A game of goals and controversy at Goodison Park brings Gameweek 4 to a conclusion. Here’s the Stock Check from the tonight’s tumultuous 2-2 stalemate…

On the Up

Leighton Baines
We could hardly have pushed the virtues of Baines any harder over the international break and the Everton left-back didn’t take long to demonstrate why. Linking superbly with Steven Pienaar, Baines covered himself in glory with a fine strike to cap another superb display.

Steven Pienaar
Two assists from the South African demonstrated his worth and effectiveness down the Everton left with Baines. Pienaar also threaded the pass for Victor Anichebe’s strike and was only denied further returns by the assistant’s flag. Significantly, despite strong returns from Marouanne Fellaini in the opening games, bonus for Pienaar would take him above the Belgian in the Fantasy Premier League rankings.

Demba Ba
The evening began with the Senegal striker on the timber, only for him to be introduced to turn the game in the second half. A rollercoaster evening for his 16% ownership that ended in confirmation that Ba is the man in form in the Newcastle frontline.

Going Down

Nikaca Jelavic
The Croatian crashed into a post early on and finally relented to the blow just before the break after suffering further knocks. Everton badly missed his influence in the second-half and David Moyes and Jelavic’s Fantasy owners will desperately hoping that he has escaped with a minor setback. We await the prognosis.

Papiss Cisse
Selected ahead of Ba to lead the line, Cisse was again overshadowed by his compatriot. His Fantasy owners will doubtless be twitching with frustration and mystified as to how Cisse’s strike rate has diminished so markedly given last season’s electric form.

I’m not because I have Barfa (NOR) but I don’t think he’s a bad option at all. He’s hit double figures in 75% of his premier league games!

Sold Bale last week at 9.5 (now 9.3) and bought Hazard at 9.9 (now 10.3). Missed Bale’s haul but gained 0.6 in value (or 0.3 in selling price).

Am I crazy if I do Fellaini –> Bale using my FT this week (vs QPR)?

    Hi folks,

Had to use my WC this week. What do you think?? Bit concerned about lack of reserve keeper, but…

    Jaaskelainen (Rudd)
    Baines, Rafael, Gibbs (Reid, Clyne)
    Fellaini, Hazard, Toure, Michu (Sterling)
    Tevez, Berbatov, Van Persie

      Big Mac 24 says:

I think if you have a keeper like Jaaskelainen who’ll play every game, and have to make plenty of saves, there’s no need to worry about a reserve keeper in my eyes. If your keeper averages 4 over the season, you have to be happy no, especially if he’s very cheap like Jaaski. Pissed me off having De Gea who didn’t play the last 2 games, so I have Jaaski now too with no backup

    Big Mac 24 says:

    Views on my team please!

    Jaaskelainen
    Cole A Williams A Vertonghen
    Hazard (C) Lampard Michu Sterling
    Berbatov Tevez Van Persie

    Davies (Swa)
    Jenkinson
    Taylor (Wham)

Put Sterling in as 4th midfielder as I don’t think Swansea, Arsenal will get clean sheets, and not sure if Matt Taylor will play with Jarvis knocking on the door.

“I love to attack and I love to go up front...It is a little more difficult than when you are playing centre-back. If you play the way that I want to play, I think my influence is better as a left-back. For the team, it is best that I play as a centre-back. I like to bring the ball out. You need to move the game quickly, and that is one of my qualities as well.”

Jan Vertonghen outlines what he feels is his best position for Andre Villas-Boas
