Rafael Van der Vaart is set to sit out another spell on the sidelines after aggravating his calf injury in training. The Dutchman had just made his return following a calf muscle strain, playing his part in the fine 1-0 win in the San Siro last week.

Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Van der Vaart will miss tomorrow night’s trip to Blackpool, ruling him out for those Fantasy Managers who gambled on him contributing for Tottenham’s second fixture of the gameweek.

“Rafa did his calf again yesterday in training so he’s struggling…Rafa missed a couple of games, played in Milan, got through 70 minutes and then yesterday morning didn’t feel good.”

Although a precious Fantasy commodity, Van der Vaart’s recent fragility is beginning to cause concern.

Spurs have a string of attractive fixtures, with some particularly obliging opponents due at White Hart Lane in the coming gameweeks. Fantasy Managers need Van der Vaart fit and ready to inflict damage in those, but with Redknapp citing fatigue as a possibly root cause of the Dutchman’s problems, there’s real concern that he will be handed rests – particularly if Spurs see off AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League tie.

In the short-term we are at least given respite by Tottenham’s blank in gameweek 28. Spurs miss out as a result of Arsenal’s involvement in the Carling Cup final and that will give Van der Vaart time to make his recovery for the next league clash with Wolves. Redknapp seems hopeful that his playmaker will be back in the frame for that clash…

“We have a break, with Wolves away next then AC Milan at home. We’re hoping Rafa will be back for Wolves. He should be ok, it’s not a tear.”

Even if he recovers, the concern is that Redknapp will look to use Van der Vaart sparingly against Wolves with the second-leg in mind. That nagging doubt could well see the Dutchman sold on by a lot of his owners prior to Saturday’s deadline, as Fantasy Managers look to ensure that they have an intact starting XI available.

Van der Vaart was ranked second in our recent poll which canvassed opinion on those players being transferred out ahead of the Gameweek 28 deadline.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    No matter how much I look at it, I can't see past doing...

    Stockdale & Fabs -> VDS & Cahill (4 point hit) this week.

    Anyone disagree given my squad?

    Foster, Stockdale
    Djourou, Kelly, Bosingwa, Coleman, Rafael
    Nani, VDV, Fabs, Adam, A Young
    Tevez, RVP, Wingie
    Bank 0.5m

      Cahill in for Cesc seems good. Utd could concede in both games, so a 4 point might not be the best.

      It's tricky because of Stockdale missing, but you're only gonna tie up money in VDS that you don't want to. I'd just have no keeper for one week, then replace Stockdale with Begovic or someone the following week

      Then you'd have the cash for Fabregas the following week if need be

        actually, if VDV is out for a while, you could just replace him with Cahill, then you'd still have Fabregas for the home game against Sunderland

          Yeah, I agree with not wanting funds tied up in a GK...2 things twisting my arm though

          1) playing a GK with a double vs no GK.
          2) Foster rotates perfectly with VDS for the rest of the season.
          3) Nasri/Walcott are viable replacements for Fabs (who I will struggle to get back in easily if I do the above)

            Something like:

            GW28: Stockdale & Fabs -> VDS & Cahill
            GW29: Rafael -> R Johnson
            GW30: Adam -> Walcott

    gambling tomorrow ,i reckon englands gonna bowl so they might only have to get 97 to win ,so people like colly trott and bell wont have a decent bat , so my capt is broad and 5 catches and 2 stumpys for prior,30 trannys left 3rd in the league ,bit of caution required ,i love transfers ,if england bat you could all sail on past me.

    This is massively premature, but I've mapped my transfer for the foreseeable future. Anyone see anything wrong with this?

    GW28: Cahill in for Fabregas
    GW29: Fabregas in for Nolan
    GW30:
    GW31: Bardsley in for Huth (want him for GW32, but can't do 3 at once)
    GW32: A.Young & Lampard in for Fabregas & Cahill
    GW33:
    GW34: Carroll in for Odemwingie

            It'll be re-added tomorrow if he's injured for the Blackpool game. His price can then drop. Protection will start when that flag is lifted. That's my understanding anyway.

    Ok, just listening to an Andy cole interview, and one amazing stat has got me thinking! Andy cole aparently contributed 127 assists in his premier league carreer as well as all those goals! So what other players (not just strikers) would have had an overwhelming affect on FPL! Im thinking Seaman, Irwin, Beckham, Le Tiss and jimmy floyd!
