As always, the player picks for our weekly Fantasy Football game, PlayON, are rolled out this Friday lunchtime. We’re on the lookout for potential bargains in our assessment of this week’s PlayON Price List, as we prepare for a Gameweek that takes in the next 20 league fixtures, from Saturday lunchtime until Wednesday evening. There’s a £1,000 guaranteed pot on offer at PlayON this week, too.
If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built you can compete for cash. Entering a multiplayer game for a set stake, you’ll have a chance of winning your share of the pot should you finish high enough in the rankings.
Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 54% win rate up to this point.
For a more in depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.
Goalkeeper – Artur Boruc
Priced at 8.9m, the Southampton stopper has a home clash against Stoke this weekend followed by a trip to Hull City. Boruc’s clean sheet chances look strong for both fixtures – the Potters have scored once in their last six road trips, whilst Steve Bruce’s side have proven somewhat goal-shy in recent matches, netting just once in the last four Gameweeks. The Tigers Steve Harper continues to benefit from Allan McGregor’s suspension and, in addition to the Saints clash, also has a trip to Sunderland on his agenda – at 6.9m, he looks a strong budget enabler for the Gameweek. Elsewhere amongst the cut-price options, Cardiff’s David Marshall travels to Swansea tomorrow before entertaining Villa on Tuesday evening. Coming in at just 7.6m, the Bluebirds number one’s propensity to earn save points boosts his appeal even if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side do concede.
Defender – Winston Reid
Emerging from the bench to signal his comeback from injury last weekend, the centre-half is expected to be installed to the heart of West Ham’s defence for a trip to Villa and home clash against Norwich. Big Sam’s side have just registered back-to-back clean sheets and the big Kiwi’s return only strengthens their resolve – at just 7.1m, Reid looks a steal. At 9.1m, Pablo Zabaleta remains reasonably priced for City’s trip to Norwich and home clash against Sunderland. The Canaries have notched once in their last three at Carrow Road, whilst Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be desperate to turn in a convincing display at the Etihad in midweek, having lost their unbeaten record to Chelsea on Monday. Fit-again Seamus Coleman is back for Everton’s trip to Tottenham and home game against Palace. The right-back also comes in at 9.1m and his eye for goal has already seen him find the net on five occasions this term.
Midfielder – Wilfried Zaha
Having made an immediate impact off the bench last weekend, Cardiff’s on-loan wide man looks key to his side’s prospects. Zaha is likely to get the nod ahead of Peter Whittingham on the left as Ole Gunner Solskjaer injects a little more pace and direct play on the flanks – priced at just 7.5m in this week’s PlayON Player Price List, Zaha has a Welsh derby trip to Swansea this weekend before the Bluebirds entertain Villa on Tuesday evening. Tottenham’s Paulinho marked his return from injury with a goal against Hull last weekend. The 8.1m-priced Brazilian’s all-action style of play is looked upon kindly by the PlayON scoring matrix – he has games against Everton and injury-hit Newcastle up next. City’s David Silva is a little steeper on the budget at 9.3m but, with doubts over the forward roles, his place looks secure ahead of the above-mentioned pair of fixtures.
Forward – Wayne Rooney
Yet to hit top form since returning from injury last week, the United forward remains very favourably priced at a mere 9.4m. A home game against freefalling Fulham could see Rooney justify our investment this weekend before David Moyes’ side make their way to the Emirates next Wednesday. A home game with Newcastle and trip to West Brom bodes well for Eden Hazard’s chances of further returns. The Belgian is the one attacker we can rely on to play both games for Jose Mourinho’s in-form side and, at 11.7m, is also on spot-kick duties if Frank Lampard remains on the bench. If you’re shopping on a budget, however, Cardiff’s new signing Kenwyne Jones may be worth considering. The Trinidadian comes in at just 9.7m and, having notched on his debut last time around, will be brimming with confidence ahead of games against Swansea and Villa.
