In Development – HomeCrowd – Update & Preview

HomeCrowd, the new comment system for Fantasy Football Scout, is due to launch in the next few days following a final test by our newly recruited team of moderators.

We have a few minor bugs to fix this week and are looking to launch either Wednesday or Thursday. This is subject to change – if we fail to make Thursday, we will likely slip over to Monday of the following week.

In preparation, a new Community Guide section has now been written and is available to read here. This outlines how you can get the best out of the new functions HomeCrowd has to offer in addition to re-iterating the rules regarding comment posting.

In addition, so that you can get an early view of HomeCrowd, we’ve created a preview movie below, outlining the features that will be available when we go live.

Our moderation team is still in training, limbering up and leafing through the community guidelines and moderator’s guide that we’re currently piecing together.

We are delighted to announce that our initial moderating team is: Spencer, Ryan, In Like Flynn, Gaz Downright, Evs, Green Windmill, Tinkerman, In Tommy We Trust, Applebonkers and TorresMagic.

All are well respected members of the community, who since being appointed have already provided sterling work behind the scenes in helping to launch HomeCrowd and ensuring its success.

How did Mario Gomez go to Napoli? 75 goals in 115 games and dumped by Munchen. Why did nobody in the prem get him?

What app/tool would people most like to see available next season, I'm going to be bored this summer so may look to write something for the start of next season.

How about an app that tries to tell you what transfer a rival has made?

Any other suggestions? (Waits for the auto captain app suggestion)

Just ask TM, he'll tell you your rival's transfers.

I get quite obsessive on matchdays about how well my rivals are doing while the games are being played. Every time a goal is scored I start diving into their live scores to see how each is doing.

I'd really like something that would show me the ongoing scores of my rivals before the ML tables are updated.

I like the sound of that, something to ponder as I do exactly the same.

Razza's Greasemonkey script does that. Most of its functionality failed when they made some tweaks to the FPL website, but the live ML score updates was still working at the end of the season.

I'd like to start off by saying this is just my opinion, none are facts or anything, so don't attack me :P.

I think homecrowd is a bad idea. Why?
    - The reputation means that whoever posts lineups first will get loads of rep (*cough* Demi) for something that, in all honesty, is quite unworthy. Reputation should be given for actual contribution, not providing a lineup 10 seconds earlier than people can actually get if they really wanted to. I feel this system will be poorly handled by the community, including myself possibly.

    - Reputation invites popularity contests. While it's good for the 😎 people at the top, those that don't have any/many are left to have comments that aren't seen as much as the high rep people. This feature just makes it even more difficult for lower people, as, in essence, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. High rep members get their comments seen easier, leading to more rep. Lower comments will stay at the bottom. Obviously it could easily turn out to be fine, but it's still a possibility.

    - What's wrong with the current system? Seriously, i don't see a problem. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

I would like to say this isn't a complaint, just thoughts I'd like to share. I support the change as much as any in terms of willing to give it a go, and having not been part of the testing perhaps my views aren't educated enough to hold true value.
