There’s a trio of new arrivals on this week’s Tightrope, the most high profile being a certain United frontman. Wayne Rooney’s caution during Sunday’s draw at Cardiff, picked up for a seventh-minute “challenge” on Jordan Mutch, means he has now accumulated four yellows – if he receives another in any of his side’s next eight league matches between now and January 1, Rooney will serve an automatic one-match ban.

Earlier today, it was confirmed Rooney will not face any retrospective action after kicking out at the Cardiff player, as the incident was dealt with by the referee at the time. Similarly, Everton’s Kevin Mirallas looks set to escape further punishment for his challenge on Luis Suarez in the Merseyside derby – the Belgian, who was also booked for the indiscretion, has since admitted he was lucky not to be dismissed.

According to reports earlier this afternoon, Cardiff’s Gary Medel has escaped punishment for apparently raising his hands in the direction of United’s Marouane Fellaini in yesterday’s 2-2 draw.

Rooney was also joined on the Tightrope by Everton’s Ross Barkley and Southampton’s combative central midfielder Victor Wanyama, who were booked against Liverpool and Arsenal respectively. We now have 26 players sitting on four yellow cards, with only three clubs – Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Cardiff – not represented.

Liverpool do, however, sport the player with the most bookings to his name – Lucas has incurred the referee’s wrath no fewer than six times in the first 12 Gameweeks. Sunderland defender Wes Brown and Palace wide man Yannick Bolasie were both dismissed for dangerous play at the weekend and are currently poised to serve three-match bans.

The FA confirmed earlier today, however, that both clubs have contested the decisions – the Black Cats are particularly confident of winning the appeal in light of Brown’s challenge on Stoke’s Charlie Adam in a 2-0 loss at the Britannia. Fulham’s Sascha Riether will complete the last of a three-game suspension against West Ham; he will return for the Gameweek 14 home clash against London rivals Tottenham.

Gus Poyet welcomes Lee Cattermole and Andrea Dossena back into the Black Cats’ fold for the trip to Villa after the duo’s respective three-match suspensions came to an end last Saturday. Elsewhere, Mathieu Debuchy returns for Newcastle’s home game with West Brom, having served a one-match ban at home to Norwich for accumulating five yellow cards, whilst Mathieu Flamini is back for Arsenal’s trip to Cardiff, giving Arsene Wenger a double-pivot dilemma away to the Bluebirds.

Anyone know how long Reid is out for? Thinking of putting a cheap West Ham defender in but Rat is injured and when Reid's back he'll replace Collins won't he?

Cheers. He might be a good pick between now and Jan then? It was between him, Vlaar and Yang-Mbiwa, who would you go for?

till New Year at least, you'll lose a lot of money over him, he's too expensive to keep him rotting on the bench, sell for a hit if you have to

Yeah Reid's ankle quite serious then? Collins is a good replacement for him.

Thoughts on my team at present gents?

    Mignolet

    Coleman Terry Ward

    Janujaz Ozil Oscar Brady

    Suarez (VC) Aguero Rooney (C)

    Boruc Morrison Clyne Chester - TV (105.5) & 0.00 in bank + 2FTS

    - Thinking of Ozil to Navas and Janujaz to Ramsey. Thoughts?

Will leave 0.1m in the bank

i like that move ozil- navas and Januzaj to ramsey, with that said, how nailed on navas will be once silva returns remains to be seen since they both play from the right usually (Pellegrini said he could be out for a month on 8/11 so a return could be eminent by GW 15 ( being back by GW 14 might be a stretch)

depends on how long term you see Navas starting and if you would be rdy to get rid of him should he lose that spot ( at 8.1 he is no bargain). Nasri might be a better option since he plays on the left. He hasn't been too horrible as of late 😀

mmm...Arsenal defence quietly going about their business..three clean sheets in four and just the single goal in the other game...in fact never conceded more than one in every game since the opening GW...good stuff.

Trying to get a bit more guidance on beefing up my girlfriends' defence:

    Boruc* / 4.0
    Baines* / Clyne* / Rosenior* / Burner / Terry

    A) Baines -> Ivanovich/GJ/Merte
    B) Baines and Rosenior -> GJ and Merte (-4)
    C) Baines and Boruc -> GJ/Ivan and Chesney

    Thanks 🙂

Getting rid of Baines before the price drop. Not sure whether to go straight for GJ or a cheapie like Gabbidon allowing me to upgrade midfield later this GW or next GW?

    Team:

    Mig
    Baines / Terry / Mert / Burner / Baker
    Yaya / Ramsey / RavMo / JWP / Colback
    Rooney / Suarez / Aguero

    1FT. 1.1 Mil

Even getting a 4.0 in for Baines only leaves me 8.9M to replace Colback which is just short of the premiums. I guess I could go with Stevie G?

Is Lampard worth a punt up to Jan WC?
