Sitting pretty in sixth place in the Premier League, West Brom have surprised the majority of people with their positive and refreshing approach since the beginning of the season. While it’s been frontman Peter Odemwingie who has gathered most of the headlines, the last few gameweeks have seen Chris Brunt really make his mark for the Baggies.

With most expecting Graeme Dorrans to be the star man in Roberto di Matteo’s midfield at the start of the season, Brunt, initially, did nothing to disprove this theory with a mere six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in his first three games, but since then, he has not just been the best points scorers in West Brom’s midfield, but one of the best in the league overall.

Brunt’s last five games read 6,5,6,5,11, which includes him picking up the maximum 3 Bonus Points in each of his last two games. He has bagged 1 goal so far and is second only to Nani in terms of assists, with 5 to his name already. Sitting on 39 pts, Brunt, priced at just £5.5m and owned by only 2% of managers, is sixth overall in the game in terms of “value“.

Pretty much a permanent fixture in the side, he has missed just 13 minutes of the season so far and seems to be the Baggies chief set-piece taker, as well as taking the odd penalty, too. A look at his home and away tallies shows there is no difference to Brunt’s output. He has 18 points at the Hawthorns and 21 points on the road; given that West Brom’s four away games have been at Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Man United, that’s a considerably impressive haul.

Brunt stacked up a points total of 121 in the 2008/09 campaign that saw his club relegated, but this time round Di Matteo’s tactics and personnel look like giving West Brom a far greater chance of survival, which is illustrated in the fact that with just eight games gone, Brunt has already picked up a third of that total.

With (FUL, blp, MCY, whm, wig, STK) up next for the Baggies, there’s no reason for any prospective Brunt owners to doubt his upcoming potential returns, given that he approaches Gameweek 9 off the back of an 11 point performance at Old Trafford.

sold Alex for Mummy before I found out that Davies was injured, so is Davies to N'Zog/Adam worth a 4p hit? I've been thinking of getting rid of him for weeks.....but I don't like to take hits! This would be the first four this season....

Taking injured players out when you have no bench cover is always worth it IMO

especially if your getting in Elmo and a solid midfielder.

No. If it was a big hitter like Drogs against cannon fodder like Wolves then yes. But I wouldnt waste 4 pts on N'Zog/Adam.

        + 1

Malouda likely to get some game time, even if benched could come on and join the party.

Play your 3 4 3 that should be playing and save your 4 points, gambling on Adam or Nzog getting more than 5 points doesn't seem like good odds to me. Even if they get a goal that is only 7 points total. Take off the 4 point hit and the one point min for Malouda and you are looking at a 4 pt gamble for a best likely outcome of a two point gain.

    Robinson

    Cole, Dann, Coleman

    Malouda, Nani, VDV, Bale

    Drogba, Tevez, Carroll

    (Jara, Albrighton, Foley)

already used my transfer, but contemplating 4 pt hit

looking to take out Malouda for Fabs next week, and take Bale and Foley out for Adam and Elmo in the near future. With news of bale possibly resting, and the fact that i have VDV, would you bring in Adam or Brunt for a hit. Or i could take a hit next week as well and have EVERYONE i want, and bring in elmo now for a better defence and stronger bench. then do Malouda/Bale out Fabs/Adam in next week.

I realize this is similar to an earlier post, but I really dont know what to do about this one. Can i roll with this lineup as is or are there too many risks?

Whoever answers my inquiry honestly and thoughtfully will score 100 points this week, my gift to you.

Albrighton and Jara are good back-up. No need for a hit, especially on unfounded rumours of someone being dropped.

Mind you if Cole, Malouda and Bale are rested then you will find yourself with Foley in your starting XI, which could hurt.

O'Shea was rested for Europe but Bosingwa has been praised and will start too.

I'd go with Bosingwa, Utd's defence is shaky.

Was just thinking about bringing him in, either for cole to use the monet elsewhere, or double up on Chelsea defence since they seem to be the best shout for clean sheets.

Bit cautious though, anyone else have any thoughts? I've used my wildcard this week so ideal for tinkering...

can't afford to keep both? i'd wait and make sure bosingwa cements a starting spot before doing that.

I've just noticed that I'm the only person in one of my leagues who has Drogba (out of 9 players) almost everyone else has Tevez... did I miss the newsflash that he has died or something?

Drogba has been confirmed to start and should bang in a few against the howlers of Wolves.
