Scout Notes

Scout Scribbles – International Round-Up

Daniel Sturridge fires England to victory over Denmark, with Adam Lallana supplying the assist. Robin van Persie shrugs off illness worries to play 90 minutes for Holland, with a trio of United midfielders all impressing on international duty. Brede Hangeland recovers from a weekend head knock to turn out for Norway, whilst Chelsea duo Oscar and Mohamed Salah are in the goals as Belgium take it easy on Eden Hazard:

Sturridge the Three Lions Hero

The Liverpool forward continued his outstanding season by notching England’s Wembley winner over Denmark. Whilst team-mate Luis Suarez drew a blank in Uruguay’s 1-1 draw against Austria, Sturridge – who started on the flank before moving to a central role after Wayne Rooney was replaced – grabbed the only goal for Roy Hodgson’s side, courtesy of an Adam Lallana assist.

The Scout Says: It’s 22 goals in 26 games for club and country in all competitions for Sturridge now after yet another impressive showing. With Liverpool set for the weekend off, both he and Suarez have been sold by almost 30,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers, though last night’s strike will again serve a reminder of his capabilities as the Reds edge towards the kindest double Gameweek 31 of any side, with a trip to Cardiff and home clash against Sunderland bound to attract huge investment in Brendan Rodgers’ team. Lallana’s ownership continues to grow this week as Southampton ready themselves for a trip to Selhurst Park. The Southampton skipper now sits in 35% of FPL sides – the sixth most popular player in the game – and with last night’s assist maintaining the form that has harvested a goal or assist in eight of his last 12 league appearances, many face a tough decision in Gameweek 31. Mauricio Pochettino’s side face a single fixture that week – a testing trip to Tottenham – but with Newcastle, Cardiff and Villa in the subsequent four fixtures, Lallana’s consistency is likely to persuade plenty to hold or bench.

Van Persie Fitness Amongst Positives for Moyes

The Dutchman was rated a doubt for last night’s friendly against France but recovered in time to play the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 defeat in Paris. David Moyes was afforded further reason for optimism ahead of Saturday’s trip to West Brom as a trio of midfielders all turned in impressive performances. Shinji Kagawa grabbed a goal and assist in Japan’s 4-2 win over New Zealand, Antonio Valencia provided a pair of assists in Ecuador’s 4-3 triumph over Australia, whilst Marouane Fellaini notched as Belgium drew 2-2 with Ivory Coast.

The Scout Says: The van Persie news will delight his owners and would-be suitors ahead of The Hawthorns clash. One of the few legitimate captaincy contenders this coming weekend, the Dutchman has notched four times in the last five Gameweeks and will fancy his chances against a backline yet to register a clean sheet under Pepe Mel. It remains to be seen whether Kagawa and Valencia’s displays will have any effect on David Moyes’ thinking, though. With Juan Mata and Adnan Januzaj both without a midweek match, the United boss may go for fresher legs bearing in mind the weekend showdown is an early lunchtime kick-off – certainly, Mata is a guaranteed starter, leaving the rest to battle it out for the remaining starting berth on the flank.

Hangeland and Mitroglou Boost for Cottagers

Forced off against Chelsea after suffering a head knock last weekend, the centre-half returned to action in Norway’s 2-2 draw with the Czech Republic. Fulham boss Felix Magath will be delighted to hear Hangeland not only proved his fitness, but lasted the full 90 minutes and also supplied an assist. Mitroglou, who has yet to start in the league since arriving in January, stepped up his fitness levels by turning out for 60 minutes in Greece’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of South Korea.

The Scout Says: Dropped for Rene Meulensteen’s final two matches in charge, Hangeland was immediately reinstalled to the heart of the Fulham back-four upon Magath’s arrival. After helping his side to a 1-1 draw at West Brom in Gameweek 27, Hangeland lasted less than 15 minutes last weekend before a clash of heads with Kieran Richardson forced him off, with Magath stating post match that his skipper’s absence was a key factor in the 3-1 loss. Mitroglou’s only start for the London club has come courtesy of a run out for the reserves, with Magath citing a lack of match fitness as the reason behind his absence. Last night’s return to action for both players bodes well for the Cottagers’ chances ahead of a vital trip to Cardiff this Saturday lunchtime as the bottom two go head-to-head in Wales.

Blues Midfield Duo in the Goals

In a night where Eden Hazard was afforded just 28 minutes for Belgium after replacing Everton’s Kevin Mirallas off the bench, a couple of Jose Mourinho’s attacking midfielders were amongst the goals for their respective countries. Mohamed Salah notched Egypt’s second in a 2-0 win over Bosnia, whilst Oscar also found himself on the scoresheet for Brazil before being replaced by team-mate Ramires at half-time. Willian was also afforded 45 minutes by the South Americans in a 5-0 cruise over South Africa.

Hazard played down any fears of an ankle problem after he was hacked down upon his introduction to the action:

“It hurt, but I think I can play this weekend. After 20 seconds I got a kick. A nice welcome, but I’m not worried about the injury.”

The Scout Says: Hazard’s Fantasy owners will no doubt be delighted with the winger’s limited game time ahead of Saturday evening’s crucial home clash with Tottenham, whilst the fact he played the rest of the match without any problems looks assuring. In spite of his endeavours, Salah is likely to be handed a bench role at best this coming weekend as the Chelsea boss continues to ease him into the first-team picture, whilst Oscar’s strike offers optimism for his 11% of FPL owners ahead of the weekend encounter. Bearing in mind Andre Schurrle notched three times last weekend, though, the German – snapped up by over 17,000 managers this week – could well retain his place on the flank, leaving Oscar (with one goal since Gameweek 12) and Willian (one strike since Gameweek 7) to battle it out for the role in “the hole” behind a lone forward.

So I can safely write off GW29 in terms of slightly recovered OR gained in the last few weeks and in all H2H MLs.
I'm sure worse things could happen to my team, like giving my mates my password early on a Friday evening.
Roll on next season and the UFPL game, and of course the best game of all in Metro, if they keep it.

Frank Lampard should've gone on loan to West Ham for the second half of this season. That would've been a grand way to finish his time in English football.

No way this is his last season. Not saying that as a Chelsea fan even, no guarantee he'll finish his career in Chelsea, but he'll definitely play at least another season.

Pretty stong words Dogba! There's not been the speculation there was this time last year, I sort of feel he'll be slipping out the back door which is less than he'd deserve.

He's still playing semi-regularly for the current league leaders in Premier League. Not like he's 40, I feel convinced he'll go at least another season, hopefully in Chelsea as a squad-player and maybe part-time coach 🙂 I reckon he still brings a lot to the locker room and on the training ground.

No doubt he'd be a massive presence at the club, but a player like that needs to play, don't you think there was anything in the rumours linking him to America?

Tough one. I can see why you'd want him to stick around but a year or two abroad would be great for him and English footballers I feel. His dad and Harry had a great time over there, it could be an influence.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Today's is from Evs. He asks: "What will be your dgw frontline and why?"

Sturridge Suarez Aguero. Boring, but likely effective. I HAVE RVP now, but plan is to drop for Aguero. He's just way more explosive this season and has better fixtures for the double.

      Aguero Suarez Rooney.

I brought in Rooney this GW and would be madness to sell for a hit. My ML rival will have Sturr and im chasing so I am hoping hes a decent differential. Also VERY unlikely that his DGW will be removed.

S&S and A.N.Other. Until either Sturridge or Suarez have a serious breakdown in form I don't see having a punt on Injury City players or those who might do quite well if they're not rotated too often for European priorities.
I understand perfectly transferring players in who actually are scoring well, but not transferring OUT players who are.

Liverpool have Cardiff away and Sunderland home for GW31, we can expect them to put both to sword so SS seems must have.Aguero has Fulham & MU and he's fixture proof (scores in every big match) so if affordable that's the frontline you'd like to have.

Do you guys think bringing in players like Nolan and AJohnson for the double is worth it considering their fixtures after it? AJ slightly more appealing due to more games but he can always be brought in later specifically for them. In short is it being slightly narrow minded?

Question for Mark & Gran on the Scoutcast...

With so many teams without a fixture this week, do you think an United defender is a good viable trade this week?

Obviously influenced by the dgw, but I don think their defensive form is that bad.

anyone worth it outside of Evra?

We talked about it again today. The difficulty is that we now record during the day and in a hour-long window. Last season we recorded in the evening but that's now more difficult for me as Billy has got older. We're going to try to find a solution - maybe by recording the Full Jonty separately and editing it in but that will make the ScoutCast a tad disjointed perhaps.

Numbers aren't as important as what the actual players are. I wouldn't take a hit for a player that you would want in GW31, I'd only take a hit for a player that was not playing or you wouldn't want to keep.

I have 7 at the moment, will have 8 after my transfer. I'm not too concerned as any other players I'd bring in I'd probobly want to ship out almost immediately. The majority of people will be unable to field a full 11, planning for the DGW is more important.

Right..Decided..It's go big or go home in the mini league...Studge, Mirallas, Vlaar > RVP, Evra,+ enabler..Rival is 80 pts ahead with no money so he can't afford Aguero or Studge (my pref choice) so it doesn't matter if I don't get them, and I need dome points..He only has four playing this week where I will have ten..with RVP (c)...Good plan ?...and which enabler ?

It's Mirallas that needs to go Doosra. I'm not convinced he's worth the DGW and It doubles up the chap I'm trying to catch, so it's pointless. My plan would be to bring Lukaku in for Everton alongside RVP for the DGW...So Mirallas > mid enabler.

It's getting to that point of the season where you need a miracle. RVP has the potential to be that miracle man I suppose. -4 or -8? Sterling as enabler? I know he doesn't play this GW, but he's cheap and a good DGW option.

WC next week? May be a serious option if I can find the funds with in 4 transfers.

      Confused me :

      A) Suarez->RVP and Silva->Mata (play with 11)
      B) Sturridge->Rooney and Silva->Mata (play with 11)
      C) Sturridge->RVP (play with 10)

      Help choose

Got two free transfers and have to use one, not sure where though....

      Szczesny Davis
      Coleman Koscielny Shaw Ward Bruce
      Hazard Yaya Lallana Ince Pozuelo
      Adebayor Suarez Sturridge

      2.8 in the bank

      A) Kosc > Azpi
      B) Pozuelo > Bradley Johnson
      C) Bruce > John
      D) Anything else?

Getting Aguero in gw30 so have 0.5 to play around with

      Kos-Smalling - save cash

One week punt on Vlaar -> Ben Turner?

He play Fulham at home, I have two transfers, nothing else I can really do and would mean I get 9 players out instead of 8

This week, I feel like I'm in a car driving toward a forest and instead of trying to heroically steer around the trees, I'm going to close my eyes, put my foot down and hope I come out the other side with only a few scratches...

Yes, this perfectly sums up how I feel about GW29.

So my 7 players for GW29 atm -

      Terry - Ivanovic
      Mata - Lallana - Hazard - Puncheon
      Ade

(Adrian, Mannone, Vlaar, Kosc, Bruce, Sterling, SAS)

I have 2FT this week - comments on this plan up to GW31 please? -

GW29 - Koscielny & Ade out for Chambers & RVP
      GW30 - Bruce out for Demel/Distin
GW31 - Lallana & RVP out for Silva & Kun for -4 ( Giving me 8 DGW players)

I know it seems strange taking out my only striker with a game next week, but I don't want to drop one of SAS as I will want to buy them back for GW31. I dont see Ade getting more than 2 points at Stamford Bridge, and with Spurs in the Europa League still, I'm happy to let him go. I am also looking for a differential in my mini league and think RVP could be my best bet.
