Martyniak Claims FPL Crown

Congratulations go to Matt Martyniak who, on a dramatic final day, claimed the Fantasy Premier League crown by just three points after the Gameweek 38 bonus points settled matters.

Matt, a veteran Fantasy Premier League manager, has competed in the game since the 2006/07 season and had previously recorded an impressive finish of 707th back in 2007/08. A recent arrival in the Scout community, he was just two points behind Kelvin Travers, another Scout league member, at the end of 90 minutes. However, it was the bonus points from Liverpool’s 1-0 win over QPR that proved decisive. Matt earned a total of five points via his Gameweek 38 signing, Philppe Coutinho, and left-back Jose Enrique which eventually saw him topple Kelvin at the summit.

That pairing ended the season topping our classic league with Evs finishing third and fifth overall and former leader, Julian Zipparo in fourth and sixth in the overall rankings.

Congratulations again to Matt and all our Scout League members who enjoyed such successful FPL campaigns and to all our FPL managers who helped to make the community so active, knowledgable and friendly.

THE ULTIMATE DEAD TEAM

I thought it would be fun to calculate the best possible GW1 team that would result in the highest possible rank up until this point. This is with no transfers made all season and the armband on Bale every week (note RVP as VC plays 6 fixtures as captain). Auto subs have also been factored in.

The best GW1 team possible up until this point is as follows

(JAASKELAINEN, 4.5m, 144pts)

(BAINES, 7m, 177pts), (MERTESACKER, 5.0m, 135pts), (O’BRIEN, 4.0, 123pts)

(BALE, 9.5m, 249pts C), (MATA, 9.5m, 212pts), (MICHU, 6.5m, 190pts), (FELLAINI, 6.5m, 167pts)

(RVP, 13.0m, 262pts VC), (SUAREZ, 9.5m, 212pts), (LAMBERT, 6.0m, 187pts)

Auto Subs:
1. SNODGRASS 6.0 (20 games 108pts)
2. BASSONG 4.5 (14 games 41pts)
3. MARTIN 4.5 (9 games 37pts)
4. BORUC 4.0 (2 games 13pts)

Value: 100m
Points: 2,561pts (including double Bale points as captain, and RVP’s 6 fixtures as VC)
Rank: 1st in the world by a long way.

*Disclaimer* There are probably a multitude of squads out there that could still come first in FPL. By my calculations this is the best possible GW1 squad with autosubs included. If there are any mathematicians out there feel free to try and come up with a better squad.

I find it interesting that it was possible to do nothing to your team and still come 1st in the world comfortably. Surprisingly this side is a solid GW1 team as well, with many GW1 FFS bandwagons in amongst it. The intension of this side is to make no transfers during the season; otherwise it would normally be loaded with DGW players from Chelsea and Reading. I guess what this piece of analysis shows is there could still be a good number of dead teams left in the top 10K.

  Shows that probably 300000 dead teams from the start did not get this combination. So the odds must be 20 million to 1 (just a wild guess). Combination of the right 14 players among a universe of 200 players. (Boruc is outside the fold, the rest were starters or played in Game 1. RVP was a given.) ... anyway a rough guess, I don't do math.

  The only problem with this team is the DGW in the 1st week meaning it would be even less likely. Same thing goes next season. Great piece of work, sounds correct to me. Snodgrass is the major factor.

  I did the same team, but got 2559 points overall.
  
  Difference was I had Martin only playing 5 GWs, 30 pts
  Bassong 15 GWs, 46 points
  
  Bassong plays GWs: 2,7,8,9,16,17,19,20,21,22,27,29,31,32,33
  Martin plays GWs: 6 (Bassong didn't play this GW), 8, 19, 20, 29 - he should have come off bench for GW17 but didn't play.

    Have a look at T.I's year (final rank 13) - absolutely incredible! Never out of the top 1000 and top 100 for the last 33 weeks, more than half of those weeks in the top 10 including reaching #1. He should take a screen shot of his GW history and get it framed! Doubt many others have had a year ranked that high from start to finish. Well done T.I if you see this!

I love finishing the season strong. 7 green arrows in the last 8 GW's, finishing with my best ever rank at the end of a GW and won my first league against FFS regulars in the NZ ICC league. Very pleased with how the season has gone.

To counter the good results... still spewing about my 31pts to finish the season. Go from likely my best season finish (nothing special - 20k) to my worst. Only positive point was I was far enough ahead in my work leagues to just scrape through.

But... thanks to all the posters who's discussions (& occasional help) assisted me during the season.

Just logged back onto FPL after a "disappointing" and getting myself to accept my fate of losing my H2H match and even sending heartfelt Congratulations! to my opponent!

Imagine my surprise when I logged in to see I won by 1 point!!! He had taken a -4 and I was leading by 3 pre-baps. He had Mata and Coutinho and I assumed they would get at least 5 baps between them (6 at the most) meaning he would easily overturn my slim margin. I thought I needed something/anything from RvP, Kone and Lamps (which was highly unlikely) to get a draw and ove into a tiebreaker.

I totally forgot about Enrique who gave me the victory! Bragging rights restored for the summer!

Would just like to say thanks to everyone that's helped me on FFS, finished 146K not a great score around here but after only joining as a member in jan when i was around 750k i'll take it, it is also a personal best. Logged on and got surprised with 3pts baps of Enrique. A good FPL gift for last gameweek. 😎

After the team had been struggled to break 10k wall over the season, I finally made it in the last week and finish in top 10k as hope. The target was actually top 1k but some point hits backfired rather than improved the points. Plan to manage for less hits next year.

    A counterpoint to that is that I kept tabs on Mark and Chris Mcgurn (among others) when we were all sub 50 k around week 20.
    Mark finished top 3k, and Mcgurn top1k. Me? Not so much. Played too many differentials as well as other errors.wrong time

Was leading my ML since December and started yest with 17 points ahead, everyone on the community said I should win BUT

played Davies instead of Sagna, and brought in Michu instead of Coutinho just to "copy" ML chaser in order to reduce risk. 🙁 another lesson learned, be brave to try something different and follow your own guts & gameplan.

All in all it has been a pretty successful year for me. Been playing FPL for ages and i usually quit in Feb/March when my MLs were then out of reach. Found this site earlier in the season and you guys were very helpful with your thoughts and recommendations as i finish top in my MLs and get my best OR (3K).

Was a ok ok season ..finished in 15k , which could easily have been a top 10K finish had i not transfered out lukaku >ade and changed capt from bale > stud in last 5 minutes before the transfer deadline 🙁 🙁
