PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 15

Samir Nasri rewarded our faith with a brace against Swansea last weekend, while Norwich’s Martin Olsson also chipped in with a clean sheet at home to Crystal Palace. With no Gameweek over Tuesday and Wednesday, Fantasy managers can take advantage of a PlayON Price list which was set prior to the 10 midweek matches. As we’ll see, there are a number of kindly-priced options available at the back and in midfield, affording us the chance to save cash for a certain Uruguayan as part of our front two for Liverpool’s home clash with West Ham:

If you’re new to PlayON, read this season’s introduction article for more information. If you’re already a PlayON player, read on for our selection of this week’s targets…

Goalkeeper – Michel Vorm
The Swansea keeper will set you back just 8.0m ahead of a home clash with Hull City this weekend. Vorm returned to the starting XI in midweek and helped Michael Laudrup’s side to a 3-0 home win over Newcastle, with the comprehensive victory ending the visitors’ four-match unbeaten run. Given that the Tigers have scored just twice in their last four on the road, confidence in another shut-out looks high for the Dutchman. Alternatively, if you fancy Fulham to keep out an Aston Villa side that have drawn blanks in five of the last eight Gameweeks, Maarten Stekelenburg will set you back a mere 7.8m.

Defender – Jon Flanagan
Let’s face it, the Liverpool defence have been anything but resilient in recent matches but, with a home game against West Ham next up, their chances of a clean sheet have never looked better. Aside from their 3-0 win at Spurs in Gameweek 7, Sam Allardyce’s side have scored just once in six road trips, suggesting Brendan Rodgers’ backline could well be in the points. Flanagan comes in at just 7.5m and is one of a number of very favourable backline options this weekend. If you reckon Man City can pick up in resilience on the road, their fit-again skipper Vincent Kompany is priced at 7.2m for a trip to Southampton, whilst Fulham’s Sascha Riether and Swansea’s Ben Davies will take up just 7.0m and 7.3m of your budget for the above-mentioned home matches.

Midfielder – Juan Mata
With Oscar still struggling to overcome an ankle injury, the Spaniard looks good for a third consecutive start this weekend as Chelsea make their way to Stoke City. Jose Mourinho’s side have been in scintillating form of late, scoring 10 times in the last three Gameweeks and, priced at a mere 7.7m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List, the Blues playmaker offers a real touch of class at a budget cost. In addition, United’s Shinji Kagawa looks set to start for the third successive league match at home to Newcastle due to the injury and suspension situation up top and sets you back 8.4m, whilst Swansea’s Pablo Hernandez costs just 6.8m for the visit of Hull on Monday evening; the hosts have scored at least three times in all but one of their last four home games.

Forward – Javier Hernandez
If you’re on the lookout for a budget-friendly frontman, the little Mexican may well appeal. With Wayne Rooney sitting out the visit of Newcastle due to suspension and Robin Van Persie struggling to make it out of the United treatment room, Hernandez, at 9.8m, looks favourite to get the nod against a Magpies side that have averaged two goals against on their travels so far. Elsewhere amongst the cut-price starters up top, Marouane Chamakh is available for 10.2m as he looks to build on Tuesday’s winner against West Ham, whilst Dimitar Berbatov looks set for another start for Fulham – the Bulgarian picked up an assist against former club Tottenham in midweek, and priced at 10.4m, will lead the line for Rene Meulensteen’s side as on-loan Darren Bent is unavailable to face his parent club.

£500 Guaranteed Pot This Week

PlayON has a £500 Guaranteed Pot on offer this week for a £5.50 entry fee. Once the number of entries reaches 100, the pot will continue to rise above £500, so invite your friends and help to increase the pot size.

How To Play

PlayON is weekly Fantasy Football for free or for cash, so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built (you can keep changing your team right up to two hours before the first kick-off – 10.45am this Saturday), you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 54% win rate up to this point.

The Fantasy Football Scout Game

We’ve also got a £2 multiplayer game, dedicated to our community, which is now open and the prize pot is building.

Challenge Your Mates

You can also set up your own multiplayer games with your mates to play for bragging rights only or for cash. Create your own game at www.playon.co.uk.

Finally, a reminder that we have published a strategy guide, offering some tips for getting the most from your PlayON lineup, right here.

You have to be over 18 to enter cash games at PlayON. If you do wager some cash, please remember to gamble responsibly. PlayON is licensed and regulated by the UK Gambling Commission.

    Killian here from http://www.playon.co.uk,

This week there’s a bounty on Robbie Fowler’s head - take him on in a £1 one-on-one game and one person who beats him will win £10 free credit.

As usual, I’m happy to answer any questions you have about the article above or about PlayON in general – just post them as replies below. Thanks

Loving how Rooney didn't drop last night. His flag will be removed tomorrow and then he will be protected for 8 days whilst becoming a massive differential for me 😀

Wenger: "Ozil still has to find the right balance between his will to play for others & the moment where he must take an individual risk. Hes sometimes a bit disturbed by his altruism I think he’d sometimes benefit w/ taking more risks individually. But what a player"

I think you saw this a bit more against Hull. Goals are coming for him.

I don't think he's been quite or off form like many others have said, it's just his style of play - to keep things simple. Against Hull he did seem to drive into the box more though.

Poor in what sense? People are expecting him to dribble past 4 or 5 players and score a goal like Aguero or Suarez, he's not that sort of player.

    @ TW

    Replied in last post.

Adding to that point, I think having flexibilty/options is good thing I think. I mean I can revert to 4-3-3 occasionally. Mertesacker has City & Chelsea after this GW so I'd like to start Evans & bench him. If Evans doesn't play then he comes in as part of auto-sub. When all 4 of them have good fixtures I can revert to 4-3-3. What do you say?

        You could be right.

        Hazard, Walcott, Mirallas, Whitts, Ravel

The latter 2 rotate well & I feel they don't deserve to be regular 5th MF so keeping them.

Walcott is a worry. I believe Mirallas is still ahead of that young Barca lad in pecking order so may as well keep him for the good run of fixtures.

I currently have 5 flagged players (Ravel, Clyne, Vlaar, Oscar, Rooney) plus Januzaj not starting. Bit annoying.

I'm thinking Clyne > Gabbidon and Januzaj > Shelvey or Whittingham for -4, and hope that Oscar plays.

    What do you think?

Want to bring additional EVE defence in and need to get rid of Mig & Clyne for combo of a similar price. Other defenders are

    Coleman Chester BTurner.

    Thoughts on the following?

    A) Marshall + Jags
    B) McGregor + Jags
    C) Speroni + Jags
    D) Howard + Ward

If A-C, good idea to bring in Jags anyway before his price rise for free this GW?

I think Jags is worth the .7 if he does choose to go the non-Howard route. Every CS guarantees 2/3 baps for Jags.

Thought of that but if we're really expecting clean sheets for EVE, Jags is a better bet for BPs no?

The appeal of Howard is the save points he'd rack up - could still make up for the lack of BPs.

I think Howard and Ward is the way. You can rotate Ward for better fixtures, you can't rotate your only keeper (I assume your other is a 4m). You will play Howard every game just like Jags I think so that is the same. Net profit I think. Don't think jags bonus will be top huge a factor if Everton score, plus save points for Howard.

If you like your evenings full of non-stop football and don't mind a late night, then you are very much in luck. After Brazil's opening day game, there follows a 10-day period with three matches per day, kicking off at 17:00 BST, 20:00 BST and 23:00 BST.
The second-round matches take place at 17:00 and 21:00 BST, the quarter-finals at 17:00 and 21:00 BST, the semi-finals at 21:00 BST and the final at 20:00 BST.

I think what tips the balance is that so many people have got injured that it's not the same defence. Center back, right back, defensive mid, goalkeeper for crying out loud. Plus Chelsea seem to have found their Achilles heel with aerial bombardment. There's definitely a feeling they've peaked defensively.

Yup my exact sentiments. I have no issue with keeping Clyne but it's just the CS potential has gone down together with a bad fixture list. Can't rely on assist potential alone.

Will be shifting him this week or next.

No room for players that aren't nailed on in most teams..

Yep my concern. Shame because for his price could be a great buy for Everton's fixture.

Nope, midfield spots are suddenly precious again. Would rather have Lukaku for attack and 2 EVE defenders ideally.

Oh right, probably referring to this bit: http://i.imgur.com/RTR0M6d.png

That gets updated automatically by fpl, not me. He's not confirmed out though, as the flag on him says he could be back this week, even though it's red

He's not out yet but can't blame Demi as he has stated "he could be back".

Chelsea Press yet to happen I think.

Predictions for Scout Picks later tonight? I reckon it will be something similar to:

    Mignolet
    Ward Terry Williams Evra
    Gerrard Ramsey Hazard Yaya (Brunt)
    Suarez Aguero (Berbatov)

Brunt ahead of Yaya and maybe McAuley somewhere there. Shane Long as the 3rd forward I think.

Rooney -> Lukaku (-4) could give me a midfield of Ramsey, Silva, Gerrard and Hazard by GW17 (Morrison -> Silva). Tempting, very tempting. Would also have Aguero, Suarez, Jags, Koscielny and Distin.

Is Rooney really worth the extra?

Are people selling players, such as Rooney, for their 1 game suspension?

    Then buying back next week?

Then they have decent fixtures, but so do Utd.

arsenal is better than no fixture

yes but the money saved allows you to significantly upgrade a midfielder
