The FA retrospectively charge Charlie Adam after his alleged stamp on Olivier Giroud last Saturday. Martin Olsson is the latest injury concern for Norwich after pulling out of the Sweden squad with a shoulder problem. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Wilfried Zaha still has a part to play for Cardiff, Tottenham’s left-back worries escalate and West Brom’s Billy Jones is out for a month with a hamstring injury:

Adam Charged with Violent Conduct

The FA have taken retrospective action against the Stoke midfielder after his alleged stamp on Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud last weekend. The match officials failed to spot the incident at the time but the authorities have acted quickly in charging Adam – he has until 6pm this evening to respond.

Stoke issued a statement on their official website just minutes after the decision was made public and have confirmed they will contest it:

“The club have learnt within the last hour that The FA have chosen to charge Charlie Adam following an incident involving Olivier Giroud in Saturday’s Barclays Premier League game against Arsenal. Charlie and the Club are surprised and disappointed to learn of this and will appeal vigorously against the decision.”

The Scout Says: In almost any other Gameweek, this news wouldn’t be much of an issue for Fantasy managers but, with only five fixtures set to take place this weekend, our midfield options could be restricted further. If Adam is found guilty, a three-match ban looks on the cards for the Scot – meaning he would miss this week’s trip to Norwich in addition to the league games against West Ham and Villa, thus killing off his appeal as a short-term option. With the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Christian Eriksen both doubtful and Jason Puncheon rested by Tony Pulis, many of the in-form options with fixtures on their agenda this weekend could be out of the equation. Bearing in mind Stoke’s kind schedule, a move for Jon Walters may tempt some – as the weekend win Arsenal showed, the Republic of Ireland international will step up for spot-kicks if Adam is not on the field.

Olsson Concern for Canaries

The Norwich left-back was an early withdrawal from Sweden’s squad to face Turkey tomorrow evening after sustaining a shoulder problem against Villa on Sunday. Olsson’s national team coach Erik Hamren confirmed the defender is due to undergo surgery once the current campaign is completed:

“He will undergo surgery later. He has a problem which became worse yesterday. Norwich want him to remain with the club to get treatment and have as much chance as possible to be able to complete the season.”

The Scout Says: The news merely adds to Chris Hughton’s concerns in a dismal week that saw Leroy Fer, Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Robert Snodgrass all pick up injuries. Prior to the midweek defeat at Villa, Olsson had turned in some of his best Fantasy displays of the season, with an assist, three bonus points and a trio of clean sheets over the previous six Gameweeks. Providing he can recover for this weekend, a home clash with Stoke looks prosperous as Hughton’s side seek a fifth successive shut-out at Carrow Road, whilst the 4.3-priced defender’s owners may well look to hold beyond next weekend, with Sunderland, Swansea, West Brom and Fulham in the subsequent five matches.

Zaha Still in Solskjaer’s Plans

The Cardiff boss confirmed Wilfried Zaha remains very much in his first-team thoughts, despite dropping the on-loan United wide man to the bench in Sunday’s defeat at Tottenham.

“Wilf’s been very positive since he’s come. He’s made a great contribution in some of the games. He’s got talent we’ll use in the next 10 games definitely.”

The Scout Says: After replacing Peter Whittingham as a first-half substitute in Gameweek 24, Zaha was handed a starting role in each of the Bluebirds’ subsequent three league games before a shift to 5-3-2 saw him drop out of the XI. Solskjaer’s constant tinkering, both in personnel and team shape, seem to be preventing his side from settling, though, and a distinct lack of cohesiveness has now seen the Welsh club fail to score in six of their eight matches under the new manager. With only five matches set to take place this weekend, Zaha owners will surely hold in the hope he will feature against Fulham but another stint on the bench may well see Fantasy owners look to the upcoming double Gameweeks for a potential replacement.

Sherwood’s Left-Back Worries Heighten

Ahead of Saturday evening’s trip to Stamford Bridge, Tottenham have real concerns in the left-back position. Reports in the local press indicate Danny Rose is expected to miss the next couple of league games with an ongoing knee problem, whilst Zeki Fryers was forced to withdraw from the England Under-21 squad with an ankle injury.

The Scout Says: Despite missing the likes of Kyle Walker and Younes Kaboul last weekend, Spurs manage to register a third clean sheet in the last four Gameweeks, with Fryers and Kyle Naughton deputising for Walker and Rose respectively. If Fryers and Walker miss out this weekend, Sherwood may be forced to switch Jan Vertonghen to left-back, providing Kaboul recovers in time, though the versatile Etienne Capoue offers an option at centre-half – he, too, is currently a doubt with an ankle problem. Given that Spurs then have Arsenal, Southampton and Liverpool as their following three opponents, anyone holding their defenders may be eyeing up a transfer out, despite their impressive recent form.

Mixed Injury News for Baggies

Billy Jones looks set for another spell on the sidelines after West Brom confirmed he suffered a hamstring tear in the Gameweek 27 draw with Fulham. Jones is expected to be out for around four weeks with the problem, though both Stephane Sessegnon and Claudio Yacob are back in full training and in contention to return against United this weekend.

The Scout Says: Jones’ absence is a real blow for Baggies boss Pepe Mel for the clash against David Moyes’ side. The right-back has managed just two lots of 90 minutes under the new manager, with his stint on the sidelines affording Steven Reid game time in the back-four. Whilst Yacob is likely to be re-installed in central midfield, Sessegnon has yet to feature since the departure of Steve Clarke due to an ongoing groin problem – after starting the Cottagers clash with a 4-4-1-1, Mel finished the game with a 4-3-3 formation and the Benin international is certainly versatile enough to operate on the right of a front three, for example. With Swansea, Hull, Cardiff and Norwich directly after the United clash, and a double Gameweek still to be announced, the Midlands outfit certainly have the fixtures to prevail.

          Morning,
Your choice would be most appreciated!

          Cech
          Ward - Chambers - Azpilicueta
          Mutch - Hazard - Snodgrass - Lallana
          Adebayor

(Mannone, Kompany, Kosceilny, Gerrard, Suarez, Sturridge)

          Rank 2k, Bank 4.0, 1FT.

          A) Mutch -> ?
          B) Kos -> ? i.e. Olsson or Dann.
          C) Hold. and get Bardsley (3games in hand) or Everton (2 games in hand) with excellent fixtures.

Kos is the transfer worth making - 9 is a perfectly decent number to get out but I just don't see many clean sheets over the next few games for him.

Olsson was the obvious choice but don't make that transfer given the injury news. Bassong could be a replacement, or Evra will play this week and then have a double.

Thanks Intransient. That's my concern, there's no defenders I want beyond GW29 so it would almost be like taking a -4 to get Olsson in, which doesn't look too good atm!

Definitely worth holding then - I'm very tempted by Evra but I think I might get Bassong and Rooney instead but you've already got 9 solid starters out so save the transfer, then get Coleman for Kos and then you've still got 2 FTs going into the DGW.

Thanks, this was exactly the type of reasoning I was looking for! +1s :).

So you'd be doning Benteke and Kos -> Bassong and Rooney? That's some major differentials. The Rooney one surprises me as Benteke has much better form.
Evra for you could be a good shout.

Difficult is I have Sturridge and Suarez and both are on huge price rises so unless I get rid of Benteke I can't get a striker out this week.

I see what you mean. I have them both too and there's no way I'd get rid.
The more I think about the Rooney move the more it makes sense. It gives you two extra games on top of those Benteke would have in the next four. Very nice! I'd rather Bardsley or Distin over Bassong but it's a solid move still.

Congrats on your season thus far Intransient - you should link your team properly to show it off! (put the link in the website section) 🙂

Cheers for the help - Distin and Bardsley both good options, I'm already on Baines at the moment so don't want to double up on Everton as did that before and it was useless!

The only caution with Bardsley I suppose is that one of his doubles will include City away and the other will include Liverpool away so those games could effectively render those single GWs.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

          Best gwk 29 differential.

I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that this is the best week of the year to take a hit for an outrageous differential. Most will be fielding less than 10 or 11 and will probably be taking hits. Most will probably be captaining Hazard or maybe RVP. There's a real opportunity to grab a cheeky differential this week and propel yourself up the charts. I'm even looking at taking a hit for a one week punt, before I focus on the double gameweekers.

So if, like me, you were minded to do possibly your only maverick move of the season - who would it be for.

I'm personally looking for a mid - but for others it could be a forward or even defender.

Let's get some good differentials who could score 10 plus points together here.

I think you'll struggle with this. There aren't many teams with a good GW29 who then have good fixtures after it... so it would be a one-weeker. That isn't really what you want with a DGW coming up when transfers are so valuable.

I'm ok with a one weeker this week. I have a particular player earmarked for Adam's place anyway. I can either do nothing this week and get nothing for that slot, or gamble 4 pts that the player I get in will get more than 4 pts. Anything over 4 is a win for me.

I'm going for a Chelsea defender as captain, back them to keep a CS. This could unravel if Hazard goes apeshit but he very rarely gets points against the so called top sides (he performs great in real life terms though)

The differential is largely the number of players you can/choose to get out given the complexities of the DGW and the possibility that e.g. Liverpool lose their DGW after the deadline.

For players, given a blank slate then away from the obvious I'd be looking at Shaw whose attacking against Liverpool was very threatening. Alternatively there's Vidic who is always going to be an occasional threat and has the advantage of 4 games in 3 weeks.

If Hull and Sunderland draw their FA Cup match, the replay COULD be placed into GW31 at the expense of their doubles.

If I were to waste a transfer I'd be interested with Berahino or Anichebe.
Berahino scored last time against United at OT while Anichebe is a bit on form at home scored against pool and chelsea. It'snot 10 pts though they could bring at least 5 pts.

              Current thoughts:

Schürrle - but will he get the game time?
              Dejagah - but it's Fulham
Walters - but will he get a penalty?

Schurrle is a great option. Chelsea need his directness, something they have been lacking by starting two number 10's in the middle and on the right (Willian, Oscar)

It seems everybody thinks Evra is not a good fantasy prospect...
He has 10 CSs, whereas Mert has 12 and Terry 11 - i.e. not bad.
And, he is good on the offense. I don't think he should be overlooked simply because Man Utd don't play very well.

Isn't captaincy the real differential this week? I'm torn between Hazard (good option given Spurs have major fullback issues), Lallana (two blanks and Palace will be tight at home), Mata (not explosive and in a team in terrible form) and Rooney (playing as a deep lying centre mid!)

Cheers everyone for the responses, A doesn't seem too bad for now and good to get a big hitter in for this week and gives me the flexibibility to keep Rooney for the double and get Yaya as at the moment getting Yaya and Aguero is looking difficult (plus I'm not convinced by Aguero's game time).

              This is my team:

              (Adrian) (Mannone)

              Evra Azpi Ward (Vlaar) (Davies)

              Haz Snodgrass (Mirallas) (Yaya) (AJ)

              Ade Lambert (Suarez)

Obviously I'm screwed this week, already used FT for Evra. I'm willing to take a hit for a new mid or goalie, any suggestions? Got 2.1 in bank.
              Thanks in advance! 🙂

                Is Mirallas ---> Mata affordable?

You would also get the DGW out of that.

Your grin gives it out that you know you're in for a crap round. Fast count, it will be between:

1+1+2+2 = 6, the bad but not absolutely worst case scenario where your players don't score and your defenders concede 2-3/each or just 1 and take yellow card. So no own goals, red cards, penalties or 6 goal deficits.

                and

6+8+11+11 = 36 for good but not absolutely best case scenario, where both your defenders keep clean sheet and both your midfielders score and get 3 bonus while Terry also gets 2 bonus. This is like the "reasonably best case scenario", something would be great for you but is also realistically on the cards, no hat tricks or even braces, no defender goals.

Oh, I counted Adam, Eriksen and Fabio out as they won't start, but Fabio could add you a 1 point cameo, maybe? And Eriksen, unless he is off with an injury and can't play at all.

So, I'm pretty confident your points will be between 6 and 38.

                Crap team.

I'm sitting with 7 players playing in GW29 and 2 free transfers. Options for GW29 are generally dire and only one week punts. So would the consensus be to use one transfer and go with 8 players and roll the free transfers on for the double GW?

How is this team for GW29 for -4 points:

              ------------------------- Marshall
              ------- Terry - Ivanovic - Chambers - Ward
              Hazard (C) - Mata - Lallana - Snodgrass - Noone
              -------------------------- JRod

I really hope that Noone & Snod will make it to play and I'll field 11

10x better than Valencia/Young... and United's best performance for a while came when he played (Mata/Rooney/RVP/Januzaj vs Palace)..

.. but Moyes will undoubtedly do the wrong thing. It's tempting though... but even though they have four games, none are great.

He was rested for their last game in Greece, he's had a long break, and United seriously lacked inspiration.
