The Weekend Team News

Laurent Koscielny is ruled out for Arsenal. Ross Barkley is nearing a return for Everton. West Ham welcome back Mark Noble against Burnley, who are boosted by the availability of Danny Ings and Kieran Trippier. Fabian Delph emerges as a doubt for Villa, but Ron Vlaar is fit again. Mame Diouf and Victor Moses return to training for Stoke, while Hugo Lloris and Nacer Chadli remain doubts for Spurs.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Seamus Coleman, Steven Pienaar and James McCarthy are all “very close to being available” for the weekend, having missed recent outings through injury. The Everton boss also delivered positive news on Ross Barkley confirming the youngster had “reacted really well” in training following a serious knee injury, though admits it’s too early to tell if Barkley will be involved against Aston Villa.

Laurent Koscielny has added to Arsenal’s injury concerns ahead of the home clash with Hull. Arsene Wenger confirmed that the defender won’t be in contention tomorrow but revealed he won’t need surgery on his troublesome Achilles. Elsewhere, Aaron Ramsey is expected to return for Champions League duties in midweek, Mikel Arteta is available once again, while Tomas Rosicky “should be available” after sustaining a knock on international duties. Theo Walcott and Serge Gnabry have both made a return to full training following long-term injuries, though Wenger has quashed suggestions that either player could be available for the Tigers clash.

West Ham are set to be boosted by the return of Mark Noble from a calf injury. The midfielder has “trained most of this week, so he should be fine”, according to Sam Allardyce. Enner Valencia returned late from international duty and will be monitored, though Allardyce expects the forward to be fine to play against Burnley.

Sean Dyche has confirmed that David Jones, Kieran Trippier, Danny Ings and Nathaniel Chalobah are all in contention for the weekend after recovering from recent injuries. Midfielder Dean Marney remains “touch and go”, while the Clarets Michael Keane (knee) will be assessed and Steven Reid misses out with a minor groin problem.

Villa’s Ron Vlaar is available once again after recovering from a calf injury, though Paul Lambert has revealed that Philippe Senderos is a doubt with a thigh strain. Midfielder Fabian Delph injured his shoulder during the week and is also doubtful for the Toffees clash, though the Villa boss could welcome back Christian Benteke to the starting XI. When pressed on the Belgian’s starting prospects, Lambert revealed that Benteke is “in the squad, and there’s a good chance.”

Alan Pardew has quelled fears that Tim Krul could be sidelined for a period of time with a shoulder problem, by revealing that the Dutch stopper is fit to face Leicester this weekend. Full-backs Daryl Janmaat and Paul Dummett will also be available after recovering from their respective knocks. Meanwhile, the Magpies boss confirmed Gabriel Obertan will retain his place in the starting XI against the Foxes.

Mark Hughes has revealed that Victor Moses and Mame Biram Diouf should both be fit for the weekend, following recent thigh and hamstring problems respectively. Glenn Whelan though, has emerged as a doubt after coming off against Germany in midweek with a knee problem.

Nacer Chadli (hip) and Hugo Lloris (groin) are Mauricio Pochettino’s main injury concerns ahead of the early Saturday kick-off at the Etihad. Emmanuel Adebayor and Nabil Bentaleb are likely to be monitored, having not yet returned from their midweek international trips.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter stream as breaking news unfolds.

How would you improve this team?? (Tempted by C or D.)

    Krul / Mannone
    Ivanovic / Bertrand / Moore / Wilson / Taylor
    Boyd / Sigurdsson / ADM / Sterling / Fábregas
Balotelli / Ulloa / Diego Costa

2 FT 1.9M in the bank

    A) Balotelli + Ulloa -----> Pelle + Welbeck
    B) Balotelli + Ulloa -----> Aguero + Naismith
    C) Balotelli + Ulloa + Ivanovic ------> Aguero + Sakho + Baines(-4)
    D) Balotelli + Fab + Ivanovic -----> Aguero + Cazorla + Baines(-4. Could get Baines next week for free too)
    E) Balotelli ----> Welbeck. Can get rid of Ivan + Fab + Ulloa next week ---> Baines + Chadli + Aguero

Hi guys, I've a little question for you.

I already have in mind a mini-plan to finally offload Ferdinand/Chester for Duff/Chambers and I'm getting Duff this week so I can afford the other transfer next week. The question is: who do I sell first?

Ferdinand has got a better fixture next week in case someone else gets injured and I get stuck with him again, but he looks the one more likely to drop in price soon and I'd loathe to lose another 0.1m on a player I want to boot asap.

    Rest of defence is:

    Krul Foster
    Moreno Clyne Hutton Chester Ferdinand

So if I sell Ferdinand first and an attacker gets injured, I may also play the first three next week.

So, who would you sell first?

Ivanovic, Shawcross and Ulloa to Aguero, Chambers and upto a 4.8m defender for a -4 worth it?

Will be doing this tomorrow btw. Who would you buy as the last defender? I'm thinking of getting Hutton and saving some money. Got Moreno, Clyne and Moore as my others.

The money saved allows me to bring in Azpi the next week. So all I'm losing is Ivan's attacking threat but gaining Aguero through that.

Yeah, I basically could either do this or have both Baines and Ivanovic with Pelle up front.

I've convinced myself to go down this route now, just not sure if its worth the -4.

Posted this earlier but didnt get many responses here.

Thoughts on this lads. PVA and Fab out for Baines and Chadli was my planned move, but what with the uncertainty of ditching Fab, Chadlis injury coupled with the fact he's playing City, means I think I will make the move next week. At the moment I can't afford Mane or any other higher priced mids as alternatives, so will have an advantage next week too as I can ditch Moreno instead of PVA and have a playable backline. Have to keep Moreno this week as Chambers out, otherwise I would have play PVA against SOU. Taking a punt on a defender this week so for 4.5m. Thinking Bellerin. Though Arsenals backline concerns me.

Essentially Bellerin & Fab or Baines and Chadli? For one week only.

Fantasy Football Scout daily hot topic

Is Baines really the best route into Everton's kind run?

Do others like Lukaku or Naismith offer a either a greater chance of points or better value? And how has having Baines effected the balance of your team?

I really think Naismith is the ultimate value at his price.

He is a BAPS king as well. If he scores, you'd be pretty certain to rack up 8-9 points. That's awesome at his price.

I don't like Baines too much. Everton are gonna conceded heaps with EL taking it's toll. We've seen this happen to teams playing EL over the years.

1). He has lost his form. Dramatically.
2). His BPS total is because of his goals.

Coleman for me when he is fully fit is a better option than Baines without a doubt. He has proven this

Naismith is excellent value, yes there are questions around his place in the team and maybe he will be shifted but at that price you won't be playing him every week

But Baines has set plays/penos. Add to that Baines plays higher up, has great understanding with Pienaar, the majority of Evertons play is down the left and they're the same price means Baines is better imo

Hi Jonty...not for me. I suggested earlier that without a steady return of clean-sheets he is over-priced. I would want to see Everton much tighter first and I feel their Europa exertions take too much of a toll. If it also means a team re-shuffle, then that's another negative. Also Coleman is back soon and he could over-shadow him. Strictly a watching brief for me at the moment.

I agree. Watching brief for me too. I've tried squeezing Baines in but it comes at a cost in attack that I'm not keen to make at the moment. An Aguero injury changes everything, but until then Baines remains absent from my squad.

7m for a defender that plays as well as a midfielder is definitely worth it. Plus s he seems to be the most in form Everton player atm.

In my case I had a few mil in the bank so Baines was the obvious option. Saying that I don't have, nor am I getting, di Maria so my opinion is void 😛

      For me he is.

Everton's defence has been shocking so far and they have only delivered one clean sheet so far. However, even with this poor record and him surprisingly missing a penalty he is still the 7th best scoring defender!

So with this kind run after some horrific fixtures they are sure to get some clean sheets and Baines is sure to get more attacking points. I agree with the school of thought that with his attacking mentality and set plays that he is almost like an extra midfielder.

To answer Jonty's question, I do think Baines is the best FPL option from Everton.

Having said that, I'm starting to have doubts about getting him at all, as Everton hasn't been really performing well defensively. Would like to see some signs of improvement first before letting go of my Chelsea defender for Baines.

      Short answer yes.

Lukaku is out of form. McGeady is frustratingly inconsistent. Atsu not up to prem speed. Osman & Pienaar have never really racked up the points and are certainly not guaranteed 90 mins per match. Barkley & Coleman still coming back from injury. Better options at 5-6M than Naisy too.

Baines is easily the best way in for all practical purposes. We have room in our defensive lineups and no room in our forward lines. Good value players such as Chadlii make it possible to have the luxury of Baines.

I'd say the question is more can you fit him and Ivan in?

Having said that it probably only applies to those that are budgeting elsewhere in their team - I have Pelle and Welbeck. As you say if you have Costa (who doesn't) and Kun then you are tightening up elsewhere. Or you look at Siggy/Chadli as the 3rd/4th mids.

    Guzan / 4.0

    Ivanovic / Baines / Duff / Moore / Wisdom

    ADM / Sterling / Siggy / Downing / Albrighton

    Costa / Aguero / Welbeck

Wildcard team, 0 ITB. Any thoughts appreciated

A bit template (boring- in terms of if you score well, everyone scores well).

If you're happy with that, it's a good squad.

For me, Welbeck, Sterling and Downing would go.

    My Wildcard Squad is:

    Foster | (Myhill)

    Ivanovic | Baines | PvA | Moore | Hutton

Di Maria | Fabregas | Sigurdsson | Tadic | Boyd

    Costa | Falcao | Cisse

    I've £0.0m in the bank.

I've tried balance 'reactive' (template/bandwagon) with "proactive" (forthcoming points scorers and differentials).

I Currently stand on 363 points.

    Good squad on balance?

Hi Jonty...not for me. I suggested earlier that without a steady return of clean-sheets he is over-priced. I would want to see Everton much tighter first and I feel their Europa exertions take too much of a toll. If it also means a team re-shuffle, then that's another negative. Also Coleman is back soon and he could over-shadow him. Strictly a watching brief for me at the moment...

I've posted the following trades a couple of times this week just to get broader opinions. I haven't done them yet & won't until last minute as Baines & Dier won't change in price.

Albrighton & Baines in. Boyd & Dier in out (needed to raise 0.1 for Baines)

    Will give me:

    Krul (Elliott)
    Baines, Ivanovic, Clyne (Hutton, Moore)
    ADM, Sterling, Siggy, Downing (Albrighton)
    Aguero (c), Costa, Pelle

I did think of downgrading Sterling due talk about possible rotation but will keep.

Thoughts appreciated & thanks in advance.

Morning gents.. struggling to decide what to do with the FT this week. 3.3 ITB.

    a) Naismith to Welbeck/Pelle (other forwards are Costa, Aguero)
    b) PVA to Baines (other def are Ivan Clyne Naylor and Duff)

Not sure which one should be a higher priority?

    Krul
    Baines/Naylor/Bertrand
    Sanchez/Fabregas/Sterling/ADM
    Costa(C)/Welbeck/Ulloa

    Bench: Foster/Marney/PVA/Wisdom

1 FT, 0.4 ITB. Couple of decisions:

    A) Am I right to play Naylor over PVA?
    B) Who to captain? Costa seems safe, but Sanchez and Welbeck are tempting me (backed up by RMT)
