Sky Sports Focus – Gameweek 38

It’s Friday afternoon and with only the last two Gameweeks remaining, we roll out our weekly look at the Sky Sports Fantasy game. We cast an eye over the pertinent stats, which include the Man of the Match (MoTM) awards, bonus point beneficiaries and current market trends and, as always, look ahead to the forthcoming fixtures, offering our preferred captain setup for Gameweek 38.

Gameweek 37 Man of the Match Awards

Here’s a match-by-match breakdown of the players that won the plaudits from the Sky Sports reporters last time out, earning five additional points for the Man-of-the-Match award.

FixtureMoTM
Fulham vs HullAshkan Dejagah
Man United vs NorwichWayne Rooney
Southampton vs EvertonSteven Davis
Stoke vs TottenhamEmmanuel Adebayor
Swansea vs Aston VillaWilfried Bony
West Brom vs West HamBen Foster
Crystal Palace vs Man CityYaya Toure
Liverpool vs ChelseaDemba Ba
Sunderland vs CardiffConnor Wickham
Arsenal vs NewcastleMesut Ozil

A number of differential forwards popped up this week to offer the mavericks amongst us some enticing options, with Connor Wickham, in particular, surprising many with his recent displays. There was also a return to form for Arsenal’s record signing Mesut Ozil, who, after a great start, has flattered to deceive somewhat until now – Sky’s preference towards playmaking midfielders may help him earn more MoTM awards and pick up some serious points over the two remaining Gameweeks.

Gameweek 37 Bonus Points

Four goalkeepers managed five saves or more – Chelsea’s stand in keeper Mark Schwarzer was the top performer with eight saves and a clean sheet. Vito Mannone is still the bonus darling overall with 30 additional points.

In defence, nine players gathered bonus, six for tackles and three for passes completed – Southampton centre-back Dejan Lovren was the player closet to achieving both missing out by just 15 completed passes. Swansea’s Angel Rangel leads the way for the defenders with 28 extra bonus points.

In midfield, 13 players earned bonus points – nine for tackling and seven for passes. Play-makers Aaron Ramsey, Philippe Coutinho and Mikel Arteta were the three players to manage both. Mikel Arteta is now the games top bonus earner overall with 46 extra points.

The Transfer Trends

Top Transfers Out

HazardChelsea8.85.83%
SilvaMan City8.45.42%
TerryChelsea75.41%
BainesEverton7.74.49%
CechChelsea5.84.05%

David Silva and Petr Cech look the least likely to feature this week and look like reasonable transfers at this stage, though Eden Hazard, John Terry and Leighton Baines are all fit for the coming Gameweek.

Top Transfers In

NameTeamValue% of Managers
RamseyArsenal5.810.94%
ToureMan City8.69.44%
SterlingLiverpool4.84.52%
GiroudArsenal8.53.71%
AgueroMan City9.83.38%

Aaron Ramsey and Yaya Toure were drafted in by around 10% of managers after their return from injury and look great options for the remainder of the season. Raheem Sterling is still the budget midfielder of choice as he continues to deliver decent returns, whilst forwards Olivier Giroud and Sergio Aguero find themselves drafted in by around 3.5%

Gameweek 38 Proposed Captain Strategy

Looking ahead to the captaincy choices for Gameweek 38 there is a multitude of options available due to fixtures on five separate days, with enough transfers then you could opt for a five captain approach!

Our Strategy:
Juan Mata (Home to Sunderland) → Juan Mata (Home to Hull) → Sergio Aguero (Home to Aston Villa)

We tipped Wayne Rooney for a haul last week and also backed him for MoTM which thankfully he delivered on both accounts. With a new found feeling of positivity around Old Trafford at the moment, we turn to United again but with Rooney now a doubt along with Robin Van Persie, Juan Mata is perhaps the safest option ahead of two favourable home fixtures.

A quick transfer or captain switch to Yaya Toure or Sergio Aguero for the final day of fixtures in this Gameweek looks a good option as Man City host a struggling Aston Villa side at the Etihad.

Of course if you still have transfers remaining and are tempted to go for the monthly prize you could transfer out your captain each new fixture day and therefore have five captains for the week, therefore increasing your odds of hitting a winner massively.

Tough call. If you can get him in otherwise, it'd be much better IMO.

So I think I've decided I'm going to keep Rooney but still bring RVP in. I'll have decent first sub so no worries if Rooney doesn't play. This team worth it for (-8)?

      Jones* - Azpi - Kosc
      Yaya* - Nasri* - Ramsey - Eriksen

On GW29 when Suarez had a blank weekend, I swapped him out for RVP. It may have worked, but Van Persie got only an assist, so I ended up losing 600k to buy back Suarez. I could make that move this week but it would be for -4 and Suarez doesn't have a blank.

What do y'all think of a Rooney => RVP move? There are plusses and minuses for both, just don't know which one has more upside for the upcoming DGW.

On one hand, from the press reports, it sounds as if Rooney will miss the Sunderland match. RVP could then get some significant minutes in that game. RVP would be an incredible differential, if he got into the DGW matches.

On the other hand, Rooney might miss that game but Wellbeck or Chicharito get most of the minutes up top due to RVP's lack of match fitness.

Or, maybe Roons makes a "miracle" recovery and plays in both games?

      HELP!!!! 😉
