Slinking quietly into the velour chair of our virtual betting shop, cap dipped low after another mauling by Paddy, we slide another betting slip from the pile to take up the challenge again for this week’s Fantasy Flutter.

Did we shoot for the stars and overlook measured value for the big odds, or did our Scout Picks fall short of their predicted contributions? Perhaps a bit of both, but this week we are determined to chalk a few up for the good as Paddy market up Jose Bosingwa, Luis Suarez, Steven Taylor, David Silva and Shane Long, not to mention a tasty treble on the one hundered percent teams – Man United, Wolves and Man City. Read on to find out how our Picks play out in Paddys world…

The monobrowed maestro Jose Bosingwa has risen like a phoenix from the ashes under the stewardship of André Villas-Boas. In flying form, he mirrors Ashley Cole’s devestating overlaps and provides serious threat from Chelsea’s right flank. Paddy may have been a bit over-zealous with odds for him to get a red card at 40’s, having only been written into the referee’s book once last year, whereas 2 assists or more at 10/1 earns our interest and deserves a punt for £1.

Luis Suarez continues to poach goals whenever his slick footwork graces the turf and he’ll have a place in Fantasy managers and punters minds alike this weekend. Paddy have put together some pretty tempting specials here, including odds to score a header and to find the net from a free kick. Nice respectable odds with decent probability, but we fancy a spot of sabre rattling and are going to knock down 14/1 on Suarez to miss a penalty. With the Uruguayan failing to convert on the opening day, we’ll stake a quid on the planets aligning for this one.

With the last of the long shots out of our system, let’s get down to some serious betting with some semi-serious money. Next up is Steven Taylor against Fulham, challenging us with the likes of two or more goals at 80/1 and to score from outside the box at 22/1. Tempted? Sure. Do we remember last week’s thrashing by Paddy? Definitely. Newcastle stand a good chance of gaining a cleanie against The Cottagers but Taylor to get a brace? Too rich for our blood but have a sniff if you fancy backing the Magpies’ tower of strength.

Sans Tevez, David Silva is really making his mark on the Premier League this season in emphatic style. A veteran of the Scout Picks already this season, he glides between passes through the apparent acres of space that only he can find, notching up well earned bonus points along the way. As City push forward in numbers, Silva has a tendency to take a step off the line, lying in wait to pull the trigger if the ball is played square. With Spurs allowing Man United to remain mostly unchallenged in these situations in Monday night’s game, Silva to score from outside the box at 5/1 looks massive for £2.

If Paddy had given odds on Shane Long bullying the oft immovable Alex off the ball with such ease we wouldn’t have wasted time looking at them, let alone opened our wallets. But he did, the week after putting a goal away against United. Paddy are wagering completes a hat-trick of first goals this week against Stoke at the Hawthorns at 11/2, a worthy punt for £2.

Acca-not believe it!

Can the top three maintain their 100% records. Form big guns from Manchester United and City take on the out of sorts Londoners Arsenal and Spurs, whilst the clash between Wolves and Villa makes a surprise tussle for third place. Wolves look like the real risk here, although the journey time won’t be an issue and with Matt Jarvis on form as both provider and finisher last week, our final £4 goes on this huge treble of Man City, Man United and Wolves all to win at 14/1.

Check back next week to find out how our bets got on and how long it took us to count our winnings.

Ha, I'm about to get on an airplane to fly back to NYC. Not sure what my weekend is going to be like but I imagine the cable and Internet will be down, putting me in a total FPL blackout. Of course, with the way the new site is running this year, that would be pretty much like the first tow gameweeks.

Torres needs quality passers to play his best. When he was bangin them in at Liverpool, he said that Benayoun was his favourite player. If Chelsea play Benny and Mata, then I think he will come good, but until then, Mikel, Lampard and Ramires do not have the vision and intricacy to set him free....

    N'Zogbia - Sinclair - Silva - Sessegnon - Moses

    Torres - Bent (C)

I'm struggling for a reason to keep Given over just going with Vorm/Ruddy or Vorm/Krul for the season. I mean, is Villa's defense that good? I know Given is a good keeper and McLeish will preach defense, but I don't think Villa's defense is all that good. And if I keep Given, I'll be tempted to play him regardless, whereas if I opt for the other options I will surely play fixtures which I like.

I mean, I have Given and Vorm. And people (including myself) are actually considering starting Vorm this week over Given home to Wolves?? Surely there is a reason for lack on confidence...

I think people are getting carried away with Vorm. Most of his points this season will come from saves. Even at home to Wigan last week Swansea could have easily conceded 3 times, the woodwork denying them. I'd say they're the new BLackpool in terms of letting in goals.
Norwich look any but solid at the back having not kept a cs and given away 2 penalties already.

Letting one in v Blackburn didn't help. I'm currently going with Vorm but he won't replicate last week's heroics so it's chasing things a bit. I've got a feeling of 1-1 in that Swans game.

With loyalty to the Swans on my mind I might play Warnock and bench Larsson. Bugger it...

Not really a lack of confidence imo, wolves are much stronger now while sunderland have yet to get moving so Vorm seems a better choice. If it was Given against Sunderland and Vorm against wolves I'd be playing Given.

Forget what happened last week imo, Sunderland have just as much chance of scoring away to Swansea as Wolves have of scoring away to Villa imo.

If Given is the favored choice here, then there is clearly lacking confidence in him right now as a fantasy star keeper.

See I'd disagree and think that wolves have a greater chance of scoring than sunderland (but that's just me!) I do think Given is good to have, I certainly have faith in him but from my point of view I would think Sunderland are less of an attacking threat than Wolves (since wolves have started strong and are showing more confidence). As I said if it was the other way around I'd be playing Given against Sunderland in a heartbeat. But sure we'll have our answer by the end of this gameweek 🙂

maybe the scout picks have sways you? Villa at home to Wolves, Given. vs newly promoted Swansea home to Sunderland. Vorm. Larsson, Sess, Gyan...they can score and will be more eager to get a result with the loss last week to Newcastle.

Nah the scout picks aren't convincing me too much right now. There's no doubt that when on form Sunderland can score but they aren't yet. Plus if we're talking about players with scoring potential remember that Given is coming up against the highest point scoring midfielder in the game right now (Jarvis :P).

Have asked this four times already, but it's always got lost in amongst the carnage. Some quick advice would be appreciated.

Basically my midfield is cahill, dyer, yaya, ramsey and surman. Which is very weak. have already made a change elsewhere though (without thinking it through). So I can either soldier through with this midfield, or get rid of cahill for a 4pt hit? I'm thinking of getting Brunt to be honest because I'll stick with him for the next 7 or 8 gws at least. Worth the hit?

    anyone else I could change?

and yeah, 4-3-3 is what I was planning, it's just that if Cahill doesn't play, I don't really want to be relying on Ramsey or Surman to come in instead.

Hmm ye some trouble you're in now 😛 Ok well lets say you play Bos, Simpson, Kompany and Smalling (not sure if he's starting) and all 3 forwards. Now for the midfield. Dyer is a good choice. Yaya is playing deeper this season. Cahill is a tough one because he could get a move on soon. Ramsey is tough too because he's a good player but still trying to reach his usual standard again while playing in a gutted team is going to be tough. Surman is bench fodder. If I was to avoid making any transfers then I'd play Dyer, Yaya and Cahill. Not sure the 4 point hit is worth it unless Cahill gets 2 and Brunt goes wild (not sure he will though).

If only it was so simple - him and Drogba were similarly positioned last week and look what happened.

Even a mild return to form would be enough to bag 1 possibly 2 goals surely. Chelsea's (hit and miss) creativity behind him does worry me though but Norwich should be more accommodating than West Brom..

How can the gamblers hype torres and most of us just dribble p*** all over his feet. I even have him too, there can't be two easier fixtures and one's gone already. I see an assist when he gets (earns) a converted Lamps penalty.

even better, I see the subs tripping Welbeck in the box- Verms is likely out, as is Kosc. Kind of equals things out with bolton, I suppose. The 90 minutes is most important to me vs Suarez.

Are you dying to make that transfer now?

If not, hold fire and see how Mata settles in (he should get some game time tomorrow). If he settles in well, he'll be far and away Chelsea's best attacking option imo, and would save you 2.5m instead of 1.5m.

Simpson's just ahead of Warnock in the bookies odds for a cs so he plays
I doubt Lescott will get a cs but he's deadly in set pieces and i'd be kicking myself if he was benched after scoring.
And if Villa do keep a cs it's only 4 points lost since Warnock won't likely be involved in any goals.

    captain dilemma - got rooney/suarez/bent/malouda.

i've got rooney atm - he's basically been the one shining light for me this season, but malouda has scored a couple + has the easier fixture + may possibly be motivated to either fight for his place or go out with a bang. also, nice differential. obv suarez has a nice fixture and is in form too.

i'd say bent is 4th on my list so it's between the other 3 - captains poll isn't hugely helpful given how close it was, and i'm also not really willing to make decisions based on a poll that has torres ranked so highly.

    thoughts?

Foster I've gone for. Stoke never as potent away from home, WBA look very solid this year under Hodgson and Stoke played last basically a full strength team last night.
