Liverpool have revealed that Steven Gerrard requires immediate surgery on a groin injury and will be absent for just over fortnight.
Speaking after Wednesday nights Champions League Qualifier, Rafa stated that Gerrard will undergo surgery on Thursday having played through with the injury for 120 minutes against Liege. Liverpool hope that he will recover quickly from the operation and will be out for just 10-15 days.
That rules Gerrard out of the weekend clash with Villa and makes him a doubt for the home game with Man United on September 13 – although clearly, Liverpool have timed the surgery to have him available for this match.
