Monitor – Gareth Bale

Filed under: Members - Posted by: Mark

With Eden Hazard flourishing and attracting huge Fantasy investment, Tottenham’s Gareth Bale is already in danger of becoming a forgotten man just a couple of Gameweeks into the season. The Welshman returned double figures for both goals and assists last term and began the season hotly tipped to contest the top position in the midfield rankings. However, already we’re seeing Fantasy managers lose faith, no doubt shifting allegiance to Chelsea’s Belgian.

The arrival of Andre Villas-Boas has, to this point, failed to spark Spurs and Bale has epitomised their slow start to the season. With a hefty price tag around his neck, it’s clear that Fantasy managers cannot sit still on an ailing heavy-hitter but are the doubters right to shed Bale and move on?

In this latest article for members, we examine Bale’s numbers so far, assessing the averages gathered to this point in comparison to last season’s data in attempt to assess how the arrival of Villas-Boas has affected his form and his potential to deliver Fantasy returns.

  1. How essential is Hazard people?
    I currently have a front 8 of

    yaya bale michu pienaar noble
    rvp tevez graham

I am really struggling to see who to drop for hazard if Bale performs well saturday. This coupled with the fact i want HBA too leave me confused. Is it worth getting rid of toure for either of those more explosive players even though he has started so well?

Don't want to totally miss the boat on Hazard but struggling to accomodate him with all the idiots pushing his price up when he has no game this week! Anyone else in the same boat?

    1. Yes, I'm in the same position, I'd have to get rid of Bale or downgrade elsewhere in order to do Kagawa -> Hazard. At the moment, I'm holding back. If Bale explodes then I'll happily go without Hazard, if he doesn't perform with Spurs' kind run of fixtures then I'll have to rethink and maybe get Hazard in at an inflated price. Chelsea have tough games coming up in a few weeks though.

      1. ...i've swooped him up on the fly for GW3 against Norwich, surely he'll find the net. now i'm not a big fan of the footy sport, but i am gradually picking up the game and from what i've seen in the 1st few matches for Spurs, i didn't really see anyone connect with his assists, so i'm hoping for a brace/assists/bonus this wkend...

    2. I'm in the exact position, really can't see anything else for me cept waiting and seeing how Bale performs.

    3. I dropped Bale for Dembele. There's a 3.5m difference in price between the two and with VDV gone Dembele should drop into his role and provide good returns. This freed enough cash to upgrade a mid range mid-fielder (in my case N'Zogbia) to Hazard.

    1. Unusually quiet transfer window for QPR

    2. Though it took them a while to get rolling, QPR strike me as the budget side to watch in a few weeks (for them, Week 6). Cesar looks to be an impact player from the start and if his price comes in at 4.5, he's worth grabbing as a budget keeper. Some of these other pickups, including Granero, could make a splash and be tremendous differential players if given the minutes. At QPR, they just might be.

    Gone for it.

    Friedel - S Taylor - Vermalen - Williams - Bale - Michu - Pienaar - Nolan - V.Persie - Tevez - Petric.

My team for next week, but taken a 12 point hit (lol).

Hope its not too big a hit and hopefully my team can make up for it.

  3. should i drop VDV for kags.. and take a -4 hit? currently sitting in 2nd position in my league.. not sure if its worth the hit.
