We bring Gameweek 7 under the microscope this evening to highlight some of the most significant statistics from the weekend’s action. Newcastle’s in-form forward, United’s young pretender, Liverpool’s front two and Swansea’s attacking threat are amongst a number of stand-out statistical selections across Saturday and Sunday’s matches:
Team is
boruc
zab williams coleman
Ozil michu eriksen barkley
Giroud sturridge lukaku
Mcgregor ramsey dawson burner
Subs ok or swap ramsey and eriksen?
1ft 2.5 in the bank.think im going to save it but not sure who to captain?xOpen ControlsSave FT, play Ramsey over Erik, captain Giroud or Lukaku.
Open ControlsWow, serious benching dilemma. Not sure ramsey on the bench is the best thing to do, but again not too sure who else to drop! (c) michu or lukaku.
Open Controls
So all the people here do not need to sleep?
Open Controls- Knowing when to get rid
I have been thinking about the factors that weigh into a decision to dump a player.
I kept soldado for 3 blanks before dumping, Rooney and hba kicked to the curb after one blank. A lot still have RVP, after a run of 2,1,6,0,1,2. Some are looking to dump Ramsey after one blank following an incredible run.
For me, it comes down to history and some players I just don't trust, sometimes irrationally, due to being burnt by them before.
Are there players that you will dump quickly, or others you will hold on to past all reason?Open ControlsIf you ditch a player after one blank, it feels like you shouldn't have bought that player in the first place. Either that or fixtures took a turn for the worse, I dunno.
It depends on tons of factors, I believed in Soldado and Spurs to start putting away some chances with their great fixtures, so I held on to him, but now that he didn't get a start it's too risky and I've dumped him.Open ControlsThis. I do feel like I have kicked Rooney too soon, but I have never had him in my team for more than a week or two. As soon as I see he looks disinterested I kick his ugly butt out of my team.
Open Controls
Patience is key in this game. The trick is to know when to get a certain player.
Last season was pretty easy, just hold on to the main man (Mata, RVP, Walcott, Suarez for example) because the whole team is very dependent on him; a bad week is just a one-off occasion, the big guy will deliver almost instantly.
This year is a different story. A lot of non FPL-gold players are taking the limelight (Giroud, Ramsey, Coleman, reborn Siggy, etc.) which make things a bit harder for us.Open ControlsGood points. At what stage do we consider Giroud a keeper? I still get the feeling that one more blank he will be sold in droves. I suppose it also comes down to what other options are scoring consistently, eg lukaku.
Open ControlsWhen he puts on gloves and punches at crosses?
Seriously though, it's about other options for me. If a player isn't performing, but another player in a different position or price range is really worth getting in, I might keep the non-performer and ship a average performer instead, if you see what I mean.
There are also other factors. I want to get Lukaku for Giroud, but I know that Benteke is also coming back, and I still think Sturridge's output will dwindle. So I'd rather wait and see at the moment. Especially since it's Football Prohibition weeks.
Btw, I do realize you started this discussion only because you are pondering Giroud → Lukaku for a hit 😉Open ControlsClose, I knee jerked rooney for lukaku 😉
Open Controls
I think you need to have the right balance between being patient with certain players and being quick to get certain players in. Strikers are in a demanding position and I think if they aren't performing they need to go pronto because there are many strikers who are. Soldado and RVP should have been sold weeks ago and I don't understand the patience of some managers for players who have been under performing for so long.
Open Controlsi agree strikers are more likely to be sold because they can repay your transfer with one goal, and plenty more upside potential. defenders surely have lower turnover.
Also I'm more likely to give "keen" strikers like Lukaku or Benteke game time, rather than moody playmakers like rooney or ben arfaOpen Controls
Very interesting pseudo-fact you raise here.
Because of Suarez' extreme ineffectivity his first season, and having been burnt by him before (in addition to him being a despicable player) I did the huge mistake of dumping him before the Christmas period last year. My season sort of ended there.
I was confident of dumping HBA before this GW, that I even took a hit (which worked out fairly well). He's back to his old self, was my reasoning.Open ControlsIt all comes down to predicting future returns, not looking at paterns in past returns. Underlying stats are very useful in this case but of course should be used along with other things as the basis a decision.
Soldado's stats have been very promising, hence many holding. Now he has been effectively dropped, his future play-time is too risky, so I will look to shift.
Lambert on the other hand looks safe to hold onto. His stats have also been good but he still looks nailed-on and I expect him to match the likes of Lukaku and Remy over the coming weeksOpen ControlsHe barely got an hour on Saturday. Gone for Lukaku in my team just on how potent the latter looks and his link up play with Barclay...
Open Controls
Team looks ok?
Mignolet
Terry / Baines / Dawson
Barkley / Michu / Whittingham / Özil
Lukaku / Suárez (vc) / Giroud (c)
Lewis / Clyne / Turner / BradyOpen ControlsJust checked out the highlights from all 20 gamesf rom the last 2 weeks and Wow there has been some absurd/shocking referring decisions..
Some of the penalty/no-penalty decisions, The decision on the Southampton ruled out goal (Mike Dean again after last week's Torres Red)
I hope atleast these are just incompetent refs and not a CalciopoliOpen ControlsNo.. I like the Dutch National Team, is that a connection??
Open Controls
- Is it wrong to double up on Strikers?
Re people not doubling up on liverpool strikers... Why? I've seen it said time and time again.
I do not understand the logic at all. I heard someone say "they won't both score every week"... Indeed but you can say the same for any combination of strikers. Nobody is going to score every week and definitely no combination of 2 strikers!
Why does the fact they play for the same team make any difference to their expectation?
Fact: Whether you have Suarez, Rooney or Margaret Thatcher in your team, Sturridge will still get the same points over the season! Sturridge cannot see your FPL team - His output is independent of your FPL team's 'balance'!
I am pretty sure I have failed to explain my point of view 😀Open ControlsI am with Sturridge and Saurez
and its good I am a liverpool fan as well. Kudos to 3 goals every week 🙂Open ControlsFor them both to succeed at the optimum level (and not take points off each other), Liverpool will need to score enough goals for the both of them.
Open ControlsThis ^^^. Ryan is nearly there ... 😉
Open Controls2 possibilites
A: liverpool score fewer goals
=> Suarez AND Sturridge's output will be expected to decline.
B: they score more goals
=> Suarez AND Sturridge's output will be expected to increase.
If you think A, buy neither
If you think B, buy both!
While the fix are good and the form is good, I think B personallyOpen Controls
Nonetheless, you are beholden to the outcome of ONE match, so you automatically reduce the PROBABILITY of goals ... that is why defenders sometimes work.
Open ControlsIt might be early in the morning, but I'm not sure I understand this.
If Suarez has 1.8 odds to score and Sturridge has 1.9 while Giroud has 2.0, the best combo here would be Suarez + Sturridge, right?Open ControlsNo. You are looking at them in isolation. Work out the odds for LIVERPOOL to score, then halve that, or whatever.
Open ControlsThey are isolated though, aren't they? The odds for them to score individually depends on the odds for LFC to score.
The fact that you have 2 prolific goalscorers in one team that hog most of the goals shouldn't affect the decisions to get both, but in theory it could hurt both players' points individually compared to a team having just 1 player hogging the goals. So far though, doesn't seem to be a problem. Suarez coming back -> LFC scores more -> more points to go around for both.Open ControlsI agree with you completely dogba.
Open Controls
Dogba is correct.
Doosra - you can't start halving odds just because two of them play for the same team. Would you halve Giroud's odds to score because you own Mertesacker? Suarez and Sturridge's odds of scoring are comletely independent of each other.Open Controls
Yes if they fail to score... but equally if liverpool score MORE goals you INCREASE the PROBABILITY of goals. 😀 (excuse caps I'm copying you haha)
So what you're saying is there is increased variance on individual gameweeks. Personally I don't care about individual gameweeks, only final rank.Open ControlsSilly. You are playing into the bookies hands. How often does ANY team score two or more?
Open ControlsHow often does any combination of 2 strikers from 2 different teams both score a goal in the same week?
Open ControlsI would disagree. Very few players were as prolific as suarez+sturridge when they played together last season.
Open ControlsBut the main guy from two different teams will get more opportunities than two guys in the same team.
Open ControlsWhich is why Liverpool will need an extremely high goal rate. Think of Benteke and Giroud and how many chances they could get in comparison to Suarez and Sturridge.
Open ControlsIf Benteke and Giroud are better options than Suarez and Sturridge, then you should have those two instead of Suarez and Sturridge, go without LFC strikers, completely agree. Again, look at the players individually.
LFC doesn't need an extremely high goal rate, you don't need both Suarez and Sturr to score 1 or more goals every game for doubling to be a good option. Plus, their individual goal involvement % is sky-high so far 😮Open Controls
Well this is the big question. With fixtures and form being what it is now, Sturridge and Suarez are right up there with the lowest odds to score, and the last two GWs have proved that it's not without reason.
I'm not getting Suarez + Sturridge though, not because it's not a viable tactic but because I can't spare the FTs (have 3 LFC already with Moses).Open ControlsFixtures and form is the only thing that might justify the double up. If they are predicted to score goals for fun over a certain period then that might justify the double up but they will need to hit that high goal rate. I don't think its worth the risk because you are banking on them to score loads of goals which isn't guaranteed by any means.
Open Controls
That is true for one gameweek and if you care about H2H games then it's a problem.
But most of us care only about the whole season. If they each score once in alternate weeks, they'll be the top two strikers.Open ControlsBut ... they won't ...
Open ControlsWhatever, you get my point. It's perfectly possible for two of the top scoring players to come from the same team. Rooney and Valencia or Aguero and Silva a few years ago. Mata and Hazard last year. Quite possibly Walcott and Giroud this year.
If you believe that both players are good options then owning one doesn't affect the output of the other long term. If, on the other hand, you believe that they will share points then you are saying that neither is a good option, which is a different argument.
They don't have to score in the same gameweek for the combination to be worth having longer term. So again, if you don't care about H2H then doubling doesn't stop you having lots of points in the long term.Open Controls
This exactly.
Open Controls
You are spot on that their output is independent, but the odds of them both scoring are less than the individual odds of them scoring. I may have explained that badly too...
Open ControlsI don't see a problem doubling up either. Right now though, I just don't have the transfers and I'm perfectly happy with my strikeforce of Lukaku, Sturridge and Giroud. However I'd easily take in Suarez (and double with Sturr) before I took in Rooney.
If Sturridge and Suarez are the 2 best strikers to own (that's how it's looking right now to me), then getting both makes sense. Judge each player individually.Open ControlsBecause we've all got sound strike forces and torrid midfields, I doubt many forward transfers other than lukaku in (to free up money) are happening here.
Open ControlsI have both for now.
Open ControlsI have S and S and they will stay up front.
Open ControlsI don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but theres also the likelihood of a player scoring 2 goals to factor in. I like to aim big. Rooney and Giroud both netting 2 in different games seems far more likely in my eyes than Suarez and Sturridge netting 2 each in the same game. Over the season this will even out of course but I want the combination with the best chance of scoring maximum points each week.
Open ControlsI think as long as the target is to score as many poins as possible until the end of the season and you only want to go with one Liverpool defensive slot, then there is no reason not to get both Studge and Suarez.
Those who argue otherwise are missing one key fact, which you mentioned in your post: their respective FPL points totals are completely independent of your FPL team selection. If you think they will be among the top 3-5 scoring strikers in any given period, then I can't see why you can't target both. You can always sell one/both of them if that changesOpen Controlsagree completely. it's a superstition / myth like coverage among some fpl players
Open ControlsThis reply probably wont be seen, as I have just seen the Hot Topic, but I would like to add my own view.
Firstly, I have failed to see in any of the replies the logic that 1 goal can involve both players FPL points wise (i.e. one assist the other). From the little evidence that we have seen so far, this may well be a common occurrence. Compare to say Arsenal, where many of the goals/assist are shared amongst Giroud and the Arsenal midfield.
I played my WC in GW7, and decided to get Suarez and Lukaku in, meaning I had to sell two out of Giroud, Sturridge and Rooney. Rooney was an obvious choice for me, but I decided to sell Giroud and go SAS, based on my belief that Arsenal goals will be shared amongst more players and ultimately Giroud will score less than Sturridge.
Another point on the double striker coverage is that if Pool score a goal, you are more likely to have someone involved in the goal, so there is a kinda reverse logic.
Another reason behind my choice is obviously short term good fixtures, and the ability to sell one for a returning Benteke in a few weeks.Open Controls
Anyone else on wc?
Any initial drafts for best team?Open Controlswhy did you pull wc?
i was thinking about it 3mins but decided to do Soldado-Lukaku and save WCOpen ControlsHave you signed up for the beach ball thingy Forca ?
Open ControlsWc because Ben arfa soldado Brady Chester zab cech - all had to go
Also team value - two weeks will make me at least 6 double risers - needed to catch JZ and lukaku and others.
Gw7 is also a perfect balance between start of the season and the winter wc, and team value is now or never - wc after winter break is less profitable because many casuals lose interest so you can make too much money.
Also, was tilting 🙂Open Controlsnice , my TV sucks badly but at least i get rid of soldado and get lukaku in so i made 0.6M swing just on that transfer
i'll probably save WC for some dgwsOpen ControlsYou are right - ideally I would save it. But I was patient for 7 weeks, building value with little hits and decent team, but this season is crazy - I have a feeling the likes of Ramsey and other cheapies will soon make way to Michu walcot Oscar hazard silva wall etc. and I think team value will be important soon - also as much as you are patient, being 900k in the world after gw7 is not exactly the game plan...
Open Controls
Depends,
What players are you looking to keep? Key players you would like to build your team around?
One of many WC drafts:
Boruc (Lewis)
Baines Terry Dawson (Clyne Faye)
Ozil Michu Oscar Amilfitano ( Morrison)
Rooney Lukaku Giroud.
Despite the argument against Amilfitano, I still think he could be a decent FPL option, watched the last 2 West Brom games, and he looked great. He's on all set pieces as well, I think 😉Open ControlsA horrible negative to that side : No Suarez/Sturridge.
But Clyne can easily be downgraded, which would provide funds to upgrade Rooney > Suarez.
Or Rooney can be downgraded to Sturridge, and Amilfitano could be upgraded to Paulinho, if the budget allows.Open ControlsAnd would have Wally in for Ozil, if he's fit before GW 8
Open Controls
Nice - a few comments:
-No pool striker at all is suicide IMO - Rooney can be grumpy elsewhere - you need a pool attacker
-Morison is massive rotation risk - Brady if back soon is better
-Ideally boruc vorm is the best combo IMO - from the money you saved on Rooney you can afford it now.Open Controls
In my opinion:
Boruc Clyne Barkley Lukaku are great value
Michu Ozil/Walcott Oscar heavy hitting mids
Suarez or Sturridde up top
Terry a good shout too and the rest are pick n' mix I feelOpen Controls
who rotating best with Stoke?
thinking about idea to possibly keep Arnie and find him good rotation par
core of my team is :
Ming
Terry , Kosh , Walker
Ozil , Michu , Eriksen
Sturridge , Lukaku , Giroud
more less i am happy with my team
obviously Eriksen and Kosh need to prove themself fast but fixures are nice and i am willing to wait
dont have any idea how could i improve my team anymore so i might finally get rid of dead-wood Williams and get some players who will rotate with Arnautovic
what do you think?Open ControlsWest Ham. Me? 😉
Open ControlsMaybe Morrison?
p.s do you like too see Petric playing?Open ControlsNo.
Open Controls... or Diamé?
Open Controlslooking for somone more atacking
i'd get Nolan but he is kinnda expesiveOpen Controls

Open Controlscheers TW , maybe Pilkington or snoddy
Open Controls
Still think i need to do Arnau > Oscar? All my 8 attackers are playing at home next week..
Migs
Baines Dawson Wilson
Ozil Michu Barkley Arnautovic
Rooney Gioroud Lukaku
(Lewis Ravel Fonte Faye)
1 more FT, 3.3 itb.Open ControlsGuys what do you think about this team..I have 0 FT but I feel that mid defence needs some work
Migs
Evra Zab Dawson Ward Collins
Michu Ramsey Silva Brady R.Morrison
Stuuridge Giroud RooneyOpen ControlsI was thinking Terry for Zabaleta..
Open Controls
Mid doesnt need work, its what i wanted actually
Def doesnt need work too.
And that attack is as good as any.
Wait are you just showing off? (kidding)Open ControlsHaha..Nopes , but Bradys injury scenes plus R Morrison being a punt singing is putting some doubts in my head..
Open Controls
Christina why don't you just go ahead and reveal the last two signings that you made probably weeks ago?
Open Controlsi dont like this sort of trash talk
seems like UEFA chounchil is allowed to have double standards while others are not
totally unfair and immature
people calling Christina cheater and true cheaters hiding behind Counchill chairOpen Controlsseems all like a repeat of the windies last time around, making loads of signings before the window even opened
which council members do you think are cheating forca?Open Controlsdont wanna say names , but it's more than obvious
how could i know about tournament week before than is officialy launched?
and how could i recive offers from different teams as well?Open ControlsNot quite true, last time recruitment was allowed by email before it was on the site. The windies didn't cheat, they just got whooped 😉
Open Controls
Sorry Forca but that's nonsense. Christina broke the recruitment date and refuses to add his players to the spreadsheet.
Open Controlsothers did as well , i know for fact
Open ControlsAre you sure it wasn't just captains that were hired?
Everyone else has disclosed their current teams.Open ControlsCome on guys, not sure we need long posts about this topic on here.
Open Controlsto be fair i prefer this posts more than your league updates 😆
Open Controls
not only Capitans , i know what i am talking about....
Open Controls
...because I'm not sure I want them.
Open Controls
Well done Carshalton Athletic (managed by dogba). Remember this name boys they'll be on a cup run!..
Open ControlsTeam at weekend was
Mig/Harper
Toure/Dawson/Murner/Shaw/Coleman
Hazard/Ramsey/Michu/Barfa/Brady
Suarez/Rooney/Giroud
Already done Rooney > Lukaku & Barfa > Ozil for -4. But should I pull a WC to get:
Mig/Harper
Shaw/Clyne/5M/5M/4M
Oscar/Michu/Ozil/Yaya/Januzaj
Sturridge/Giroud/Lukaku
?Open ControlsHow does this set of players? Any advise?
Mig, Boruc
Coleman, Zaba, Dawson, Whittaker, Chester (Inj)
Oscar, Ozil, Barkley, Michu, Whittingham
Suarez, Lukaku, Giroud
What formation to play? Who to captain?Open Controls@HVT, you've got mail. Maybe i was wrong to skip the skipper and went straight to the gaffer. 😉
Open ControlsHow is this for a wc team?
Vorm boruc
Terry walker Huth clyne mturner
Walcot Michu Oscar paulinio januzaj
Sturridge giroud lukakuOpen Controlssturridge vs suarez and giroud vs rooney the key questions imo
also will walcott be back? and do you think he's the better bet over ozil?Open Controlsnice , i have majorty of those players in my team so i have to like it
great strikingforce 😉Open ControlsForca when to you plan to announce the big transfer? Come home 😉 😛
Open Controlsi wont leave senegal no matter what
can you just forget about me and move on?
not sure that my team will accept that offerOpen Controlswe know you'll say that, then all of a sudden jump ship
you did it last year with a far superior team, and you'll do it again this yearOpen Controlsi wont do it this time cause senegal team suits be perfectly
Open Controls
Check below. Special press regarding you.
Please replyOpen Controls
Cheers
Open ControlsAlso in two weeks giroud become benteke and then my strike force is complete 🙂
Open Controlsthat's exacly my plan as well 😀
Open Controls
Love it. I think Wally is a better FPL option than Ozil, so if he's fit go for it.
Open ControlsI'm counting on it. It's time for wally to hog some of those Ramsey points
Open Controls
I like it, besides Januzaj though.
He's a decent option, if you feel that he'll be on your bench most of the time.Open ControlsI wouldn't bring Huth and Januzaj, and don't like the look of Paulinho either but may come off.
Also I'd wait with Wally.Open Controls
Obviously GW8 is a long way off but I have a strong urge to captain Baines...
Open ControlsJust like some people had a strong urge to (c) Vertonghen at home vs West Ham?
Open ControlsI have a strong urge to get him in. But then I'd have to boot Coleman and that just feels like a bad move.
Open Controls(But I would never captain him)

You know the rules Joe

***Important press conference regarding #Tahiti team.
I see a lot of top quality managers applied for a place in our team. I must say we have some important negotiation with the board regarding the new beach, where we practice. There are some uncertainties which could influence the preparation period.
In mean time all the applications are welcomed, but currently acceptance is on pending. We hope soon to clear the issues and all to continue as planned.***
Yours,
Tahiti teamOpen ControlsHave already used 1FT to do Rooney >> Lukaku....what should i do with my other FT?
Myhill (boruc)
Vidic baines wilson (dawson burner)
michu ramsey eriksen barkley (brady)
Giroud Suarez Lukaku
A: Eriksen >> Oscar...but i got a feeling that oscar won't start next gw
B: Brady >> Janujai
C: dawson/wilson >> chico
Leaning towards B as my def is ok for this weekOpen ControlsI would save too. Team looking good, Brady will be back soon so don't waste two transfers getting him out then possibly back in again.
