Fabregas Set To Miss Out Against Birmingham

Arsene Wenger has all but ruled out Cesc Fabregas for Saturday’s Emirates clash with Birmingham.

In his usual Thursday afternoon update Wenger stated that match fitness was a concern with his skipper stating…

“Cesc is very, very short and unlikely to be involved [on Saturday]. He has a little chance for Tuesday.”

The news will come as a major blow to Fantasy Managers who will have preparing their squads for the return of the Gunners playmaker ahead of Gameweek 7. Fabregas is currently riding high in our Captain poll with 24% of the vote.

Given that Fabregas will now likely make a Premier League return against City at Eastlands in Gameweek 9, it now looks as though we will be afforded a couple of weeks of breathing space to muster the funds required to bring in the inspirational Spaniard. That will be little consolation to those who have already made the move, or played their wildcards this week to manufacture the transfer.

Samir Nasri – in strong form and possibly deployed up in support of the lone striker, now looks a lot good prospect against Birmingham. Crucially Nasri started on the bench in Tuesday’s Euro Qualifier with Luxembourg, only appearing on 63 minutes.

In other news from the Emirates, Wenger confirmed that Nicklas Bendtner will make a return to the squad – a development that immediately puts Marouane Chamakh under threat as a Fantasy prospect. Bendtner is likely to start life on the bench against Birmingham but clearly will be a factor from this point on. Wenger had this to say on Bendtner’s return…

“Apart from the fact he went to the World Cup we have not seen the real Nicklas Bendtner for a long, long time. He is the closest he has been to his best for a while. He was really, really handicapped by groin problems but they have gone now.”

Theo Walcott could also figure; he is set to be assessed following Friday’s training session. Kieran Gibbs is available and could start with Gael Clichy rested with Tuesday’s Champions League tie in mind.
Thomas Vermaelen and Bacary Sagna remained sidelined and Wenger has cast doubt on their return against City…

“Sagna is ten days, Vermaelen is ten days”

Manuel Almunia will likely be in contention for the City game while Robin Van Persie remains “a bit longer” away from a return. We’re all too familiar with that particular prognosis when it comes to Van Persie.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Who should I bench out of my awesome front 8?

    Malouda - Nani - VDV - Nolan - Yaya
    Drogba - Tevez - Carroll

    Thanks!

Have to say this does not surprise me a I am usually guilty of jumping on the wagon too early and getting burnt. Since I was going to bring in Fabs for Malouda then it has to be Malouda captain this week, I feel at least a brace coming just to silence the few!

I'm unfollowing him on twitter... Lying toe-rag! Claiming to be fit all of 10 days ago, and now it turns out that he's 'very, very short' of fitness... Bleurgh.

Still at least I hadn't brought him in yet...

Gerrard > Nani in the most uninspiring transfer of the season non shocker. And I'll be lumbered with Flo' Mo' for his bench appearance vs Wolves! 😀

Attila, you around? If Hughton does opt for a 4-4-2, can't see it btw (Ameobi and Carroll up front together would be incredibly one dimensional), who would drop out of the midfield? You main man Tioté? Or maybe Nolan? Clutching at straws here because my team is going to be virtually identical to Waldaz's...

Jamsie, what kind of return are you expecting for Mal over the next two weeks only? I have the choice of selling him or Fabregas this week, bringing Fab back for GW10. Boils down to:

      Salcido this week, Fabregas next.
Malouda next two weeks with a possible future 4 pt hit.

Not too much in all honesty... We always struggle at Villa, and there's a risk of him being rested against Wolves...

Although I wouldn't base your transfer policy on the hope that he is/isn't rested...

          2,10 -4 for Mal
          2,6 for Sal + Fab

      Yo!
Well I would be a little suprised to see a 4-4-2, sort of understandable though as Hughton is probably pissed off with the low returns against Blackpool and Stoke and obviously wants to up the scoring against Wigan.
Yeah Ameobi and Carroll are way too one dimensional, I'd be expecting/preferring to see one of those two (probably Carroll) and Lovenkrands who would offer more movement and guile.
The tricky one to suss is who would be dropped from midfield, on merit Nolan should be the one to make way, but as he is the skipper I can't see him being dropped, Barton is the only real set piece threat and is the playmaker, Tiote MIGHT make way if Hughton considers Wigan to offer little threat - I'd hate to see that happen though. Routledge could make way allowing something weird like Nolan down the right, or we could even see Guthrie instead of Routledge.
Long and short of it is, if it goes to 4-4-2 I have no idea which mid goes 🙂

Jeez, he's only missing one game even if he doesn't play. I personally think he will play a big part against Brum so leave him in your team. If he doesn't play a sub comes in. Don't knee-jerk because he 'may' miss one game.

Cheers once again sparticas, and bad luck about the leg!

Very interesting stuff... Seems like Gerrard will be playing off Torres then, with Poulsen and Lucas pressumably sitting...

Would be ballsy to keep Gerrard and get rid of Malouda this week.... I might go with that. Gerrard playing off Torres always has the potential for big scores for Gerrard. Plus that bottler Webb is reffing (I think) so Liverpool are almost guaranteed a penalty at some stage. 😉

        No probs,
Liverpool have been beyond poor but a derby is always a different matter. If any player is going to come good it will be Gerrard. There will be plenty of set pieces which will always give him the chance for points.

Im gutted as i am back in hospital tomorrow for the weekend so decided last night (whilst highly medicated)to put Fab in for Gerrard at a cost of 4 points. FCUK.

With no Fabregas it seems the captain choice is a 3 horse race.

Nani - played two internationals, did well but wouldn't be surprised if he only plays 65-70 minutes against WBA. A bit unpredictable so could get 3 - 12 points depending on what side of bed he gets out that morning.

Berbatov - Also in great form, but nicely rested now that he's retired internationally, didn't start vs S'land so there's practically no possibility of the same again. Would expect a goal minimum from him vs WBA

Tevez - Also hard to see him getting less than a goal vs Blackpool, there's goals for the taking there. Only concern is he played for Argentina vs Japan IN Japan on the 10th.

I can't decide, what do ye reckon?

FPL towers? The fact is they can make subs one minute earlier in order to have a big effect on their fantasy team, without having any effect on their actual team...

He may play but I doubt Liverpool will keep a clean sheet at Everton. I don't really want to start Jagielka either, since 1-1 with a dozen yellow cards seems pretty likely.

not a bad bet also, but that same team did exeter away, and about ten of that team have been coming on towards the last 20 minutes of matches in the top 14. the 10 is argie, and hasnt really done much, he played centre a few weeks ago, but not ten. But he's good apparently, and the scrum half paulliage (i think) is very good. With newcastle resting people, and the weather very nice down in france, they should put alot of scores on the board

Oh what to do now, stupidly believed the Fab tweets and brought him in for Gerrard! I am loathe to take a points hit, as did loads last season, but none so far this one. Will my team do with Fabs on the bench?/

Due to cescgate I think I may just leave Gerrard in my team and hope for the best. either that or jump on the VDV bandwagon.

Still going to make my defensive change Konchesky --> Coleman just so I can afford Fabs in GW10.

What a result on Fabs. All I kept reading on here are impatient so and so's getting shirty when told it was wise to wait. Serves em right! Could not get him til GW10 anyway so don't give a s**t!
