Back for a new season, with “sailing fan” Granville now woken from his Olympic dream, we return for another podcast after a three-month hiatus.

While some of the regulars are shelved this week, we talk over the Sky Sports Game, welcome new Fantasy Football double act “Fenners & Merse” and start the clear up after Robin Van Persie kicked over the applecart.

The episode is underpinned by a new concept – the idea that Granville and I can join forces and actually be effective. The premise is we pick a ScoutCast XI and cross our beams to co-manage it over the season, arguing the toss in every ScoutCast episode on transfers and substitutions. The aim is harmony and a united success. It seems unlikely to end that way.

Oh, and there are actually two of my “jokes” that Granville misses in this episode – see if you can make out the second. I swear he was dreaming of gold medals in the sailing.

Listen in on the squad selection via this link.

Alternatively, stream it down your pipe using the player below…

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Although Al Habsi is a svae machine i don't like his chances of clean sheets.

Vertonghen may be too open to rotation for his price, although i think he could be a great flp player.

Not a fan of Demel and McAnuff (not sure who he is tbh).

      Otherwise I like the rest.

Projections show that Al Habsi will accumulate more points than those who'll keep more clean sheets.
McAnuff is a punt. He's a winger for Reading and could cause problems, or just be absolute shit. 😀

Fair enough on the punt, may as well take it for gw 1 at least.

    GK: krul, fed
DEF: cuellar, demel, terry, a Williams, hangeland

    ATT: tevez, pog, torres

    1) terry>vidic
    2) Torres>aguero
    3) mata>Valencia

Not sure Allen will be any good FPL wise. Passes don't mean much (unless it's the Sky game).

Not a fan of Pog, think he will be tricky to get rid of, and i don't see reading scoring big, plus he is not there main/only forward as they seem to favour a 4-4-2, thereby reducing his output.

      So I'd suggest 4 for gw1 with 1 and 3 afterwards.

Otherwise, as you mentioned, similar to mine 🙂

I am going to succum to insecurity after a lot of tinkering and no RMTing, so here it goes,

    RMT please:

    Fed (DDG)
Williams / Zabaleta / Hangeland (Cuellar / Clyne)
Bale / Guthrie / Ramires / Valencia (Nzog)
    Graham / Tevez / Torres

    3.5m in the bank.

I do not plan on any specific transfers, as I'd rather not commit myself to that now. But the 3.5 can facilitate upgrades to Kun / RVP / Roon or other mids that i think may get in a good season ( Cazorla / Gerrard ) or even defensive upgrades although I prefer the 1 big hitter 2x2 rotating cheapies, although i think Hangeland and Williams will play more often than not.

OK, guilty. After going to bed I just got up again to look at my team. Officially addicted.

I've spread the cash a bit more to get as many nailed on players as possible as I cannot be bothered worrying about lineups after last season. Basically trying to get as many pivotal players in one team as possible. I think I can live with the following:

    Federici/De Gea
    Ivanovic Zabaleta Hughes/Cuellar/Clyne
    Bale Gerrard Ramires N'Zogbia Marveaux
Torres (+2m for Rooney) Tevez Graham

PS have checked all preseason fixtures for the players involved. Cuellar started in all but one including the recent ones, Hughes has a good starting record too. N'Zogbia started in all but one I think, played one in the hole and one as striker.

Looks like the majority of people will have the same score after gw1 🙂

Here's mine if you care to rate it...
    Vorm (Jussi)
    Vertonghen, Hangeland, ShawX (Barnett, Clyne)
    Bale, Yaya, Hazard, Kagawa (Britton)
    Tevez, Torres, Ruiz

Majority of people on here maybe. You forget the masses.

I think Jussi is the keeper most in danger of losing his place, he did last season, so I don't like him.

ShawX may work out if Stoke can produce the clean sheets they threaten to.

Barnett i think will drop horribly in price as norwich begin to crumble from having a poor team. Brutal but honest.

I think Yaya will return to defensive duties for most of the begining of the season at least, limiting his FPL value.

Kagawa may not work out, it really depends on Fergie's tactics. I honestly hope he does though. (united fan)

Britton is a poor fpl prospect IMO, but he will be bench fodder i see, i would go for a cheaper alternative for that position though.

Ruiz will likely fail to deliver the sort of returns that would justify his inclusion over the likes over graham/Petric IMO. I think he plays to deep most of the time.

I do like how strong your midfield 4 is though.

too much on defense for my liking, i know it's tempting as there are so few sure attacking options, but attacking players do get more points over the course of a season after all. gutierrez is interesting... no idea where he'll be playing ATM :s i hope you have a plan in place for switching torres out after GW1 too 😉

I've spent far too long tonight tinkering with my team, finally come up with something that I'm reasonably happy with:

    Cech (Jaaskelainen)

Zabaleta - Hangeland - Demel - Koscielny (Kaboul)

Pienaar - Santi Cazorla - Mata (McClean - Michu)

    Graham - Tevez - Torres (c)

Nothing in the bank, planning on doing Mata to Bale for GW 2.

What do you guys think? Not enough heavy hitters?

I don't mind having Michu as my first sub if Koscielny doesn't play GW1.

I'll transfer out Kaboul and bringing in a good value cheap defender after a couple of weeks if needs be.

The only striker who's more expensive than Torres that I'd quite like in my team is Aguero, I'm not even tempted by RVP/ Rooney, they're both way overpriced. If Torres fails I can always downgrade to Bent/ Jelavic/ Adebayor/ Podolski/ Giroud.

Ok. Let's see what the DZers think of this.

    a. Aguero + N'Zogbia
    b. Tevez + Cazorla
    c. Tevez + Walcott
    d. Tevez + Nasri
    e. Tevez + Yaya

    Opinions, please?

          my assessments:
          a) reliable big hitter plus a proven fpl success 90% nailed on under an attacking manager
          b) good but arsenal have crappy fixtures and when wilshere/rosicky come back (if you're thinking that far ahead) might not play every game)
          c) ditto.
          d) nasri is prob competing for one spot with silva if this 3-4-1-2 goes ahead
          e) toure will generally be playing deeper than he did for most of pre-season, but is still a pretty safe bet for the price. tevez will be amazing if he plays.

not sure dempsey is fit (or staying), not sure baines is a good idea for GW1 vs. man utd when you could have a chelsea player playing two games, and shawcross has the worst fixtures known to man. otherwise i really like this team though.

Thanks AFLICKERING, I have he same concern about Dempsey and have Gerrard in the back of my mind (but tough fixtures). Baines and Shawcross are long term and, after GW1, although notoriously slow to start, have some good fixtures. Already have 3 Chelsea players. Any suggestions to consider?
