Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he expects both Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri to be Arsenal players next season. Speaking at a press conference this morning prior to Arsenal’s pre-season tour of Malaysia, the Gunners boss attempted to kill speculation that both players would be departing following weeks of rumour surrounding their futures.
Wenger also confirmed the signing of Lille striker Gervinho and revealed that he had no plans to strengthen at left-back following the departure of Gael Clicy to Man City.
The news will come as a hugely significant development for Fantasy Managers who now look set to re-consider both Fabregas and Nasri with just over a month remaining before the season kick-off.
Despite a difficult initial run, Arsenal have a very favourable first half to the season and their Fantasy assets are set to attract plenty of early interest as a result. With doubts surrounding the futures of Fabregas and Nasri, Robin Van Persie had emerged as the key target – today’s comments from Wenger may well change matters.
As for the left-back situation, Wenger has suggested that he will look to hand the promising Kieran Gibbs his opportunity following several seasons in the shadow of Clichy. While persistent injury is always a concern for Gibbs, he will be another name in the Gunners squad being monitored for Fantasy potential next term. Thomas Vermaelen is another possibility for the role however, he could be shifted to full-back if Wenger can seal the capture of one of his reported transfer targets in central defence.
Gervinho represents Wenger’s first major capture of the pre-season; the Ivorian remains in London embarking on his own training regime but will be united with his new team-mates when Arsenal return from their tour. We will of course bring you a full Scout Report on the player very soon.
