PlayON Player Picks – Gameweek 30

After a brief hiatus last week, we roll out our player picks for PlayON, the weekly Fantasy Football game, once again this Friday lunchtime. We’re on the lookout for potential bargains in our assessment of this week’s PlayON Price List, with some eye-catching value on offer from the blue half of Merseyside:

If you’re new to PlayON, it is weekly Fantasy Football so you can dip in and out of playing throughout the season. Once your starting XI is built you can compete for cash.

Similarly, you can challenge other players to one-on-one games, selecting the amount at stake. The likes of Robbie Fowler, Les Ferdinand and OptaJoe are all playing the game and are there to be challenged for free or for £1. The Fantasy Football Scout team is also available to be challenged and has a 51% win rate up to this point. You can also create an open challenge against anyone else on the site – just click the amount you want to play for and the number of slots (number of people who can accept your challenge) on the one-on-one page .

For a more in-depth introduction to PlayON, take a look at this season’s introduction article.

Goalkeeper – Tim Howard
The Everton keeper is available for a cut-price 7.9m this weekend ahead of a home showdown with Cardiff. Roberto Martinez’ side have conceded just one goal in their last three games at Goodison Park, and with the Bluebirds failing to score in each of their previous trio of road trips, the hosts will be confident of delivering an eleventh clean sheet of the season. Swansea’s Michel Vorm is also on our budget radar this weekend. Setting you back a mere 7.4m, the Dutchman has been beaten just once in his last five home appearances and he’ll be confident of keeping the Baggies at bay, given that Pepe Mel’s men have failed to score more than once in each of their last five fixtures. If you’re willing to pay a little more, Southampton’s Artur Boruc is available for 8.5m ahead of a home clash with Norwich.

Defender – Dejan Lovren
Having recovered from illness earlier in the week, the Southampton centre-half sets you back a mere 7.7m in this week’s PlayON player price list. Lovren offers the prospect of points at both ends of the pitch against Norwich tomorrow – he’s already notched twice this term and will be optimistic of keeping a clean sheet, given that the Canaries have scored only three times in their previous six away matches. Sunderland’s Phil Bardsley has also scored twice this term and, priced at 8.3m, welcomes Crystal Palace to the Stadium of Light, with Tony Pulis’ charges scoring just once in their last four on the road. Further up the budget bracket, Leighton Baines is difficult to ignore for Everton’s home clash with Cardiff. A price of 8.7m shouldn’t be any deterrent for the Toffees left-back, whose raids down the left are sure to pose the visitors plenty of problems.

Midfielder – David Silva
Manchester City return to league action this weekend after their previous couple of league matches were postponed due to cup commitments. Manuel Pellegrini’s side now find themselves nine points behind Chelsea but with three games in hand – a trip to Hull on Saturday lunchtime won’t be easy, but if City are to prevail and keep their title bid on track, Silva, at 8.8m, is likely to be instrumental. Fulham’s Pajtim Kasami is currently a doubt after being forced off against Cardiff last weekend but, having been re-installed to the starting line-up under Felix Magath, the 7.1m-priced wide man has already found the net this term and is set to welcome Newcastle to Craven Cottage tomorrow. Everton’s Ross Barkley is also worth considering – at just 7.5m, his penchant for a long shot is favoured by the PlayON scoring matrix.

Forward – Romelu Lukaku
Since recovering from an ankle injury, the big Belgian has scored in each of his two appearances across all competitions for Everton. Coming in at a cut-price 9.6m, Lukaku’s power and pace could well prove the undoing of Cardiff’s porous backline tomorrow afternoon as Roberto Martinez’ men look to bounce back from last week’s disappointing FA Cup exit at Arsenal. With Sergio Aguero more than doubtful to feature in City’s trip to Hull, Edin Dzeko is likely to lead the line and can be picked up for a reasonable 10.6m for the KC Stadium encounter. Sunderland’s Fabio Borini, at 10.7m, could be one to consider at home to Crystal Palace. The Italian has netted twice in his last four league starts and, shifted to the lone forward role against City in the Capital One Cup final, opened the scoring in the Black Cats’ 3-1 defeat.

Why is the minimum deposit/withdrawal £10? I played when the website was first announced on here but never since. The fact it is £10 to buy back in puts me off. If it was £5, I'd play but £10 is a bit steep.

        Hi Arastrick,

The minimum deposit and withdrawal is £10 as there are transaction costs involved in processing each payment, which we have to account for.

On the new site will you have the option to view your team after the deadline? Sometimes i can't remember who i have picked and when the team news is filtering through it would be nice to have the option of checking.

        Hi D1sable,

Yes on the new site, once the deadline passes you will be able to see all other teams immediately and we are also introducing in-play games so you will be able to continue entering your teams in games as the matches unfold. As you will be able to see other people's teams, you will be able to challenge specific teams rather than players too.

Ruud had a great career start, he is second for most goals scored after 100 FPL games, 68 behind Shearer 79.

think liverpool have had 7 pens this season, he could already have the record. it's silly that despite playing exactly the same he could be 7 goals worse off by simply not being the penalty taker

    Boruc

    Azpilicueta | Coleman | Mertesacker

    Ince | Lallana | Hazard | Mata

    Lambert | Suarez | Rooney

    Subs: Mannone | Sterling | M. Olsson | John

    This is a bit odd

West Ham's top scoring defender Demel has 84 points
Adrian and Jask have a combined total of 142 points

Demel has only failed to complete 60 minutes in 6 matches, 2 of which were clean sheets. Yet the GK position still has 56 points more

Having never owned Yaya this year, to my cost, I guess I will have to bring him in for the DGW. So, why does it still seem "wrong" bringing him in ahead of Silva or Nasri?

Think I'm going with if has penalties (i.e Aguero is out) and without if he doesn't.

My expert analysis for Manchester Utd vs Liverpool this Sunday: United cross the ball a lot and Liverpool can't defend crosses.

If United put in a similar performance to their one against Fulham then there's only one outcome:

    82-0 to United .

LFC scores a lot of goals. MUFC doesn't score a lot of goals. 0-10 to Suarez.

Hey Demi, In one of my ML's where I have only 1 transfer left for the entire year, I can pick up Sturridge this week or possibly save it and get Aguero later. Do you think Agg will ever come good? I've been saving that move for several weeks to have Aggie for the stretch run....but do you think I should give up on him and just grab Sturridge finally admitting that it is the smarter move? Cheers.

I think Sturridge is the safer move given Aguero's injury problems which is kind of ironic. Also think Liverpool will score more than City till the rest of the season so prefer him. City's fixtures are a bit tougher too, and they have more options upfront, so Aguero will rarely play 90 imo

Repost still unsure, help would be appreciated
RMT: Currently have this have a -4

    Mannone Adrian
    Chambers azp Distin (Olsson, Turner)
    AJ Yaya Lallana Hazard 4.0M
    Suarez Sturridge Ade

    4.7M ITB

My plan was to get Aguero and Nolan and maybe a hull def for the DGW but now it looks like aguero is out but even if hes not he won't play a big enough part, so want should i do with my funds?

For next week Lallana > Nolan (if aguero is out) Ade > Luk and turner> baines? should i take a extra hit to do turner > baines this GW?

    Current Team:
    Boruc (Mannone)

Lallana, Silva, Hazard (Noone 1st sub for Aguero!), (Bellamy)
    Aguero, Suarez, Sturridge
    3.1m

I can wildcard to this with Aguero crocked:

    ADRIAN (Mannone)
    Ward, Coleman, BAINES, Azpi, (Chester)
    AJ, YAYA, Hazard, GERRARD, Noone
    LUKAKU, Suarez, Sturridge
    1.7m

Since Johnny Kills is actually in your Grav, you must be fond of him, so keep him (he has a double anyway and no other competitions to fight through) and get Baines later.

Another time when you realize you're thinking about this FFS site too much:
I was writing a note to my brother (who doesn't even know what FPL is) about something on TV...and I instantly thought that I should write out Television because he might think TV means Team Value. Yup.

Sooooooooo... time to make some moves for a DGW push I guess. I'm thinking

Dann & Snodgrass & Aguero -> Coleman & Yaya & Lukaku (c) for -8 points hit giving me 8 DGWers with 6 of them attackers.

    Mannone
    Chambers Azpilicueta Dann*
    Mata Hazard Snodgrass* AJ
    Sturridge Suárez Agüero*

Subs: Adrián Noone Olsson Ward. 1FT 3.5M in the bank.

cheers for the replies! so split (not surprised). Leaning towards lukaku, as cash in the bank is always handy. Could also allow me to draft in a priceish DGW defender while keeping both my chelsea defs.
