With last week’s Clean Sheet Accumulator fetching us a third consecutive “Flutter” victory, we go into our fourth sit-down with Paddy Power with our purse well and truly intact. Can we stay in the black after backing this week’s Scout Pick Selections? Let’s see where our money goes this weekend whilst taking a glance at Paddy’s clean sheet and goalscoring odds…

We will start with our “Flutter of the Week” – I’ve been convinced of Peter Odemwingie’s worth against Villa for more than a few days now and with Paddy offering me 7/1 on the Nigerian scoring two or more, I have to take the up on it. I’ll lay a confident £3 on that one.

Similarly Luis Saurez has been overdue another heavy return in the Liverpool attack. With form and confidence flowing through the veins at Anfield, I have to back a home win against Newcastle with Suarez set to be highly influential. Paddy have Suarez at 7/2 for two or more goals – I’ll take a £1 bet on that.

Moving to the Scout Pick midfield and Yaya Toure makes a rare appearance – it’s been touch and go with David Silva all week and there will be many Fantasy Managers still debating either way. Paddy have offered us 9/5 on Toure to net anytime against West Ham at Eastlands so I’ll throw another £2 at this.

Staying with City and Mario Balotelli is another asset that many Fantasy Managers will be backing given that goals look on the menu against the Hammers. The fiery Italian can be as destructive as he is talented so we went to Paddy for a special to cover this – they’ve offered us 11/4 Balotelli scoring and getting booked in the West Ham game. I’ll spare another couple of quid on that.

Aleksandar Kolarov continued Scout Pick selection continues to be a bone of contention – I’m adamant that there’s at least one goal left to come from the Serb’s left peg so, with Paddy offering me 12/1 on a goal from outside the box this weekend, I’m more than happy to take them up on it.

The final coin in the Flutter funds goes on the Clean Sheet Accumulator with 10/1 available on shut-outs for Man City, Liverpool and Birmingham in the gameweek.

With our pockets empty for another week, let’s move on to examine Paddy’s view on the gameweek fixtures when it comes to clean sheet and goalscoring odds.

Who Will Keep a Clean Sheet?

  • Man City 2.00
  • Liverpool 2.10
  • Chelsea 2.25
  • Birmingham 2.50
  • Blackburn 2.62
  • Sunderland 2.87

There are few surprises here. It’s City out in front with Avram Grant’s ailing West Ham side at Eastlands today; the Hammers have scored just a single goal in their last three, while City have kept two consecutive shut-outs in home matches and have 15 clean sheets overall this season. Chelsea are on that same figure and, even with a highly motivated and dangerous Spurs at the Bridge this weekend, Carlo Ancelotti’s side remain well-fancied for another shut-out here. Liverpool are second favourites however, they face a Newcastle side that has scored just 3 goals in their last 5 away trips – only Sunderland have notched fewer; Liverpool’s home form meanwhile, shows they’ve conceded just 2 goals in their last five.

In keeping with the Scout Picks, you’ll find both Birmingham and Blackburn completing the top five. Shut-outs are far from assured with this pairing but, in Fantasy terms, Roger Johnson and Chris Samba do at least offer some threat at the other end of the field.

Anytime Goalscorer

  • M Balotelli 1.66 (WHM)
  • D Drogba 1.83 (TOT)
  • E Dzeko 1.83 (WHM)
  • L Suarez 1.83 (NEW)
  • A Carroll 1.83 (NEW)
  • D Bent 2.20 (wba)
  • F Torres 2.20 (TOT)
  • F Lampard 2.20 (TOT)
  • D Kuyt 2.20 (NEW)
  • P Odemwingie 2.25 (AVL)
  • K Jones 2.30 (blp)
  • DJ Campbell 2.50 (STK)
  • Rv Persie 2.50 (MUN)
  • W Rooney 2.50 (ars)
  • D Silva 2.50 (WHM)
  • J Walters 2.70 (blp)
  • N Anelka 2.70 (TOT)
  • S Kalou 2.70 (TOT)
  • J Hernandez 2.70 (ars)

With Carlos Tevez out of the equation and the obliging Hammers defence in town, Mario Balotelli can be found at the top of Paddy’s Anytime Scorer odds. The young Italian is fancied over the likes of Didier Drogba and Luis Suarez for the weekend fixtures, and, as we’ve detailed above, you can get a special on Balotelli notching and earning a booking to lengthen his odds here.

Further down, Peter Odemwingie’s standing is somewhat surprising given his form; particularly when you consider that Paddy back Darren Bent in the same match over the Baggies striker. Meanwhile, the Arsenal vs United clash at the Emirates ensures that both Robin Van Persie and Wayne Rooney go into the weekend with their longest odds for a good while. The likes of Kenwyne Jones, DJ Campbell and the midfield pair of Frank Lampard and Dirk Kuyt are considered more likely to find the net.

Finally, David Silva’s odds of 2.50, compared to 2.75 handed to Yaya Toure may well give many Fantasy Managers late food for thought on the City midfield dilemma. Silva has scored 3 goals in his last 6 league appearances, with Toure registering just a single goal in the same spell.

Paddy’s Money Back Special

Paddy are at the Emirates for they refund special. If there are more than 4 goals in the game between Arsenal and United, Paddy Power will refund all losing 1st /last goalscorer, correct score & scorecast singles on that match.

Who should I captain from this bunch?

    Foster
    Kolarov / Baines / Luiz
Lampard / Yaya Youre / AYoung / Adam / Dempsey
    RVP / Odemwingie

I am in a money league (the payout structure encourages an all-or-nothing approach), so I am thinking of captaining the nigerian. How does Captain Odemwingie sound??

Have seen this morning that rival has taken a 4 pt hit (2 free - 1 hit)
Was going to take a hit myself but now I've seen this move do I go for an 8 point hit as the psychology is I'm still only dropping the 4 pts on him as I would have done before (but 8 pts obviously affects my rank)

The plan was to bring in Suarez and Silva but now I'd also like Kuyt (would drop A. Young to do this)

My other thought was to bring in Suarez and Kuyt this week and then drop Kuyt for Silva and Yaya next but judging on how good a week I had was also bring in VDV for the 8 pt hit then instead.

      Hope this makes sense.
      Defending a 39 pt lead.
      Any advice?

is most certainly is true - why should him/her spending 4 points make any difference to the transfers you make yourself. If you know what their new players are you can cover it but if you don't it shouldn't affect your own changes.

Basically, it hasn't changed which combination of transfers are best for your own team

I agree with what harmonica is saying and to be fair is the general concensus on here which is concentrate on your own team rather than worry about a rivals.
However, there is also an arguement that if you match your rivals pts hit and end up getting the better players when all is said and done the damage to them is more extensive.
For instance I bring in Kuyt who scores and he brings in Kalou who doesn't. I'm at least 3 pts up on the deal whereas he's 2 pts down.
              I don't know anymore!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great advice and I keep saying that to myself all the time but then always find myself going back to his team! LOL
I guess this is what it's like defending a slender lead.
Normally I'm miles ahead and am never really bothered about what he's doing.
Said it last week - have to put myself in attack mode - not defence!

for a hit, i dont think young > kuyt is worth it

Kuyt will do well this week but young has West Brom followed by Wigan at home (pool travel to fulham who are defensively sound)

I would be tempted (depending on your options of course) to just get Silva and not spend any points therefore extending your lead by 4pts and taking the gamble that your rival doesnt get too lucky.

            Again, sound advice.
I think I'm preoccupying myself too much with what he's doing.
I'm starting to convince myself he has Kuyt.

How can you tell your rival's taken a hit?
How can you see their new team before the deadline?

So Carroll has odds of 1.83 (anytime scorer) despite being injured and so not guaranteed to play. . . hmmm

        In any case.

        Which is the better trade?

        Nani -> Kuyt
        or
        Carroll -> Odemwingie

        It'll cost me 4 points.
I'm currently 15 points ahead at the top of my league. . .

The rest of my team is

Samba, R Johnson, Luiz (Elmohamady, Huth)
Adam, Dempsey, Silva (c), Yaya (Nani)
        RVP, Drogba (Carroll)

        Advice appreciated. Thanks

If you need money for the next GW then Wingie, if not then Kuyt.

in terms of money, there's not much difference.

The Nani/Kuyt change will leave me with 0.7 in the bank, whereas the Carroll/Odem change would leave me with 0.6.
