There’s a trio of new arrivals on this week’s Tightrope, the most high profile being a certain United frontman. Wayne Rooney’s caution during Sunday’s draw at Cardiff, picked up for a seventh-minute “challenge” on Jordan Mutch, means he has now accumulated four yellows – if he receives another in any of his side’s next eight league matches between now and January 1, Rooney will serve an automatic one-match ban.

Earlier today, it was confirmed Rooney will not face any retrospective action after kicking out at the Cardiff player, as the incident was dealt with by the referee at the time. Similarly, Everton’s Kevin Mirallas looks set to escape further punishment for his challenge on Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby – the Belgian, who was also booked for the indiscretion, has since admitted he was lucky not to be dismissed.

According to reports earlier this afternoon, Cardiff’s Gary Medel has escaped punishment for apparently raising his hands in the direction of United’s Marouane Fellaini in yesterday’s 2-2 draw.

Rooney was also joined on the Tightrope by Everton’s Ross Barkley and Southampton’s combative central midfielder Victor Wanyama, who were booked against Liverpool and Arsenal respectively. We now have 26 players sitting on four yellow cards, with only three clubs – Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Cardiff – not represented.

Liverpool do, however, sport the player with the most bookings to his name – Lucas has incurred the referee’s wrath no fewer than six times in the first 12 Gameweeks. Sunderland defender Wes Brown and Palace wide man Yannick Bolasie were both dismissed for dangerous play at the weekend and are currently poised to serve three-match bans.

The FA confirmed earlier today, however, that both clubs have contested the decisions – the Black Cats are particularly confident of winning the appeal in light of Brown’s challenge on Stoke’s Charlie Adam in a 2-0 loss at the Britannia. Fulham’s Sascha Riether will complete the last of a three-game suspension against West Ham; he will return for the Gameweek 14 home clash against London rivals Tottenham.

Gus Poyet welcomes Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena back into the Black Cats’ fold for the trip to Villa after the duo’s respective three-match suspensions came to an end last Saturday. Elsewhere, Mathieu Debuchy returns for Newcastle’s home game with West Brom, having served a one-match ban at home to Norwich for accumulating five yellow cards, whilst Mathieu Flamini is back for Arsenal’s trip to Cardiff, giving Arsene Wenger a double-pivot dilemma away to the Bluebirds.

    Get Ravel in? I know he is on 4 yellows but I need a cheap 4th mid.

    6.2 in the bank.

      Probably the best mid for 5 and under I say. Get him in. His mot the most influential player for your gw score so if he gets a 1 game suspension im sure you could get away with benching him that gw

    Ilovebaps... still considering changing lukaku for rooney I see? Im actually regretting the move. Not really because of the brace but more because gw 16 I want him.. and I also just realised the transfers I could do with that extra money! Aslong as i have aguero and suarez for captains.. not sure if i need rooney? What are you thinking?

      My thoughts exactly.. not captaining him for sure cause of Aguero and Suarez so finding his points a bit too premium for my taste as my midfield is struggling

          He is but if u look at the next 7 weeks atleast.. you would only captain aguero and suarez and theres 2 weeks lukaku will be a standout captain aswell. I dont think I could captain roo over kun or suarez

        Thats a big factor for me.. lukaku is cheap.. so much value and you could have rooney and a cheap mid or lukaku and any mid! Or even lukaku and 2 premium defenders over rooney and 2 cheap ones!

      I'm thinking that Rooney is in great form and is consistently in the goals. RVP is struggling for fitness which is keeping Rooney well in the picture at Utd.

      Lukaku is as likely to blank as he is to score a hatrick every week. (Ala cpl last week and mu last season). Will his consistency get any better under Martinez?

        He scored a brace vs Pool but if he was a better finisher he could of had 5!! Most were bagging him before he finally managed to net one and his price was dropping like a stone.
        Also Rooney's fixtures are awesome after Tot.

          True.. but his shown he can score in big games. And you have to keep in mind I was watching and skrtel and agger were all over him the whole game. On him like flies! He escaped from them twice in the match and they were his 2 goals.. skrtel and agger were doing great on him and he still found a way to get a brace.

        its a tough one! I thought the same as you, but when I was thinking about wat transfers to make in coming weeks I couldnt think of many improvements without getting rid of rooney! Im going to do rooney to lukaku gw16 and get a better defence or mid.

    How's everyone today? The Aguero, Rooney, Suarez frontline seems set in stone for me. It's the midfield which is a cause of worry, as the points are barely trickling in from there.

    Barkley, Ramsey, Amalfitano, Ozil, Townsend

    Whom would you be looking to get rid of? I was initially thinking of Ozil but he has decent fixtures.....

        But the forwards have been saving me week in week out....Not touching them at all.

        Premium mids have done so poorly this season, it's kinda worrying. Of course, I have been ridden with bad luck, hanging on to wrong players, and letting go of others at the worst possible time.

        Wally had one good week, and it all went downhill from there. He clearly has potential to explode, as his stats from last season suggest, but I'm wait for him to hit form before I get him.

          Well he did get injured, so that might explain why he hasn't been scoring points 😉

          Giroud, Remy, Lukaku, Studge (and probably Benteke eventually) have points in them IMO and I'm not sure Rooney is worth the extra. If you are happy with the sub 8m mids, then go for it, but I want Wally!

    Will be doing Baines -> a cheapie this week to be part of a 3 man rotation with Clyne and Ward. The only weeks I'd potentially want to play them up to the Jan WC, are GWs 13,16,18 & 19.

    The options - best one?

    A) Vlaar (SUN, new, CPL, SWA)
    B) Collins/Rat (FUL, SUN, car, WBA)
    C) Murner/Olsson (CPL, SWA, FUL, eve)

    Currently deciding between these 2 routes - whatcha reckon?

    (A)
    GW13: Baines -> GJ
    GW14: Nasri & Mirallas -> Walcott & Coutinho/Michu [4 points]
    GW15: Save
    GW16: Walcott/Coutinho/Michu & Giroud -> Hazard & Lukaku

    (B)
    GW13: Baines -> Vlaar/Rat
    GW14: Nasri -> Walcott
    GW15: Giroud -> Rooney
    GW16: Walcott-> Hazard

        Yeah, kind of a 2 week gamble for their nice home games. I'm swaying towards B at the mo due to Rooney. Current squad is:

        Boruc, Davis
        Terry, Evra, Baines, Clyne, Ward
        Mirallas, Nasri, Ramsey, Snodgrass, Ravel
        Aguero, Suarez, Giroud

            But the main point of B is to get Rooney or his great run of games (which would mean losing Giroud since Kun/Suarez are undroppable right now)....

    Q. To aim for Rooney GW15 or keep Lukaku and spread the love?

    Boruc
    Burner, Dawson, Johnson
    Sessegnon, Ramsey, Özil, Hazard
    Agüero(C), Lukaku, Suárez(VC)

    (Davis, Morrison, Williams, Clyne)
    £1.6 ITB & 1FT.

      I won 8/11 your starting 11.

      I see you have Hazard already. Walcott in for Ozil/Ramzey? I still think Dawson is good value. Who knows what AVB will do...

      Re the Rooney issue...we prob won't ever (c) him over the Festive period, so then you reckon he will outscore Lukaku over those fixtures?

    Rooney vs Lukaku for the 3rd striker spot seems a popular issue at the moment.

    Simply because there are NO United midfielders worth getting, I think I'm swaying towards a Rooney & Mirallas combo, especially with Baines likely being out (Mirallas on all corners/free kicks you'd think). Is this a simple answer? Or is the beast that is Lukaku a must have?

      I don't think you buy Rooney now with the suspension threat - but swapping him to Lukaku is also a bit of a strange move with Everton's not-so-appealing immediate fixtures. I think if you have either you hold.
