An ankle ligament injury on opening day may have slowed Aleksandar Kolarov’s breakout for Manchester City, but the Serb is now fit and has eased his way back into City’s lineup with starts the last two Gameweeks. Sunday’s outing at Fulham ended up being a mere two-pointer, but it could have easily been the eye-opening double digit Fantasy haul anticipated from the £19 million signing.

For those needing more time to ponder his potential, Kolarov’s wouldas, couldas, and shouldas last weekend presented an ideal outcome – a strong performance which lacked the end product to alert the masses. However, further delay looks a risk, with the Craven Cottage showing undoubtedly hinting at good things to come…

Kolarov’s number 13 has been regularly spotted pushed high up the pitch (think Ashley Cole), and he struck numerous driven crosses from the left flank (think Gareth Bale). He grabbed corner-kick duties on both sides of the field, and continues to be expected to be involved in set pieces. However, the defining moment on Sunday was the scoring opportunity that he failed to convert. With a quick counter-attack developing following a Fulham corner, Kolarov took off on a long run straight up the middle of the park, collecting a pass and beating his man. Kolarov probably would have scored had he struck the ball more cleanly, but it still required a fine Mark Schwarzer save to keep it out.

Separate from the excitement fuelled by his attacking jaunts, Roberto Mancini’s style and City’s two holding midfielders have created a defence that has proved to be a tough nut to crack this season, claiming 7 clean sheets in 14 games. With City’s schedule now softening up considerably (stk BOL whm EVE new AVL BLP), and with the tougher opponents all being at home, Kolarov emerges as a viable selection if he proves, as expected, to have locked himself in at left-back in City’s lineup.

Of course, rotation amongst City’s illustrious squad always remains a potential risk. No doubt, Pablo Zabaleta’s cracker of a goal this past weekend while filling in for Jerome Boateng will leave him in the mix amongst City’s three primary full-backs. However, Kolarov and Boateng look to be the clear favourites to round out the back four (with Kolo Toure and Vincent Kompany in the middle). The alternatives, prominent early in the season – Micah Richards and Wayne Bridge, now look destined for cameo roles.

Kolarov is owned by just 1.0% of the Fantasy Premier League teams and has seen his price fall to 5.7 as would-be prospectors moved on after his injury. At 5.8, Boateng is a comparably priced option, but perhaps without the same attacking potential as Kolarov. Judging by Sunday’s performance, it may now be time to get him in your team before he fulfils that promise and bandwagons start to roll at pace.

I watched it because I quite like Steve Coogan, at least as Alan Partridge.

Wasn't all that impressed though. It was ok but nothing special.

I would be interested in Munster v Dragons start.

Given the Dragons are only losing Lydiate to the intl's, whereas Munster lost their whole pack.

Saying that they beat the scarelts last week (just) with second string.

jesus, i thought dragons were away. again, research tomorrow.

i wouldnt bet on that game lads, ireland played great against them, but spilled the ball about 8 times and conceded a try or penalty each time. i do actually htink that +19 is taking the piss, but not one id bet on. I actually think wales could do em.

I appreciate they are better head-to-head, and we wont win but... we got excellent tight 5, and if the half backs can try and dictate a bit we could put up a good fight.

We really should have beaten SA, and turned Aus.

It maybe btwn 8-10 pts, I just dont see 19 (hopefully) 🙂

This is a decent Welsh team, with Gethin returning now - only missing shane.

I dont think we will get beat by 19pts

                    Shanklin versus Smith?
                    Warburton versus McCaw?
                    S Jones versus Carter?

Key areas, mate, and the All Blacks will win them.

My wife's Welsh, though, so if you pull off a one-in-53-years win, I won't be too upset. 🙂

Did anyone stay up all night to watch the cricket?

I went to sleep about 8am and woke up at 3pm, although I seemed to wake up every hour which was very annoying.

Considering doing the same tonight, although I will feel like shite tomorrow.

Haven't traded yet. Got 1 free trade. If I didn't have all these problems I'd probably sell Carroll having a look at fixtures etc. Only have 3 midfielders at best atm. If VDV is out then I'd be forced to play 433.

Evening all, 2 options for this week-
1-foley and cesc out for kolorov and Cahill
    2-Cesc out for arteta

1 would mean a 4 point hit, 2 would mean I play a poor defence that needs to be fixed asap (cole, jara, konchesky,Simpson, foley).
Or if anyone has another recommendation i'm all ears (team linked)

      Wenger:

"It is a big blow because it will question how cautious we have to be in the future with him.

"Cesc has played 50 games a year since a young age.

"We may have to be more cautious with him, especially in the next two months."

Seems to me as if he'll be easing him back after the two weeks. Ship him out.

Hey everyone! After a score of 76 last week, I don't wanna go and make any daft transfers, so looking for a bit of advice.

My team at the moment is:

    Foster, Krul
    Vidic, Konchesky, Dann, Bosingwa, Coleman
Adam, Nasri, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Cahill
    Drogba, Elmander, Carroll

I have 1 free transfer and 3.0 in the bank, is there anything you guys think I should be considering?

    Thanks!
