwards/Midfield is set, and I have 1 FT. Should I use it to shore up my defense?

Currently have Zabaleta, Evra, Koscielny, Shaw, and Chester at the back. 0.3 In the Bank. Thinking of moving one of Zaba/Evra/Kos for someone like Walker or Davies to free up some cash.

Is it worth it or should I keep the FT?

if you were on a WC now, how many 5mil midfielders would you get and which one? (players that started 5mil)
I would get 3 and bench 1 each week. 1) Amalfitano 2) Brady 3) Whittingham

Tbo, I can see why the Lukaku wagon hasn't been delayed til next week. Monster performance, cheap as chips, nailed on now it seems (should bleeding well be), and all that.

    More importantly...

We ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS have a tough match v Everton, and lose most the Ruddy time!

I may have to consider Lukaku tonight to get the rises in. ML leaders all have him already.

What to do though, with Rooney Giroud and Sturridge. Too many striking options all of a sudden!!!

Manchester City vs Everton Home Record:

      2012/13 = 1-1
      2011/12 = 2-0
      2010/11 = 1-2
      2009/10 = 0-2

Everton have lost 1, drawn 1 and won 2. Everton much more attack this season,
City defence is not the best, especially with the flapping seal Hart in net. Lukaku (C) next week.

So a wee bit of advice would be kindly appreciated. Replacement for Benteke? Or hold him until after int break and replace HBA this week? I have 5.2m in the bank and my team is:

    Migs, Lewis

    Coleman, B.Turner, Dawson, Wilson, Chester

Barkley, Ramsey, Michu, Eriksen, Ben Arfa

    Sturridge, Giroud, Benteke

My gut reaction is Lukaku for Tekkers, but that does mean doubling up on Everton attack, which I don't usually do or advise.

If i was to hold Tekkers, i'm looking at Nani, Mata and Brady (lol) for Hba.

I appreciate Barkley is a budget option, but tbh, looking at it objectively, he is in form and 4th highest scoring mid in the game. I expect that to change, but until then, he has to play imo.

I don't usually double up on attacks, due to the way bonus works and spreading your potential for maximum points. But I did it with Ramsey and Giroud, due to form, so might do the same with Everton.

Dislike breaking my own rules though 🙂

I've looked at him. Bit uncomfortable that he has not scored from open play yet.

Lovely fixtures, but i'm not totally there yet tbh. Lukaku, Benteke and Sturridge, Suarez have showed more in 2013 .

Could be a blind spot for me though, maybe i'm not fully appreciative of Rooney.

Paulinho or Siggy for Spurs cover?

    Paulinho = more nailed

    Siggy = more attacking

    What to do?

I would say Paulinho is more attacking, Siggy is just more successful, so far.

Bit harsh hijacking Quimby's post JK

Probably keep tbh. Should start vs Cardiff. Unless you've got enough £ for Michu

To Barkley or Brady owners. Should they now be considered genuine 4th mids or at least be regular starters in a rotation system? I'm sick of seeing points lost on the bench.

I think Barkleys cemented position as attacking mid for a top six side merits him a 7.5 price tag... Great option whom I'll be getting soon

Yes. They are 4th mids and should be played as such. I have Barkley and that is his spot to lose.

Yes I'd like to buy in Brady and have two budget mids possibly rotating them according to fixtures. The difficult thing is the knowing what to do with the spare cash. Lukaku is looking awesome for 7.6 and the defences are probably going to concede more regularly now making an expensive D less viable.

Hard to say abt Brady as he havent scored from an open play yet plus fixtures after this week arent great either...Barkley would be defntly beneficial with Lukaku's inrtoduction...i would suggest play them unless and until they face a Top 6 side

Yeah I'm with you I think. Its definitely time to start Barkley more regularly. Can no longer afford to consider him bench fodder.

Shipping either HBA or Hazard to Paulinho for a hit...

HBA: bought at 7 so even if he falls to 7.4 I can still sell next week for 7.2 correct?

Hazard: bought at 9.5 and is dropping to 9.1

The latter is the priority, right?

I don't think selling Giroud(wba) for Lukaku(mci) presumably for a hit is a good idea.

I know it's a risk but I'm a form over fixtures guy and tho Gru is in form Lukaku at that price is sensational. It's a long term move as short term it makes no sense.

But as you say Giroud is on form. It doesn't make sense to get rid even for another on form player especially for a hit and a worse fixture.
