Rooney’s Extended Layoff Boosts The Hernandez Option

Alex Ferguson has brought us the first dose of significant injury news of the day, suggesting that Wayne Rooney’s ankle injury will keep him sidelined for longer than the expected three week period.

The United boss revealed in today’s press conference that the striker was now likely to miss the derby clash with City on November 10. He offered a pretty vague prognosis, stating that Rooney is simply “injured and resting” ahead of the weekend meeting with Spurs but made it clear that he “could” be missing for a longer period than the intial three-week assessment. When asked on the three week absence Ferguson replied “I think it may be longer.”

This latest information is of course of interest as it boosts the Fantasy potential of Javier Hernandez. The Mexican looks nailed on for starts in Rooney’s absence given his current form and would now seem set to earn starts against Spurs, Wolves and City and possibly Aston Villa three days later. A run of four Gameweeks would certainly increase his appeal as a mid-price option up front given that he can be recruited for just 7.0 in the Fantasy Premier League Game.

With many Fantasy Managers facing up to shifting the injured Carlos Tevez from their squads, it seems that Hernandez suddenly offers improved prospects as a cheap alternative.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I agree you should Jussi. I think Liverpool's win last week was a bit of a false dawn helped by Samba being suspended for Blackburn. Away from home Woy will revert to his negative ways. As a Liverpool fan I think Jussi is a good option for me as i'll be seriously annoyed if he gets a clean sheet and I don't play him.

I reckon I've frigged my team up a bit. Sailing along nicely, now have doubts over Bos playing and took Malouda out for Fabs (before Tevez news). Keepers are shite n all. I need to cheer up.

Think that was more of a tactical thing then him not being great. Moyes had him staying further back deliberately to help double up on Bale.

am i completely mental benching drogs in favour of carroll and hernadez? I have samba, and i strongly believe theyll get very little from blackburn, and that theyre due a slip up after last weeks lazy jog against wolves

Not completely mental, sounds like there is some logic behind it however I'd much rather have Drogba in my team than Hernandez. I see the match up with Spurs being a pretty tight one.

RBJ, Chelsea haven't scored in their last 2 away games and they haven't gone three consecutive away games without scoring under Abramovich. I seriously doubt B'Burn will break that record this weekend.

    Bosingwa - will he start?

I was planning to start him, but now he's a big doubt and I don't want to see a 1 pointer when he subs on late.

    Options are Dann and Etherington.

    Stick or twist?

Just bumped into Kenwyne Jones on my lunch outside a swanky Liverpool Hotel, conversation went something like:
Hi Kenwyne, good luck tomorrow son, is Etherington fit to play. After what seemed like the longest pause / stare ever, all he could muster was 'tanks'.

Obv doesnt appreciate how important fantasy football is!!!

I have Drogba, Berbs and Carroll up front, seems like a popluar line up. My question is, Berbs hasn't scored for a while, Hernandez is on fire and is set for a run of starts with Rooney out, should I transfer Berbs out for Hernandez? (after the Spurs game)

        What blinkers are they then?

The ones that stops you seeing that Drogba is the most consistent player in the game bar none?

Don't restrict yourself to looking back a month, try 12.

          Well said.

Many who captain Arsenal players (Fab / Nasri) this weekend could all end up seeing the master plans fail after a 2 - 1 win over West Ham while Drogba scores a brace against Blackburn in a 0 - 2 away win...

          It could happen...

Hope it comes off but I just don't see Liverpool beating a pumped up Bolton while I don't think Bolton are good enough to beat Liverpool who I think could start to get solid at the back now.
