Yesterday we offered further congratulations to Chris McGurn who bettered over two million Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers to win the crown, but he is just one of a few Fantasy Football Scout champions deserving of a round of applause.

With the untimely demise of the “Can You Kick It” game we took it on ourselves -after a World Cup dry run- to take up Metro Fantasy Football on their offerings as our “bit on the side” and now we have our first official champion.

I begrudgingly abdicate my World Cup throne to a more than worthy winner by the name of Pascal Evans

Pascal’s late surge up the rankings has not only won him the Fantasy Football Scout title (pocketing himself a fancy iPad machine courtesy of the folks at Metro for his efforts) but he also has the small matter of business of finishing second in the overall rankings and pocketing £2,500 hard cash in the process.

If anyone -be it the girlfriend, wife or misunderstanding friends- say there isn’t anything to be gained from playing Fantasy Football then I’m sure Pascal has two thousand and five hundred answers to that question tucked in his back pocket. Even those devout FPL managers need know that there is certainly gold in them there hills.

Added congratulations must also go to the unfortunate Andy Potter (otherwise known as Aldershot Rejects on our site) who is sat in a highly commendable fifth place overall but having lead for many weeks likely won’t have recovered from his late stumble just yet. My colleague Big Dunc also deserves a pat on the back for his 99th place. The swine.

So congratulations to those guys and one more time especially for Pascal, who is no doubt counting his money while playing an extra-large game of Angry Birds as you read this. Well done.

Further congratulations (and details) on our FPL Head to Head leagues will be with you next week as well whoever decides to pilfer another of my titles and win the Fantasy Football Scout Champions League crown this Saturday evening.

Andy Leicester won the Premier League. Leicester. Premier League. What is this life? Follow them on Twitter

Decent prizes in Metro though. Instead of a kodak £6.99 one-use instacamera. Not that I expect to win, just nice to know its there.

        +1

I gave up after the first couple of weeks this season. I prefer FPL.

To think I ended 2nd in last years FFS CL league. Andy beat by 5 points if I'm not mistaken.

last season started the FCL and after 2 weeks lost interest

came back to look at it in the semi-finals to see that at the end of the group phase i was top 2k

forgot about it this season, but after such a dissapointing campaign in fpl i will give it a go again next year, but my heart will always be here

Not paticularly. The points scoring is totally different and inflated, e.g. points for passes, tackles and interceptions, along with big rewards for goals, think it's 25 points for a striker goal.

Played it during the world cup and surprisingly really liked the format. They updated players points live during matches, and it can be quite addicitng watching your player constabtly getting points during a game for just making passes and tackles. Definatley doing it next year.

That sounds good. Hopefully my twin sons will be sleeping at night by then and i'll be awake enough to enter a team. Could do with some cash prizes so I can afford all the nappies! £50 work mini league prize doesn't go far.

I'm tempted by the Metro one this year. The world cup one was great and I ended up in the top 500 somewhere....much better scoring and the in game scoring was superb...like liveff but worked.

Prizes are better. When will FPL up their prize?

only fear is that will it take my eye off the FPL ball?

Because it's not the first time that he's withdrawn (or attempted to) journalist access due to questions he doesn't like, and for more frivolous reasons than this. To me, that's bullying because he's trying to use his weight and influence to get his own way. If this was the only example of it, then I wouldn't question it, but it really isn't.

Yes, congrats to Pascal also to Paul who came third overall who is also a visitor to this site but wasn't in the Scout league. And yes, I am still gutted. I thought I might be in with a shout of the £15k first prize. Also missed out on one of the monthly prizes of £1k by finishing fourth having led with one week left. I content myself with the fact that it is all a matter of luck 😉

Were you still in with a shout going into the final week? I was nervous enough about holding onto top spot in my work mini league with a £50 prize, let alone £15K! Think I would have been close to a breakdown if there was that much cash involved.

Yep; although my team was wrecked by injuries, rotation so I wasn't expecting to win. Second could have happened if Berbatov and others had scored big, as could third (£1k). When Lescott's goal went in (Pascal had him in his team), I knew it wasn't going to be my day.

I almost feel guilty about how lucky I've been with Lescott's 2 goals in 2 weeks. Almost.

The three baps to him make up for the travesty of Silva's two the week before.

Yeah same. I feel we deserve the three cleanies as that's what we all brought him in for, knowing he was a guaranteed starter, but I can understand rivals raging about the 6+6+3 flukey points on top of them!

I know I'd be sick if my rival got that kind of luck. (oh wait he did with Hangeland)

Although Hamburger SV have been linked with Barton, this rumour has only come from the British press, and not the German media. As HSV have announced that they want to recruit a younger squad (Jeffrey Bruma will sign from Chelsea later this week, Ruud van Nistelrooy is being sold to Malaga), getting Barton wouldn't seem to fit in with this policy.

The idea of Barton enjoying a quiet, sober night out on Hamburg's notorious Reeperbahn is potentially hilarious however. What could possibly go wrong?

not getting relegated is the best they can hope for. and no need to give the fans (if there are any) or the players false hopes, he's not gonna fool anyone anyway.

plus there you have levels of ambitions like: trying to avoid relegation, staying clear of relegation, mid table, top half.... so in my opinion he's aiming to jump 3 levels in 1 season....

True that, I think he is a victim of playing at a 'smaller' (ie not big in Spain) English club. He must be as good as if not better than Capdevilla (I assume he is the LB).

Concerning the Metro game-while I like certain aspects of it, they shoukd have kept it the same format as the World Cup version where you can sub in your bench players if they have a game on the following day for example. Lack of bench fluidity hurt it IMO like auto subs. Also, not having the option to select a 3-4-3 formation was a poor decision.

So it looks like Ashley Young could become a United player. Interesting to see what will happen, I suppose he will be a replacement for Giggs when he retires but surely someone has to go?

We all know how much Fergurson loves Valencia, so much so he displaced a Nani on tremendous form. Can you imagine Nani or Young being happy with a bench slot? Could nani be cashed?

I'm going to cover all correct scores where Barcelona don't win ranging from 0-0 to 3-3.

Worked out the maths earlier, and from £200 total staked, I can guarantee a profit of £60 if Barcelona don't win (and if United don't score more than 4 goals!). Will probably then put that £60 on a Barcelona win @ 11/10 (Stan James).

So it's basically a free bet of £60 on Barcelona! Or United somehow manage to score 4 goals, and I'm completely f*cked.

Nah, because Paddy Power are refunding all losing correct score bets - if Barcelona win 90 mins.

So, if Barcelona don't win in 90 minutes, I'll win at least £60 on one of my correct score predictions (0-0, 0-1, 0-2, 0-3, 1-1 etc....).

And if Barcelona do win, then all my correct score bets will just be refunded.

i'm going higher than 200 if that is the case

i assume he's allowed for the 200 to be split evenly over the number of bets??

i'll be looking out for you after tonight lyon, to see how your calcs went

I'm not the best with betting odds etc, but are you suggesting staking £200 of bets on correct scores for the match? The money back special for Paddy Power T&C states maximum £100 given back per customer. Were you aware of that?

                  Ah, I wasn't.

It's fine though, halve each stake, and you're then guaranteed a £45 profit if Barcelona don't win.

But massive thanks for the heads-up though... Probably would have dived straight in with the £200 staked, without having properly read the T&Cs...

May give the scheme a go myself. Where does the £45 profit come from then if Barcelona don't win? I'm starting to get confused now! lol

work out how much you win with each correct score

                    they are all about 290

If Barcelona don't win, then one of the correct score bets will come in, and will give you a profit of around £45. All £100 will get refunded if Barcelona do win.

    Reply to Dan:

I'll give it ago.... I actually got it wrong earlier, you can secure a profit of £90 from £200 staked.

    0-0: £38.77 @ 13/2
    0-1: £29.04 @ 9/1
    0-2: £16.10 @ 17/1
    0-3: £5.18 @ 55/1
    0-4: £1.28 @ 225
    1-1: £47.98 @ 5/1
    1-2: £19.19 @ 14/1
    1-3: £8.08 @ 35/1
    1-4: £2.30 @ 125/1
    2-2: £19.19 @ 14/1
    2-3: £5.68 @ 50/1
    2-4: £1.64 @ 175/1
    3-3: £3.79 @ 75/1
    3-4: £0.96 @ 300/1
    4-4: £0.82 @ 350/1

So, if any of those correct score bets come in, you're £90 in profit. And if they don't, i.e. Barcelona win*, you get all the money back thanks to the money back offer. From there you can obviously manipulate the £90 profit/£0 profit situation however you like, just by backing Barcelona to win in 90 minutes, at around evens.

*or United score 5 goals in 90 minutes. 😕

P.S. Obviously if any of the odds change, the maths would have to be re-calculated, and the numbers I've written above would be completely invalid.

Belatedly seen the Everton v Chelsea highlights. Fair enough Coleman had to go, but Lampard and Terry really show their lack of class - shouting and giving out towards a young player in his first season in the division. Really worth it.

      Agreed, begrudgingly.

Did you hear about Terry at the final whistle too? Apparently when our players went to applaud our fans, Terry stuck a middle finger up at the Everton fans who were [apparently] also clapping our players, at least the majority were.

      Classy as ever. 😕
