Mata Concern for Chelsea

Filed under: Injury News - Posted by: Mark

Roberto Di Matteo has left Fantasy managers sweating ahead of Chelsea’s game with Swansea tomorrow after admitting Juan Mata is “very doubtful” to make the Liberty trip. The Spaniard played the full 120 minutes of his side’s 5-4 extra time Capital One Cup win over United on Wednesday evening but may be set to miss out this weekend.

With a stunning free-kick against United in the Premier League on Sunday, Mata has now returned 54 points in his past five appearances. A series of sensational displays have seen him transferred in by over 98,000 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers this week and with over 140,000 picking him up prior to last week’s match with United, his price has now risen by 0.5 since the end of Gameweek 8.

Bearing in mind Di Matteo’s side have a crucial Champions League game with Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, Mata’s owners will be a little apprehensive as the Blues boss looks to keep his key men fit for the midweek Stamford Bridge showdown. Undoubtedly, it’s a real boost for those who chose to hold onto Eden Hazard in spite of Mata’s rising price – the Belgian played just 65 minutes against Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and will surely be more crucial than ever, if Mata does indeed fail to make it.

  1. My team for the weekend. Is it worth taking a hit on for anyone? on the basis that I am probably going to have to play Fonte.

    Baines - Rafael - McCartney

    Noble - Bale - Pienaar - Mata

    Berbatov - RVP - Ba

    McCartney Sterling Clyne Wilson

    1. My gut tells me you should play Sterling over Noble this week. I've been listening to my gut all season and I'm 55th in the overall rankings, so it may be worth a listen ;)

        1. I'd want to play Sterling this week too but I'm not 55th in the world! Will have to now with Mata out.

  3. Don't trust RDM, he is a liar. He said that Mata and Mikel will not play versus MU in Capital One Cup, but both players played from starting.

  7. should i play mata
    mata -> bale (-4)
    or start sterling

Im thinking just start sterling and hope he doesn't keep missing like heskey!!

    • 2 years, 3 months ago
    1. Depends on your long term plans. If you just want to bring Mata right back in, play Sterling. If you want to stick with Bale for a while, make the swap.

      • 2 years, 3 months ago
  8. Got rid of Hazard to Mata this week - to allow Nolan to Oscar next Week or Berb to Ba

    Thought I was being clever......What a Boob

I have S. Taylor, but he did not play last week. I have Rafael, Sagna, and two cheap defenders (McCartney & Gorkss) What should I do?

    a. Keep S. Taylor (and save FT)

    c. S. Taylor > Simpson

Anyone else I should consider? Thanks.
