PlayON Returns with £10,000 Pot in Gameweek 1

We’re delighted to announce that PlayON is back for season 2014/2015 and is about to embark on a new exciting era. What’s more, the game starts the new season in style with a staggering £10,000 prize pot on offer, just for Gameweek 1.

PlayON is a weekly Fantasy game which challenges you to pick a starting XI from the Premier League squads, limited by a budget of £100 million. There is no restriction on the number of players you can sign from each club and you must build your squad in a 4-4-2 formation. Simple.

PlayON has proven popular amongst our community and this season the game is introducing an array of new concepts that opens it up to fresh strategies and opportunities to win.

The game is introducing Live In-Play games – so, even when the team-picking deadline has passed (two hours before the first kick-off each week), you can still get involved with In-Play one-on-one and multiplayer games as the matches are unfolding in real-time.

What interesting is that you’ll be able to use not just your teams to enter In-Play games, but you can now also search through all teams created by other users in the Gameweek and add any of their teams to your list of teams (only available after the team-picking deadline passes so all teams are locked at this point). So, if Wayne Rooney nets a hat-trick in the early kick-off on Saturday, you can search for all teams that include Rooney in the lineup and use any of them to enter In-Play games, with you getting the benefit of any points the team has already accumulated.

The really exciting thing here is if people use your teams to enter In-Play games, you can earn a percentage of their winnings. So, even if you’re not intending to enter any games yourself, you can still create three teams each week and if other PlayON managers use them to enter games and win, you earn a percentage of the cash. You can also control what percentage of the winnings you want in order to allow people to use your teams and you can amend this percentage in real-time as the weekend unfolds.

It all kicks-off this Saturday, with that £10,000 pot on offer. You can only enter your own teams into the £10,000 game as entries for that game close on Saturday at 10.45, before the Live In-Play games start. Thereafter, the In-Play games, Using Other People’s Teams and Earning money from others using your teams begins. It is, as they say, “a whole new ball game”.

Look out for a more in-depth guide to key tactics and new modes of play on Thursday and for our Gameweek 1 PlayON Picks from midday on Friday. For now, though, head on over to PLAYON.CO to start selecting your teams.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    THE ONE IN FOUR TEAM

    Howard (26.3%)
    Lovren (29.2%) Shaw (26.0%) Vlaar (21.9%)
    Ramsey (30.7%) Barkley (28.4%) Sterling (27.7%) Sanchez (23.1%)
    Rooney (43.1%) Sturridge (29.4%) Diego Costa (27.2%)

Here's the game's most polar players in the most popular formation. Obviously the team value allows just 11m for the bench spots (impossible) but Sanchez (23.1%) aside, these players feature in every fourth team you are up against.

As an owner, the one in four team is the safe zone when it comes to performance. These players won't hurt you so much when they under perform in your team, and they won't benefit you so much when they bring home the bacon, as they feature in more sides than their alternatives.

As a non-owner, these guys are the high risk zone. A big performance from one of them will see more than a quarter of your rivals steal a march on you unless you got the alternative pick bang on. That said, if they do fail, you get to breeze past the masses with your genius N'Zogbia* punt.

    1) How many one in four players do you own?
    2) Which of them do you think is a major concern as a non-owner?
    3) Who would you consider your major differential (ownership below 5%)?

*Charles N'Zogbia may not be a genius punt...

I own just 3 of those. But the back line would not worry me because whilst sanchez/costa et all could easily storm to a massive early points haul - there is no way in hell ron vlaar is going to be the top defender come game week 10, 20, 30 or 38...

I have just developed a theory - knowing how tempting (for me) it is to WC to bring in the players who get off to the best start before they suddenly go up 0.5m in value, and bearing in mind there is a 2 week international break between GWs 3 and 4, who will be the top players based on GWs 1-3 only?
Rooney/Mata seems an obvious choice, Palace have decent fixtures 1-3, Spurs?

What's the reason to avoid double attackers? I've seen people say 'no more than one attacker from each team'.. I double up , team is (needs a tweak)

    Mannone (Myhill)
    Debuchy Cameron Evans (Haidara, Bruce)
Mata Fabregas Ramsey Henderson (AL Ahmadi)
    Rooney Giroud Costa

my logic is if one scores theres a likelihood the other will get the assist . or is my logic flawed?

It's absolutely fine and probably encouraged if a team has established attacking pedigree. It is, however, riskier at the start of the year when player prices fluctuate violently on the basis of one good or bad performance. Having one from each team makes you a little more nimble in that market at first.

maybe Cahill to Luis. A slight punt but Luis has had a full preseason and he was signed to give Hazard attacking freedom so he makes a good case to start. Otherwise you can go for Punchy to Davis, who will be a main man at Sotton. Or downgrade your bego to Krul (newcastle kept more CS than Stoke last season).
