Thanks to the Carling Cup Final and Charlie Adam’s dodgy temperament (amongst other factors), this week was shaping up to be a painful one for many a Fantasy Manager unless a few brave decisions were made, particularly in the midfield area. With popular options such as Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Theo Walcott, Rafael Van der Vaart, and Adam all missing out, fortune -and plenty luck- favoured the brave souls who plumped for Aston Villa and Wolves midfielders in particular.

Villa annihilated Blackburn 4-1, with six saves from Paul Robinson preventing the scoreline from further embarrassing Steve Kean’s side, as Ashley Young and Stewart Downing racked up the points for their Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Owners. Young bagged two goals and an assist, whilst Downing helped himself to a goal and an assist and the pair picked up three and two Bonus Points respectively, making their hauls 18 and 12 for the gameweek. With a great run of games ahead, there will no doubt be plenty investment in the pair over the next few weeks.

Over at Wolves, Mick McCarthy’s side recorded their best-ever Premier League win to jump out of the relegation zone. Jamie O’Hara and Matt Jarvis each scored a goal as Blackpool, without Charlie Adam, self-imploded, mainly thanks to DJ Campbell’s pointless red card which now deprives Ian Holloway of his star striker for the next three games.

O’Hara has now scored in his last two games and although he will miss the next league match with parent club Spurs, is proving to be essential in the club’s relegation battle. He picked up 2 Bonus Points, taking this week’s tally to 10. Adding this to his 3 last week, and the loanee is looking like a real alternative to Charlie Adam. Jarvis’ goal and a Wolves clean sheet saw him pick up 8 points, and, coming off a 2 Bonus Point performance last week, also looks key to his club’s survival chances.

With four games to go before we can draw a line under what has been a thoroughly frustrating gameweek, these four players currently sit at the top of the midfield scorers for gameweek 28, and any team with a combination of Young plus one, or even two, can expect a nice little boost up the rankings tonight. Depending on that number of points hits, of course.

It will be if Everton are involved in a FA Cup replay. They play on Tuesday so if they win or lose its on but if they draw its off.

Don't think so. Been reading these boards for a couple of months now and I have to say AP is one of my favourite posters. His arguements are always very balanced, humourous and unpredictable in a good way. Who does he support btw? I'm pretty sure it's Man Utd but just want to check.
Other posters I like are Fran, Buggu and Quaid is brilliant too.

4 goals for Wolves and only an assist for Doyle. I was happy when I saw the final score but wasn't when I saw how much points Doyle picked up.

So is Beckford now the prefered Everton striker for fantasy teams or is Saha still the go to guy?

I would say it depends on budget. If money is no object (and fitness permitting of course), Saha is still the choice.

I think so, for the foreseeable future at least.

Tempted to punt him for Odem if he's confirmed fit and Everton's double goes ahead.

Worth a punt for the double JB?

Want a 3rd Toffee without ruining my set up and now Campbell is banned he could be perfect until Carroll is fit.

Exactly what I'm thinking - Beckford for the double (if fit and if it's on) then a switch to Carroll in a couple of weeks.

How are you going this season? Been a tough one.

Same here. I had been planning on hanging on to DJ with a view to replacing him with Carroll. I may now go Saha/Beckford until Carroll is up and running.

Started well then had a nightmare for 10 weeks, recovering now though and having a decent run climbing 600,000 places in 8 weeks, want to end as high as possible so forced into playing the doubles.

    Will RoonPig get banned??

SAF has already get the first punch in by blaming the media and saying they will have RoonPig Hung & Electrocuted...

He knows rightly that he should have been sent off..

And thats Utds last 3 matches that RoonPig has had a go at an opposing player.. The Boy is trash

He won't get banned, if it was a foreign player then maybe, Rooney will get away with it and what's worse so will Clattenberg.

Clattenbergs reaction was embarrassing... He put his arm around a player who had just carried out GBH on a fellow professional and laughed

He should be demoted if Rooney can't be punished, he gifted them 3 points as Rooney shouldn't have been on the pitch to have a hand in 3 goals.
