The thrills and spills of the greatest league in the world is back this weekend, and in time-honoured fashion so is the “Fantasy Flutter”.

To those of you new to this “Flutter” business, the concept is simple enough – we take a £10 stake each week and spread it across specialty bets that derive from the Scout Picks.

Last year we did better than break even and this time aroudn we want to give our friends over at Paddy Power a real run for their money. For Gameweek one you’ll get a chance to take a punt on Nani back flips and assist hat-tricks, as Paddy have provided an assortment of betting treats in their Fantasy Football Scout Specials page.

Read on to find out where our money goes and get the skinny on the big odds…

First up is Liverpool’s £35million hero-in-the-making Andy Carroll. Some tempting numbers offered from Paddy here, but none more so than Carroll to net two headers or more at 16/1. Now as awkward and cumbersome as his 6’3″ frame looks chasing down a defender, he has all the majesty of a rising salmon when his feet leave terra firma. I’ll take £2 at that price, and would have a few more if there wasn’t loads of value to come (I’d even take a couple of quid on a hat-trick of headers at some point this season if Paddy’d oblige).

With Charles N’Zogbia settling in to his new digs at Aston Villa, Victor Moses looks the man to give manager Roberto Martinez the goal threat from the flank this time around. Knee deep in goals in his pre-season friendlies, Moses will be parting the yellow sea and making his mark against Norwich on Saturday. After only netting a single goal in 24 shots last Premiership season, I’m edging toward quality over quanity with Moses to score from outside the box at 9/1 for a £2 stake.

Community Shield hero and part-time Michael Jackson look-a-like Luis Carlos Almeida da Cunha, or Nani for short, lines up against West Brom for Man United’s opener. After netting a brace against sterner opposition last weekend, Nani will be hungry for more and at 12/1 in the two or more goals market, it’s worth a £1 of anyone’s money. I’d even take a punt on him doing a homage to his doppleganger and Moonwalk in celebration, but alas that market is not available so I’ll settle for a cheeky quid on Nani to score a goal and do a backflip at 6/1.

Last but not least, David Silva has been on fire in Man City’s pre-season. His nimble footwork has lent elegance to Mario Balotteli’s immature showboating, with perfectly timed passes that put him as favourite for the seasons top assist machine. In that vein, Silva to have three or more assists at 20/1 doesn’t seem as longer shot as the odds might suggest. With a hammering expected, and long list of scoring talent on the pitch and the bench, i’ll take a punt and whack £2 on Silva’s silky skills. No guts, no glory.

Acca-not believe it!

In addition to the flutter this week, Paddy have put on an enhanced treble market for us to welcome the newly promoted clubs to the world of Fantasy Football. Although QPR might be a deal breaker here, with a draw well fancied, Norwich, Swansea and QPR all to lose at 13/2 makes the final £2 of the £10 stake. Sorry lads, what goes up, must come down.

Good luck in your gambles, and look in next week to find out how we did.

First, and probably only ever post – some information:

As the start of the season is less than 1/2 a day away now, there are many fantasy football team mangers biting thier nails this very second as the fantasy.premierleague.com website is currently down and has been experiencing problems earlier Friday 12th August afternoon.

The new look facelift to the official barclays premier league fantasy football website governed by the official barclays premiership organisers have brought in EA games to add a touch of creative flair into the site, now we see 3D graphics and sharper resolutions when managing teams.

We are pretty sure that the overwhelming surges in site traffic that has been sent to the servers of fantasy.premierleague.com website down due to the copious amounts of data needed to be sent to and from the new look site has crippled the sub-domain server-there probably looking at hard disk failure or simply disk full with the increase in popularity for the site. Server admins need to get this sorted super soon.

As we are all fellow managers we’re all now clucking at this point with the last minute managerial changes that need to be made pending the postponment of the Tottenham v Everton game which was originally scheduled for this afternoon, many a manager need to swap out Tottenham and Everton players to avoid a bad start and points drop early season.

To be fair, i’ve been quite lucky with the amount of players that are in my team so it shouldn’t impact my points score too much should the site be unavailable come tomorrow morning (sorry to rub it in for those less fortunate). We just hope y’all know that it’s 11:30 GMT that the last changes can be submitted by.

Inside knowledge when fantasy.premierleague.com will be back up!

Our top tip, for those keener than usual, don’t leave it until about 10:00 am to make your changes as the server will probably go down yet again with all the traffic backed up since earlier yesterday-to be super certain that you’ll get your changes in before it all comes crashing down is approximatey 4am GMT, we’ve had inside knowledge from the server admin team that this is the ETA they will be back up and running. They’ve done this to cope with all the traffic coming from east asia as they’re all mad for it-probably Ji Sung Parks family-haha.

Attempting to visit the fantasy mobile site

There are talks of people having success with the mobile site for the premier league fantasy football working, this is a myth, the m.fantasy.premierleague.com site is a separate subdomain but the databases and files that are associated with the mobile site all run from the subdomain which is down so there’s no joy there either. Put your laptops, tablets and iPhones in hibernate with the page open lads-keep trying.
