The Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV

As promised, we’re squeezing in a second free-to-enter cup competition before end the season ends… The Fantasy Football Scout Cup IV.

This upcoming gameweek (GW29) will be the qualifying round, with the top scorers (minus point hits) progressing to the first round of 512 in GW30. Entry is now open, and will remain so up until a few days before the GW30 deadline (a reminder with be posted). To be clear, you can submit your entry for the competition after the GW29 deadline, but it will be your score from GW29 that will count for qualifying.

Here is all the info you need to know…

What is the Fantasy Football Scout Cup?

The Fantasy Football Scout Cup is our version of the Fantasy Premier League’s Fantasy Cup game. Entrants who qualify for the first round will be randomly drawn against each other and the winner of the tie is whoever has the highest score from that gameweek, minus points spent on transfers (like in the original game and in head-to-head scores). In the event of a tie, the Manager with the highest in the overall standing will progress.

Each gameweek the number of teams will halve, and when the competition reaches the latter stages, Mark and Granville will make live draws on the podcast as we reach our exciting conclusion.

How do I enter?

As with the Members Paddy Power Cup, entry for the competition is simple, just follow this link [ENTRY CLOSED] and fill out the form. A confirmation email will be sent shortly after you’ve submitted your details to acknowledge your entry has been received. Just like the FPL, multiple entries to the Cup are not permitted.

When does it start?

All entries go into the qualifying round, which uses GW29 scores. the deadline to enter will be announced in due course. The first round proper of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup will be Gameweek 30.

When will I find out if I’ve qualified?

Results from the qualifying round will be published a couple of days before the GW30 deadline.

When are the fixtures released?

The fixture list for each round will be published a day or two before each deadline.

Is there a prize?

Fantasy Football Scout is providing the following prizes:

  • Winner – £150 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 Amazon Voucher

The Winner will also gain passage to the Fantasy Football Scout Hall of Fame and seal qualification for all free Cup Competitions in forthcoming seasons.

I just always thought that Kolarov as captain could be an option that I would turn to in a moment of crisis, and Wigan at home is the only fixture where that's really an option.

After forgetting to do my two free transfers last week, I still somehow managed to move to the top of my minnileague (thankyou Ashley Young, only about 10 points between top 3 though. I still ahve Fabregas and RVP, pretty certain I will make the standard Fabs-Nasri, but less sure what to do up front. Al rivals have Tevez, so the standard boring move would be to cover that, but I abhor copying rivals teams (I really want to rub their noses in it), and of course having citeh players is an anathema to me. So now we have Zigic, Martens, Beckford and Saha with a double, but I really don't see much value in them, and would want rid after one week. Torres looked sharp, if mainly ineffective, agaisnt united and hs excellent fixtures (mostly), then of course there is the threat of Drogba, but I feel Torres still has the more secure spot (about 50 million quids worht of security). Just about sold on Torres, though I see the obvious risks, anyone got a compelling argument to talk me out of it.

I dont know about compelling but i just cant advocate paying so much for a player who is so out of form. You may aswell get zigic and just have him as a solid sub beyond the double instead of selling. Birmingham potentially have another double in the near future and have generally decent fixtures.

REALLY REALLY need feedback on this one dudes (already got RBJ's opinion yesterday but he got more out of it than me)

    MY crocked team now:

    foster begovic

    simpson baines huth KELLY VIDIC

    nani nzogbia VDV ADAM FABS

    berbatov RVP CAMPBELL

As you can see, there are 7 red squares polluting my previously decent squad

    2 options

    A. use my free transfer and take a 4 point hit
    kelly > RJohnson/coleman
    fabs > osman/arteta/nasri
    rvp > Tevez
    campbell > zigic/saha ( 8 pointer )

    OR...

    B. use my wildcard despite missing all price rises and falls to create this team:

    foster begovic

    KOLAROV huth LUIZ baines

NASRI OSMAN vdv nani adam(A YOUNG)

    TEVEZ SUAREZ(CARROLL) ZIGIC

(keeping adam and vdv is a preference and can only squeeze in ayoung for adam if carroll comes in for suarez)

WC for GW33 was my preference but I've dropped to second in my league for the first time all season and my hand is forced

It's a lot to read I know but somebody talk me out of using my wildcard

jokes apart, i reckon option A. 4 pointer looks essential, and the extra 4 point hit is a gamble. keep your wildcard

        thanks chief
        that's my gut feeling too
only really care about winning my league and my rival is only 10 points clear of me

you reckon osman over arteta and nasri?

        and rjohnson over coleman?

Already done Kelly -> Baines on free transfer.

But to field 11, I have to take a 8 pt hit
    Cahil -> Nasri
RVP -> Saha (Can't do this until I remove Cahil, as I have 3 EVE)

    Appreciate feedback please

Never taken a 8 pt hit before (past 3 years), but these are unusual times. My run of 5 consecutive green arrow will come to end, and the desire to get in top 1000 broken. Take hits or not ?

yeah, but don't want to waste transfer to throw out Ferguson and get in Zigic. Will bench Ferguson. Will go with Cahil -> nasri and RVP -> Saha

Thought about Cahil -> Arteta, but would still prefer to have playing 11. Not good to field just 10

This will be a week of points hits for those near the top, so I think you can get away with a loss of 8 and still be sitting pretty.

Thanks EPL Lover. Think it is more important to be able to field 11 player. So pts hit is inevitable.

Wish I had your score/ranking, but I don't understand your hesitation to take a points hit? Kelly, Cahill, RVP will not score this week. Nothing, nada, zero. Your gambling 8 points. Assuming all of your choices start, play 60 minutes, and don't get carded, you are assured of 4 points for Baines, 2 for Nasri, and for for Zigic/Saha. That's 8 points, so at worse, you break even, and you now have three chances to score, and look one week ahead. Once again, Kelly, Cahill, and RVP offer zero return, and Baines, Nasri, Zigic/Saha each will have another opportunity to add to your total. It should be a no brainer, get over your "no hits in three years" and play the game.

Yes, going for it. Thanks for clearing my clouded mind. And remember the points hit benefits in future games as well. Will start this week -8, but that is okay as Arsenal and EVE has good fixtures next few weeks.
Some analysis, which I agree with

        Points HIT
you got the whole season (or until your next WC) to make up the 4pts… its not just the following GW that counts… budget also plays in. its not a simple calculation
        If:
(average points gain per transfer) x (number of weeks until WC or end of season) > 4
        you win.
The limiting factor is the number of “good” transfers you can make each week, which is why 4 pt hits generally pay off better than 12 pters.

I'll agree with all that's been said, I would just be wary of confidence in Baines. Everton have been shaky lately, and without Fellaini and Cahill they are more vulnerable down the middle. I think he's deffo capable of offensive returns, I honestly just can't see Everton keeping a cleanie. I think Chelsea are more assured of one...but that's also my fan bias. Without Adam Blackpool look out of sorts, and now with DJ Campbell out...David Luiz is a baller...just saying

Thanks Mikey, I agree with you. Just 2 CS in last 18 games. But fixtures are tempting and there is no better choice than Baines. All relative comparison. Lets hope he gets offensive pts

I think I'm doing Nasri. If Arsenal are going to win, he's got to be influencial. Earned 3 bonus vs Sunderland earlier this season, and he's proven he can score goals this season. Arteta too inconsistent, Lamps too expensive imo...

Exactly. If last week you had 2 free transfers with only 7 players, you could do 4 transfers at zero cost. 8 points for almost min. 4x2 replacing 0. In my case needed 3 to get 11 and 18+5+0-4>0. This week 2 DGW: 4+4-4=2+2 Still must make best choices.

Who you captain and who you bench are critical. My maximum possible from team selection would be 1833. Probably 40% of managers could be first if they knew exactly who to captain and who to bench.

My captain selection has been sh*t. When I last ran that script, it gave me 38%. And I have not heard anyone out here under 40%. With perfect captain, I would be close to the summit. Life is full of choice and one needs to be lucky to get them all right. and not to forget, law of averages catches up sometime
