Romelu Lukaku flexes his substantial Fantasy football muscles to wreck the Newcastle defence and leave us re-assessing our forward lines yet again. Meanwhile, the withdrawal of Hatem Ben Arfa and a transformed second-half showing from Newcastle has his owners hovering over the panic button.

The Game Changer

Lukaku simply ran riot in the first half with the Newcastle back four unable to cope with his pace and power. Having transformed and won the game at Upton Park from the bench, this evening, the Belgian dismantled the Magpies with a brace and an assist that put the game out of reach.

We shouldn’t be surprised by Lukaku’s impact. We saw last season that, when he is given pitch time, he can deliver, with 17 goals from just 20 league starts at West Brom. Jose Mourinho may feel that his game is not refined enough for the Chelsea squad but Lukaku has nonetheless proved to be hugely effective on the Premier League stage.

Fantasy managers now have to carefully consider their front lines. Lukaku at 7.6 and rising in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) will clearly represent outstanding value if he can replicate the strike rate shown at the Hawthorns. On tonight’s evidence, there’s every chance he can achieve that and more, putting further pressure on the three slots in our squad.

The Underused

It seems almost folly to discuss yet another option up front but we shouldn’t ignore Loic Remy’s late goal which left the Goodison nerves jangling. Three goals in three starts underline the Frenchman’s impact that, while less explosive than Lukaku’s at Everton, has been no less effective.

Available in the same FPL price bracket, Remy’s performance will likely be overlooked but, having been shifted to a central role in place of Papiss Cisse tonight, it’s clear that Remy will, quite literally, be central to their aspirations this season.

The Selection Poser

Hatem Ben Arfa’s withdrawal at half-time took everyone by surprise and yet, minutes later, his replacement Yohan Cabaye, scored from range to hand the Magpies an unlikely lifeline. Despite attempting to focus play through Ben Arfa in the first half, Alan Pardew took the decision to replace him with the more combative Cabaye for the second period and the change appeared to pep up the visitors as they came close to an unlikely comeback.

The reason behind the change is uncertain. Certainly Alan Pardew gave no indication of an injury in his post-match comments, leaving Ben Arfa’s owners frustrated at the curtailed pitch time and somewhat anxious that the mercurial winger may have fallen out of favour ahead of the Gameweek 7 trip to Cardiff. We await further noises from St James’ Park.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

What are people's thoughts on Lukaku?

    - How much Premier League game time do people expect him to play?
    - There's already a lot of options up front in fantasy football, so who's the one to be dropped if people are getting Lukaku in?
    - Will he match or exceed his goals and assists compared to last season?
    - Can this be the year of the Belgians fantasy football wise with Mignolet, Vertonghen, Benteke and Lukaku all already performing well, and with Kompany, Hazard and Mirallas expecting to perform well. Maybe even Chadli or Fellaini

He'll play 90 mins most games if his form stays good. He'll exceed last years FF tally cos he'll be supplied by Coleman, Pienaar, McCarthy, Barkley, Baines, Mirallas etc, better players than West Brom had supplying him last year and better players for him to assist and because he gets better each season.

Had a nice surprise when I just logged in and didn't know Collins hadn't played, and got M Turner's clean sheet to push me over 60. Nothing special but put a smile on my face after what has been a poor start overall. Also Ramsey earning .6 and two goals since I bought him has been nice.

Sorry, I misunderstood. Get Lukaku now. Everton's main striker, great value.

Was just making the point (badly!) that the others are more expensive than those 3, bar Benteke, and getting those 3 leaves cash for elsewhere.

I was also thinking of Chico, but looking at Swansea defenders statistics I'm going to choose Davies. He's the most attacking defender and has had the most touches in the final third. But Chico has had more shots than him. Also Davies beats Chico when comparing bonus point system points per minute, even if you take away his two goals!

The amount of knee jerking! Sigh..
Barfa does not need to go. Newcastle were trailing 3-0 at half time cause that bellend yanga had the worst game of his life so Pardew wanted to tighten up and prevent an embarassing scoreline is all! Barfa does not defend and would not help him do so.. i'm pretty sure Pardew had given up on gettin any points out of the game and was just tryin to control things. The commentators said it was purely tactical and he was not injured.
Mirallas had a good game until the 30th or so minute when he winced after takin a corner. Slowed down totally after that and looked in pain throughout the game. Wanted to come off at half time but martinez persisted with him. He is nailed on and Deulofeu(who is still not ready to start imo) will take Osman's(why is he playing) place if he starts. Gotta wait and see the Mirallas injury news b4 decidin what to do tbh
Coleman was Man of the match and the most attackin player @ Everton yesterday apart from Lukaku. Yet people are getting rid! :sigh:
Last night ppl were swapping giroud for Lukaku, choosing lukaku over captain option suarez this week, even swappin roonpig!! I agree he's a good option but the 2nd half has been totally forgotten on here. It was more that Yanga had a horrid game than lukaku having a brillliant game. He will score goals but do not disrupt your team for him!
Barkley on the other hand i cannot ignore anymore. Will get him in next week as i dont wanna take a hit this week with city away.
    Good morning 🙂

Very good post. Lukaku is a very good 3rd striker option but that is what he is the 3rd striker. Barkley also looks a good option. I might belatedly jump on that bandwagon next week. I would be more concerned by Bem Arfas fixtures than his substitution.

I agree with everything in this statement apart from holding on to HBA, I've had him a few weeks myself and in all that time have been debating swapping for Barkley and after watching the pair in action last night and last week, I would rather have someone who is involved all the way through the game to give me some excitement rather than an explosion once a month. Therefor, HBA > Barkley done last night.

    Morning dz

Giroud => Lukaku for gw8, anyone with me?

Real shame we have international break then tough, risky to do early transfer, but likely 0.3 price hike for Lukaku during break, needs to be avoided too..

Original plan was Eriksen => Ramsey for gw8 (if Eriksen blanks) and triple on Arsenal for few weeks, but now it looks like I will have on Ozil then. Things change quickly!

A thought on taking hits. I'm generally against it because I struggle to score points and am loath to sacrifice them. However, sometimes, it can be worth the risk.

For example, I swapped Walcott (0), Benteke (0), and Welbeck (0) for Captain Lukaku (32), Suarez(13), and Oscar(2).

I went Benteke to Suarez first, so I took the hits to get in Oscar for Walcott and Lukaku for Welbeck (who was not actually injured, so in theory this was less necessary).

It paid off to the tune of 32+2-8 = 26 points.

Lambert has said Benteke will be out for 4-6 weeks, which means he could be back for game week 9, 10 or 11. He's already fallen to £8.9m, and will probably lose more value between now and when he returns. He'll definitely be going into my squad especially if he falls any lower in value with these fixtures:

I have sturridge Saurez and Giroud

Personally Giroud and Saurez are not going out of my team, Sturridge might become Saldado/Aguero/Lukaku/Benteke anytome 🙂

        Have
        Migs, Boruc
        Terry, Ivan, Coleman, Walker, Collins,
Michu, Ramsey, Eriksen, Ben Arfa, JWP
        Suarez, Studge, Lukaku

Have already taken a 4 point hit to get Walker and Suarez, after this weeks games who do you reckon the best midfielder to replace barfa will be? Have 0.9 in the bank.

I brought in Arnautovic for a hit for the game week just gone (call me crazy) but I'm tempted to transfer him to Barkley. Any suggestions?

I would keep him. I want to get him in myself. He looks great value.

I also want Amalfitano though. So many players. So few slots.

Yeah I know, obviously not this week. Fulham have some weird stat where they've conceded at least one goal in so many home games. So I'd want to play him.
