The Community Round Up

In our latest community round up we look back at the hottest topics over the last week, and find that community members are still in a spin over rotation issues. We also discover which members of the community are ‘dullards’ or ‘mavericks’ and take a look at the community leagues that are currently taking over this summer.

As always, those running community tournaments are urged to email me ahead of the new season at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk for inclusion in forthcoming community round-up articles.

The Hottest Topics

The three promoted Premier League sides of Hull, Crystal Palace and Cardiff are likely to produce some budget gems over the course of the 2013/14 season. Thankfully Demi was on hand this week to run the rule over these promoted team’s set piece takers, who may well tempt investment.

Rotation spreadsheets continue to dominate discussion after the Premier League fixture computer did its thing. Among the best rotation posts were Portsmouth Bubblejet‘s look at home and away rotating pairs over the entire season and Yes the Sess!‘s post about the best budget goalkeeping rotation pairs.

Our own In Tommy We Trust has also been looking at three-way and incredibly five- way rotation options. Ubers, the nickname for those who favour an uber cheap defence, have clearly been in their element this week.

Elsewhere the “deadzone”, the name given to the period between midnight and 8am when many of our overseas community members join the discussion, continues to show the daylight dwellers, tucked up in bed, what they are missing out on. Among the most thought provoking discussions in the wee small hours was Triggerlips’s look at what makes a great FPL player and why is it that Mark always seems to beat Granville?

Its been six years since Jose Mourinho last managed in the Premier League, which has prompted Mathmo to take a look at his recent history with Real Madrid in terms of attacking and defensive strategies. This proved to be a fascinating insight into how Chelsea could be set to play next season.

In addition, Teddy has also been helping the community out by searching out next season’s most attacking defenders .

If you’re new to Fantasy Football, Fantasy Premier League or just faced with introducing some novices to your mini-league, you will surely be interested in In Tommy We Trust’s epic post that provided a beginners guide, offering the key strategies for success for newcomers and some timely reminders for more experienced managers.

Lanley Staurel’s research into how last season’s top FPL managers spread their cash across the four positions was another hot topic that proved popular and offered valuable insight.

And finally, we asked in our daily hot topics which members of the community are “dullards”, who like to make safe choice, which are the “mavericks” who take risks and which are “dullardinhos”, a phrase invented by Fantasy Football Scout’s suspension tightrope custodian Anorak to describe a dullard with a dash of flair. In a similar vein Lateriser12 asked whether gut instinct can be trusted?

Community Leagues

The FFS Uefa group’s transfer window simulation reached its Round 2 stage this week with community members organised into Premier League club themed groups bidding for defenders. Manchester United, owned by Count of Monte Hristo emerged triumphant with the acquisition of big name players Thiago Silva and Sergi Ramos. Eboue and Doosra’s management of West Ham continue to focus on flair, with their signing of Eliaqum Mangala taking their opponents by surprise. Round 3 bidding for midfielders has already begun and the deadline is this Saturday, June 29 at 2359 BST. For those looking to join the game, you can sign up here.

Conrad’s Confederation Cup Fantasy Football 2013 competition is edging towards its thrilling conclusion. Conrad has created the game himself and  explains that it is a stripped down version of typical Fantasy football games with 3-4-3 formation only. Ahead of tonight’s first semi-final MB10 is in the lead with 166 points, followed by Patrick Star on 162 points with Conrad back on 153.

one thing I learn fom last year:
do NOT ever plan transfer for your first GW team.

there will be so many surprise bandwagon, or obvious one that you missed that your plan will not be able to go ahead unless for a hit.

less season I remember my plan was to bring in Rooney GW2, but turned out Michu is needed, so I ended up ditching my plan

I was away so I got my brother to do Torres to Rooney as planned. I then got about 30 points in gw 2 and was left with an injured Rooney and aguero

Normally I'd agree completely, but the Chelsea DGW followed by fairly tricky fixtures complicates things.

In 2012, Spain v Italy Final euro, Spain using 4-6-0 formation 😮 no striker, Fabregas as a false 9. and that time Italy has some injury problem.

Do you think it will happen tonight? balotelli out, marchisio is in doubt.

      Xavi(c) for you. Very bold.

Surprised you have kept Bonucci all this time. That value needs put to good use.

yeah I'm stuck with bonucci, because there's another important transfer. but he's cheap, hope he starts.

        Nice score for you 😉

Yeah it wasn't bad. I was chopping and changing between Oscar/Paulinho and Fred/Hulk. Could have done really well if I stuck with my initial picks.

Hulk is terrible. 2 points in every game and my instincts said to get Fred cos he is a poacher. Bad management.

yeah, Fred is a player that underrated while Hulk is very overrated, that's why I go with the popular choice!
