I wouldn't worry about rank until the end of January over December you could easily make your way into the top 100k and going from there to top 1k is very doable in the last 15GWs or so of the season.

You have to be really lucky to get a good first season. You will improve as seasons go by. Check my GW history for an example

Its never too late. Just carefully pick your captains and don't make unnecessary hits and you'll make up a lot of ground.

I would imagine its almost certain GW26 will be a DGW even if its one of those rubbish ones where the only teams playing twice are Hull & Palace or something. We're unlikely to see a winter with no games off and that GW has a nice big window for rearranged matches.
