Moneyball – Jason Puncheon

Filed under: Members - Posted by: Chris Glover

This series has generally been engaged in looking for the “next prospect”, the unheralded and the unfashionable. This week, we’re going to go in a slightly different direction and re-examine someone who was first mentioned in these pages back in Gameweek 6, after which he was promptly benched to seemingly slip back into obscurity. As last weekend’s performance at QPR demonstrated, however, the underlying potential of Jason Puncheon was never in doubt: pitch-time looks to be the key factor in his prosperity as a Fantasy asset.

Was originally planning on playing HBA along with Cazorla, Michu and Pienaar this week. I still have Kightly, but since his price is staying pretty steady I’ll afford to keep him at least one more GW before he starts falling in price.

Want to get in both a Sunderland and a Southampton midfielder at some point soon, so that’s my other alternative. Pienaar and Kightly will both soon be sacrificed for these transfers if I do the HBA-> Valencia transfer.

Need Ivanovic at CB, because Cahill is out of form. Piazon deserves a chance too. I hate the way we never give our youngsters a fair chance, and he’s better than Oscar imo

I’d even wonder about Valencia moving backwards to RB to cover for him, particularly given Val’s not beating too many defenders. But there’s no one else right now to cover Val at RW and the absence of Kagawa means they can’t switch formation naturally.

Given everyone appears to be feeling punty, what was your last punt that came off?

Mine was Suarez GW6 hattrick and assist v Norwich.
I sold him two GWs later and missed out on 37 points since then.

    And numerous failed punts.

Same one for me. My most recent punt that did NOT come off was Mata to Valencia for a hit when Mata was ruled out after Capital One and MUN were playing a wounded Arsenal. Valencia got 3 while Gorkss, who would have played had I left it, scored 11 on the bench.

isacki - losing makes winning sweeter says:

Usually works out like that, someone else you could have played ends up scoring more than the replacement. I thought I’d narrowly profited from an 8 point hit for GW9 involving Rangel, Michu & Suarez > Richards, Mata and Berb but then Cuellar went and got a CS on my bench.

      Edwardo T. Durkan says:

      This season
Best punt – Jelavic GW6, got 16 points just back from injury
Worst – Not really a ‘punt’ per say, but captained Cazorla 2 GWs in a row, and he got 2 points in each game :)

I captained Adebayor in a game last season where he go 2goals and 3assists. That massive points haul is why I think I came second in the GW4 global league last season

Yeah nice one alright, to finish 80k starting GW4 is commendable and makes you wonder what you could have done if you’d gone from the start.

        Any recommendations this week?

Ya, shame it only shows the overall rank. My only recommendation is RVP (C). That’s all you need ;) :D

“I love to attack and I love to go up front...It is a little more difficult than when you are playing centre-back. If you play the way that I want to play, I think my influence is better as a left-back. For the team, it is best that I play as a centre-back. I like to bring the ball out. You need to move the game quickly, and that is one of my qualities as well.”
