This weekend could see a swarm of new January Transfer Window recruits make their debuts. The most tantalising prospect is arguably Manchester City’s new towering target man, Edin Dzeko, who looks set to feature heavily against Wolves. Other new signings include Roque Santa Cruz’s return to Blackburn, Wayne Bridge looking to bolster West Ham’s backline, Tottenham’s forgotten man David Bentley striving to revive his career at Birmingham, while Steve Sidwell is in a comparable position as he prepares for his Fulham debut.

Elsehwere, Andy Carroll has been ruled out of Sunday’s derby with Sunderland leaving Leon Best and Shola Ameobi to fight it out for a place in the Newcastle attack. Manchester United look set to welcome back Wayne Rooney, Nemanja Vidic and Edwin Van Der Sar as they take on a Beckham-less Tottenham side, who have announced Gareth Bale as match fit. Wojciech Szczesny will start at West Ham for Arsenal after Lukasz Fabianski was ruled out of Saturday’s game. David Silva is still touch and go for Manchester City and will find out later today if he will make their squad.

    Is it insanity to consider having no Chelsea players at all? Form hasn't been great and the fixtures are not so good.

    Lads, couple of questions, only just got in.

    1. Did Ancelotti confirm Drogba will NOT be starting? Lots of people seem to be saying he's benched. Any source?

      Ancelotti's not confirmed or denied the Drogba not starting rumour - however there was a leak from the press conference (don't know how accurate) saying Drogs will start, but Malouda won't.

    Anyway, I am a newbie to this site and wanted to ask your opinions on fantasyadvice.co.uk?

    I have taken thier advice for this gw and transferred out MGP for Brunt. My team is now

    Hart
    Baines, Skertl, Alcaraz
    Brunt(c) Bale, VDV, Adam, Nani
    Tevez, Elmander

    Soderburg, Evra, Carroll, Crainey

    What do u lot think, as u can see they also suggested Brunt as captain???

      I know it was only Liverpool, but Blackpool are not pushovers. I think the fact you've benched Evra means you think Spurs will score and that probably means VDV will be involved. Nani is always a threat too so Brunt is an option but not a strong favourite.

      I'd put him maybe 4th or 5th cap choice myself.

    Re: Edin Dzeko

    He last kicked a ball in anger on 19th Dec when he scored in the 90th minute to salvage a 2-2 draw against Hoffenheim. The Bundesliga winter break is four weeks. The first two weeks encompass all the German religious holidays, the last of which is the 6th Jan. Commercially, everything shuts down but players are still expected to keep their fitness levels up in their off-time. Which is also why Man City couldn't openly sign him until the 7th.

    I suspect he went back home to Bosnia and his family at Christmas. The German press don't have him labelled as a party animal so I guess he's been doing his own thing. I can confirm he hasn't been anywhere near a 'training camp in spain' as has been suggested, as McClaren vetoed that idea when City's interest became serious.

    Is he fit? Definitely. Is he 'match fit' for the Prem? Possibly not, as the Prem is much more quicker/physical than the Bundesliga, but only Mancini can make that call.

    I only posted this to help clarify some of the other non-factual comments being made re Dzeko. He is a good player and I'm 100% sure from what I've seen, he will be a sucessful buy for Man City and an asset to the Prem. But maybe not tomorrow.

    I appreciate this doesn't really answer the question as to whether he'll start but as a Brit living in Germany for four years and watching the Bundesliga and reading the German press, I thought I'd add my thoughts.

      nice one jonny, he looks an interesting prospect indeed and he seemed to hint during his interview that he would be playing against wolves as does the city website, but you could be right, maybe tomorrow is a game too soon. will keep an eye on things for the time being.

      People love a punt and 16k have transferred him in (25 have also transferred him out, or maybe it's one very indecisive player on their wilddcard ;)).

      60k have got Tevez in though this week so for the most part they are exercising caution.
