Birmingham City seem set to face an unlikely “Treble Gameweek” following the confirmation that their clash at with Everton at Goodison, postponed from Boxing Day, has been rescheduled for February 23.
This would appear to place the fixture in Gameweek 27 – a programme that begins on February 12. Birmingham already have a double fixture in this Gameweek, with two “attractive” home games against Stoke and Newcastle on February 12 and 15 respectively…
The trip to Everton currently depends on Birmingham’s progress in the Carling Cup, should they make it past West Ham to the final, the Goodison clash would move to March 9, handing them a double in Gameweek 29; they are set to face West Brom at St Andrews in this Gameweek. Qualifying for the final will however also mean the postponement of Birmingham’s Gameweek 28 fixture away at Chelsea, giving them a blank on the schedule (so that’d be two doubles sandwiching a missing week). Not the worst one to miss but a situation that needs keeping an eye on.
Fantasy Managers need to stay alert then – while Birmingham have been far from a reliable source of talent, three fixtures in a single Gameweek would surely make their assets irresistible, with Ben Foster and the likes of Scott Dann and Liam Ridgewell looking particularly attractive at the back. Further forward we would need to be wary of rest and rotation – finding an attacking player likely to turn out for all three games would be tricky, but certainly “Bonus darling” Barry Ferguson will be on the Watchlist ahead of Gameweek 27 and perhaps David Bentley, a potential new arrival this week, may also attract some early attention.
We should point out that although the Premier League have confirmed the date of this fixture – the Fantasy Premier League game is yet to place the rescheduled game. A reshuffle of the Gameweeks looks unlikely, although it may well be something the FPL are considering. We will update you via the tweets as soon as confirmation is in place.
